Really? At the time did you think they were headed to the NFL?

Pioli Zombie
09-20-2010, 07:27 PM
Time outs in the first half aren't important. The possibility of getting the ball back on 49er side of the field because of a wind influenced 20 yard punt is. Belichick and Payton are the only coaches smart enough to try that.

Buck
09-20-2010, 07:28 PM
Really? At the time did you think they were headed to the NFL?

I knew Reggie was. Alex Smith was not really that great in High School. He was much better in College. So for Reggie, yes. For Alex, no.

Reggie Bush was the best HS football player in San Diego history, maybe even California history.

Queso, it looks like all you have to do to stop the 9er's Offense is eliminate Frank Gore.

Priority #1 - Stop the run
Priority #2 - Cover the flats
Priority #3 - Cover VG
Priority #4 - Cover quick recievers

P1- Will Tjack be back? Hopefully. Also, I am confident that Berry's help and DJ's speed will help stop Gore at the line, or shortly thereafter.

P2 - Again, DJ and Berry are proving themselves to be sure tacklers and this should help in these situations. Flowers will blow up those bubble screens too.

P3 - Have a LB stick to his ass like glue.

P4 - Flowers. Carr. And Alex smith passing.

I have no idea why you would think this. Your entire foot must touch down in bounds if your entire foot hits the ground.

Perhaps you are thinking about when a player tip-toes to make a catch, but in those instances, his heel never hits the ground and his foot comes back up. If his heel hit the ground though, that would count.

Yes, but again, if his heel came down before he lifted his foot that the toe touched down on, then that heel would count. So, if the heel landed out of bounds, then it's out of bounds.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if the Chiefs don't actually match up extremely well against the Niners.

SF needs to execute about 12 successful times to score a TD as they operate an offense that makes ours look positively Coryellian. The Chiefs are far more vulnerable to big-play offenses, IMO.

Now, that's not to say KC is gonna walk in this one, I think SF is more talented than KC is. However, I don't think it's as easy a win as I thought it would be a few weeks ago.

Dorsey will have to play the game of his life (Gore hits those edges in a hurry, doesn't he), but this isn't like playing Indy or Houston. I think we can hang with them and hope for a big run from Charles or a big play on defense/STs.

The Chiefs give up big plays to everyone, like a hooker on crack.

I understand why they do it for safety reasons but it is so hard for a defensive player to play a violent game when they have to worry about whom to tackle where and how.

I understand the violent helmet to helmet hits being a safety issue etc...That play by Willis was helmet to helmet, not particularly violent but by the rule should have been a penalty. It was more obvious than the hit Lewis was called for yesterday.

As much I hate to say it the rules need to be governed by their intent and the spirit of the rule, not just by the letter of the rule.

For example there is nothing worse than the call made when a defender jumps up in front of a QB to try to block a pass and their hand comes down and just barely hits a QB's helmet and they call a contact to the head penalty.

They are too concerned with having judgment calls though and I understand the reason for that as well.

Okay, I may have been wrong.

That's a scary GD defense right there.

Not sure how they'll run against these guys. They may have to use it as a decoy to set up a play-fake HR ball.

Chiefs will need at least 1 big play on offense to win this because that San Fran defense is freakin' mean.

I hate saying this crap, I don't want to defend Cassel. But Cassel has been a more productive NFL QB than Alex Smith has. And he hasn't had nearly as much opportunity to work in a first team setting at any level. I think Smith can turn it around... he's still young and talented. Backup syndrome. If he was starting we'd be bitching and calling for his miracle bench replacement to take over.If he didn't get injured so damn much, he'd be working on his 3.5th complete season right now. That's around 50 games.

If he was struggling like Cassel is right now after 50 games, it'd be a different story. But whenever he's played in games for us, he's looked (somewhat) good. Think back to the Baltimore game to open last year.

There's a reason why Chiefs fans doubt him, and it's not because they think he's untalented. That doesn't matter when talking about Chiefs fans' patience with young QBs. The sampling data is just too damn small to look at.
