Well those stats are a good start. But its the stats at the end of the season that matter.

Chiefs would have been number 1 in points allowed if the Fuggin niners wouldn't have scored that garbage TD.

Everyone is making so much noise about how great the Pittsburgh defense is. How does KC's D compare, besides being 2nd in points allowed?

Our defense is also third in third down conversion percentage.

Where is Smith ranked as the 6th best defensive lineman at?

Denver's defense was on pace to be up there with the 2001 Ravens and 85 Bears 3 games into the season last year.

Denver's defense was on pace to be up there with the 2001 Ravens and 85 Bears 3 games into the season last year but our coach is a friggin moron and couldn't motivate the team so we ended up nearly last in all important stats by the time it was all done.

Fixed your dumbass post.

Fixed your dumbass post.

No what happened was we covered up our weakness with coaching and our schemes were figured out (against Baltimore) and we just didn't have the talent/depth on the DL to overcome.

How is that not relevant to the defensive stats? You guys haven't exactly played offensive juggernauts. The teams you've beaten have a combined record of 1-8. The Chargers are a decent team when they have VJ and McNeil but aren't that good without them especially on the road against a hostile crowd in bad weather. Bad weather keeps bad teams in games.

Its just really cool to not be the laughing stock of the league anymore...

Huh? San Diego is still one of the best offenses in the league and San Fran shredded New Orleans D the week before for over 400 yards of offense. The Chargers put up 500 yards on the Seahawks in Seattle. Cleveland moved the ball on Baltimore.

We're good now.

Not great, not playoff standouts, but good.

Deal...

Like it or not, Knowmo's point about the 2009 Broncos' defensive projections early in their season is entirely relevant here.

Is our coach going to change things up on D around midseason even though things are going well leading to an epic collapse? If so, totally relevent.

Tampa Bay's defense was looking pretty good going into week 3 giving up 10 points per game and forcing 3 TO's per game.... Then they played the Steelers and gave up 38 points.

Yeah, I seem to remember some team starting last year 6-0....and then going 2-8 the rest of the way too.

If we went 6-0 and then tanked the season that would SURPASS expectations...

The way things work is that despite many fans not expecting much going into this season, if we went 6-0 and finished 2-8, lots of those fans would be calling for Haley's head.

True.

I would.

Mostly due to the fact I think he and Casshole are the last remaining weak links...

More evidence that Smith should push T-Jax to the bench. I think Haley plays the hot guy rather than Pioli's guy, but that may just be wishful thinking.

I hope not. Jackson was looking good against San Diego. He still has a lot more upside than Smith. Plus, we need this depth. Ron Edwards needs a break and Smith will get a lot of snaps in place of both Edwards and Jackson, so he should still be getting as many if not more snaps than the "starters" while keeping everyone fresh.

I actually *gulps* agree with KnowMo here. Guys, there's a LOT to be encouraged and excited about. We are definitely improving, and I think we're going to contend for the division title this year.

However, it's way way too early. And the fact that Denver doubled our current win streak last year and STILL missed the playoffs entirely is relevant to us.

Fortunately our coaches are FAR superior to Denver's from last year (or this for that matter), and our talent is at least equal to theirs if not better.

Too bad that shit-heel Coach of yours is a fraud.

The Chiefs D is so much improved that I signed them to be the back-up D on my fantasy League. They're putting up decent ff numbers, but I haven't been brave enough to start them yet. They need to show that this trend is going to last. We saw something like this happen in 2004 or 2005 where they started strong, people wanted to annoint them as the "Red Mudslide" and then they regressed to the same awful D that year.
