You heard it here first; the first Medal of Honor will be awarded to a living Soldier. Word got around yesterday afternoon- and you should see some stories coming in the next few days. I cannot mention his name, but it is a member of my former unit the 173rd Airborne Brigade for actions in Afghanistan in 2007.

Long overdue in my opinion- and hopefully some heroic actions by other Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines get recognized in the manner which they merit. There are many, many MoHs that have been submitted but downgraded to Distinguished Service Crosses/Navy Crosses, or even Silver Stars.

Anyway- good news overall. Cheers~

It's difficult for me to believe that the people who recommended him for this award back in 2007 had that in mind.

You must mean the first from the Afghanistan or Iraq wars.
There have been living CMH winners from both world wars, Korea and Vietnam.
Still cool though and Id love to read the citation as Im sure the dude has stones that clang when he walks.

It's a shame that the story is more about that lame duck, Nobama.

Uh, maybe cause they don't actually know who the person is?

well, it is the first since Vietnam, but at least 100 have gone to living soldiers in the past.

You are correct. When I wrote that post it was an early morning- and coffee hadn't quite kicked in yet...But yes, I meant to say the first living Medal of Honor recipient for this era of conflict. :toast:

There is also a Special Forces NCO who has a strong possibility of receiving the award as well; his packet has passed through much of the approval process so far- but as I mentioned earlier, quite a few have gotten to this point and been downgraded.
