View Full Version : Chiefs Smith accused again.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Shaun Smith has been accused of grabbing the private parts of an opposing player for the second consecutive game, according to CSNBayArea.com.

San Francisco 49ers rookie right tackle Anthony Davis drew a penalty Sunday for retaliating against Smith in the 49ers' 31-10 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

"I think he got hit inappropriately," Singletary said. "After a while, there's only so much you can take. He (Davis) was wrong for retaliating and he knows that."

Davis' penalty occurred early in the third quarter, with the Chiefs leading 10-3.

"He tried to feel me," Davis said. "That's weird, right?"

Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack accused Smith of grabbing his private parts during the Browns 16-14 loss to the Chiefs on Sept. 19.

Mack said Smith, who played two seasons for the Browns before he was released last year, committed the dirty play during the second quarter.

"I don't think he should be able to do that," Mack said on Sept. 20. "I'm still fired up about it."

Mack was so enraged by what Smith did during a running play that he started to chase him toward Kansas City's sideline before turning around because Cleveland's punt team was coming onto the field. Mack gestured to the officials and pointed at Smith, who denied any wrongdoing.

"I don't have no comment," Smith said following the Browns game. "I don't recall doing anything like that. I'm not known for being a dirty player or anything like that, so I don't know what that was all about."

Smith, signed by the Chiefs during the offseason, has played in 66 NFL games, including 29 starts, with the New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals, Browns and Chiefs. He has 167 tackles and two sacks in his career.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I don't really care for the dirty play as I don't think he needs it. I love his attitude and he's playing really good. Hopefully Tyson will be back and they can keep the d-line doing what they have been doing.... I just don't want the Chiefs to be known as dirty players.....but hey whatever it takes to win! Watch out Indy here we come! Maybe with a bye week and some good game planning we can bring it.

A cup wouldn't be effective against groping. It's an issue because there's no football reason to grab an opponent's nuts. If Smith is doing that, he should stop because at some point he'll get maimed by someone. It's a major violation of the code.

From Yahoo Sports:

Shaun Smith accused again of touching someone inappropriately

By MJD

Remember last week, when Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack(notes) accused Chiefs defensive end Shaun Smith of grabbing his genitals?

Smith stands accused of putting his hand back in that same cookie jar this week. This time it's 49ers right tackle Anthony Davis making the accusation. From Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com:

Davis said Smith's actions were, well, below the belt.

"He tried to feel me," Davis said. "That's weird, right?"

Unless Smith also happens to be your urologist, then yeah, that's weird.

It's effective, though. Davis, just like Mack last week, was called for a 15-yard personal foul penalty right after the alleged naughty touch. Smith has yet to draw a flag or a fine.

I think two accusations are enough for the league to look into this. There are enough cameras on the field that if Shaun Smith is out there habitually meathooking, he needs to be held accountable. I don't even know what kind of punishment is called for. Out here in society, we call this sort of thing "sexual assault."

Yep! Problem solved... not to mention Smith was handing him his jock all day. Davis' quote seems weird to me. If some was trying to pop your mangrape, your comment after the game shouldn't read like a sexual harassment testimony before Congress. That said, this sort of stuff goes on all the time in piles in the trenches. Guys look for any advantage. Mark Schelerth wasn't nicknamed "stink" for nothing, & guys pissing themselves and worse to keep people off them happens quite a bit too..

I remember hearing about a defensive tackle in the Sixties who somehow managed to chew tobacco while playing. He would spit tobacco juice on the ball and on the center's hands before the snap. If you are one of the few people who are all worked up over Shaun's nuthooks, then maybe you should pray every night that Saint Tony Dungy goes back into coaching. Its football, its nasty, there are cheap shots, and people cuss. Its not tennis or golf, ITS FOOTBALL.

You know why he does it?

He doesn't want guys holding him.

I have a gif of him grabbin da nutz. He does it when the guy starts holding.

Marty Schottenheimer used to say are they holding you? DON'T LET THEM HOLD YOU!

Well, guess what the most effective way to prevent them from holding you is? Give the incentive.

You should post this. I'm curious.

I have a dream.

The Chiefs will be playing an important game later this year. Late in the game, as they cling to a lead, the opposing team will be driving towards a game winning field goal. Just before they get into field goal range, they will have to convert a 4th and 1.

The Chiefs' tired, ragged defense will stick their hands in the dirt, clench their jaws and dig their heels in. The other team has called a run right up the gut. It's man against man. Whoever wins this down, wins the game.

The center will snap the ball and Ron Edwards will IMMEDIATELY grab his balls. The entire opposing offensive line will feel the WRATH of the Kansas City Chiefs as we grab ALL of their nuts and twist for all we are worth. The penetration into the backfield will be epic, and the running back will be stuffed.

And Shaun Smith will laugh.

