Yea they should have made the usless Union Station a casino. They already have an airport downtown so i'm not sure how they could build a bigger one.

You should suggest that the city council add "move the airport" to next year's budget.

Yes!! And if they'd move the "K" downtown, that'd be a HUGE improvement too!!

Jesus, try flying into downtown airport...

there are freaking towers everywhere.. No way would airliners want to come in there...

Plus it would take 2-4 years for the FAA to build, fly and test approaches into downtown for CAT 2 and 3...

No way no how would that ever happen...

OK, then just move the K now, we can wait for MCI to relocate. But the K needs to move NOW!!! We need bars, where we can cry in our beers), closer than what the current K offers.

Harrahs is like 10 minutes from downtown, but yeah, I see your point. It would be 10 min closer to me too. I play poker about twice a month down there. Won my highest amount ever playing 1-2 no limit the other day of $1200. WHoo hoo.

Need casinos in Johnson County!!

Wasn't part of the original proposal, for the renovation of the K & Arrowhead, supposed to include bars and restaurants?

It's a dumbass idea ... Just think you could be laying there in your bed and hear the 12:15 flight to Denver take off.

Brilliant!

I live in San Antonio on the outer loop and I can't imagin what it's like down by the airport.

That shit would rattle your windows.

KC planners were brilliant to put it out there (and the stadiums where they are).

Why would you want the airport downtown? So planes can fly over people's houses all over the city? Dallas's airport is near downtown and half the suburbs have so many planes flying low overhead you can almost read the airline on the side.
I like KC's airport. I love flying out of there. You can get in and out so fast, you don't have to walk forever to your gate. It's about as hassle free as an airport can be.

Never been there, so my opinion is pointless.

Heh! When spending alot of time in Mesa, AZ we decided to go to Tempe and eat/drink at a restaurant next to the ASU campus. Well, the flight path that night into Phoenix was right over where we were dining. Not a good thing.

KCI was built up north for a couple reasons:

1) To spur growth in the northern annex. City of KC didn't want to get land locked like St. Louis is. They thought city would grow all the way up to KCI. It has some, but not as much as they anticipated.

2) The downtown airport didn't have runways to handle big jets. 747 and 757 jets are too big. Air Force One has landed there a few times, but it's hairy. You come in right over the top of downtown, and come in real low over heavily populated area. The runways are pretty short for the big modern jets. It was an accident waiting to happen, so the new place was built with lots of land around it. Also, KCI has plenty of room to expand, if that ever becomes necessary.

WTF would anyone want a major airport closer to town?

seclark

imo, kci is great. when given a choice between kci and lambert(st. louis), i'll take kci every time. so much easier to get in and out.

This. Sky Harbor cuts off the east side of Phoenix, sends out or lands a plane every 90 seconds, and is just a pain in the ass in general.

Downtown Airport = FAIL.

It's annoying, but the way they have it spreads the security load out so that the lines are rarely very long. I've always been able to get to the gate at MCI a hell of a lot faster than I do here at DIA.

It cracks me up every time I hear the idea of the airport being too far away, one of the main theories being taught in college was to build airports absolutely nowhere near anything. The reasons were pretty simple, once houses build up around an airport the airports always lose and have to divert flight paths to make the people happy, and you also end up with being locked in killing your ability to grow.

Yep. Denver's airport is about a 30-45 minute drive from downtown, and that's assuming traffic doesn't suck. It used to be closer to town, but then they moved it out in the middle of nowhere for that reason.