Dreith is also known among football fans for his unique explanation of a personal foul penalty during a 1986 game between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets. After the Jets' Marty Lyons (misidentified as Mark Gastineau during Dreith's call) tackled Bills quarterback Jim Kelly to the ground and started to repeatedly punch him in the head, Dreith announced to the crowd: "We have a personal foul on number 99 of the defense after he tackled the quarterback, he's giving him the business down there, that's a 15-yard penalty." Chiefs DE Smith's wandering hands a sensitive issue

Reputations in sports are a funny thing. Sometimes the worst possible rep can become the best –- like, say, being named the dirtiest player, or the biggest goon or the guy with the most red cards.

You tend, when you get one of these, to get a wider berth on the field. You're also prone to get players who want your rep, in that young gunslinger kind of way.

Then there's Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Shaun Smith, who is developing his own rep -- as a serial package-grabber.

Now explain that to the kids.

For the second week in a row, Smith was accused of nethers-seizing, this time by San Francisco 49ers rookie tackle Anthony Davis, who was caught retaliating. The week before, Cleveland center Alex Mack nearly chased him around the field before being convinced to leave the field for the Browns' punt team.

So far Smith has not responded to the charge that he grabs for other players' sensitives, though we should expect him to hold up a freshly sanitized hand and swear that he has never ever ever put his hand where competitors' hands weren't designed to go.

Still, to be accused of it twice in two weeks by two men who, as near as we can tell, have never met each other and therefore have not had time to compare notes, leads a reasonable person to conclude that where there is smoke, there are palm prints.

Now Conrad Dobler, largely considered the most creatively dirty player in National Football League history, was accused of working the joy divisions of other players when the opportunity presented itself. But it was part of a wider repertoire, with biting, gouging, kneeing, kicking and other more acceptable forms of social intercourse.

There is no anecdotal evidence that Smith has such a well-developed game, cheating-wise. He is known, as of now, for just the one thing, and that's a hell of a rep to live down, let alone to keep up.

Put another way, to quote Davis, "He tried to feel me. That's weird, right?"

Yeah, weird. And apparently effective. The Chiefs won both games, and Davis, who had a tough day in general in the Chiefs' 31-10 win over San Francisco, was forgiven by otherwise critical coach Mike Singletary for his momentary loss of self-control.

But a question arises from this. If the Chiefs are 2-0 with Smith going grab-bagging, doesn't a rudimentary course of "post hoc ergo propter hoc" (Latin for taking a fallacious assumption and assuming the ensuing result occurred because of the assumption) become Kansas City's new emphasis this week?

In other words, coaches being particularly strident believers in Pavlovian stimulus response, doesn't Todd Haley have to devote at least 15 minutes each practice this week and next to teaching and refining his players' abilities to seize opponents' cash and prizes?

I mean, the Chiefs have the bye this week, and the Colts on Oct. 10. Indianapolis has a veteran offensive line, so the Chiefs would have 10 practice days to get really good at goods-groping between now and then.

And one can only guess how this sort of advancement in training techniques strikes Tony Dungy.

Anyway, it looks like Shaun Smith might have started a firestorm, whether Haley makes it a team-bonding activity or not. Smith is now known as the guy who likes to use the grip-and-grin, and it's going to take more than a stern denial to convince people otherwise.

It's a PR problem. It's a procedural problem. It's going to be a math problem when the statistical experts do a learned study on the correlation between seizing an opponent's dangly bits and yards gained. It's even a technology problem, because the NFL's response to any problem is to mechanize a solution.

And what players want to have to wear pants whose crotches light up when someone has applied too much force where gentility is required? This could turn into a labor problem, too.

But until then, there's Shaun Smith and his magician's hands, and the possibility that his Hall of Fame plaque is going to have some explaining to do.

For those who keep asking the question...NO, most college and pro football players don't wear cups for a very good reason, injury. For the few times you actually get hit straight in the package, it wouldn't compare to the hundreds of times you get hit on the side of the thigh. The cup digs itself into the skin/flesh area on both sides and you can really get hurt.

As for Sean Smith, dude is playing great. If he wants to give free prostate exams on the field as a public service, why should any of us care? Keep doin' what you doin', big fella.

As an aside, Broderick Thomas was the biggest groin grabber on the planet when he played at Nebraska. He'd crush anybody's goods on the bottom of the pile.

Brandon Albert was just on Sirius football and was asked about this. Of course he says he doesn't know what their talking about. The hosts said oh he must not do that in practice haha.

Anyhow decent interview about how he has gotten in better shape and the leadership that has helped him mature as a player.

That video is inconclusive, we need more angles. Innocent until proven guilty. Now all the OL from future opponents are going to be sweating it out. :D

Maybe my eyes suck, but I can't really tell what's going on in that video. I see an elbow, but am not sure how you see his hand from that angle and this isn't trying to defend Smith. I'm not proud of having the Chiefs accused of being a dirty wiener grabbing team.

There's nothing visible. I watched it back from the game in HD and there's never any angle showing Smith making contact with the guy's junk.

But Davis clearly reacted like something happened, which means it probably did.

I sent an email to NFL. com telling them that they need to add 2 sacks to Smith's totals on the season.
