Here's an amusing thought experiment:

The Colts and the Chiefs swap QBs, because God hates the Colts or something.

Nothing else on either team changes.

What's the Chiefs record, what's the Colts record.

Go.

Chiefs: 12-4. Peyton Manning plus a running game? Hell, 4 losses may be too many.

Colts: 5-11. The Colts greatest strength is their TE/WR. Without a running game, and with the injuries they have on defense, 5 wins might be pushing it.

How much does the shadow of Manning hurt the development of a team's running game? How much real effort does a team dedicate to a running game with Manning on the team?

My guess is that we'd still be 3-0. I don't think Manning is that much of a downgrade.

Just think how tired our defense would be. With 3 and 4 play 90 yrd drives by the offense they would get no rest.

It's just fantasy bro. Chill.

To be serious though, we are winning in spite of Cassel. Man I hope either Wies can make something out of him, or he just shits the bed. Something's gotta give. If he doesn't raise his game, we're gonna have to get another QB. He's gonna hold us back from taking the biggest step.

I believe this is the problem with winning right now, we are winning in spite of Cassel. If we keep doing this, and possibly even make the playoffs with Cassel playing this way, the higher ups will say "See, he is good enough" and not worry about upgrading.

If we're winning and enjoying success, what would be the point of changing? Leadership and chemistry mean nothing?

There are multiple ways to win games in this league, and if we've found one successful method, why switch? You only risk messing shit up.

Ain't broke, don't fix it. I'll take a stout D and power running game any day of the week.

Exactly. So that being the case, Carl Peterson would still be the President and GM of The Kansas City Chiefs.

This idea that Manning killed their running game is overdone, it's just now their RB's/running game isn't very good and he knows it.

There have been plenty of posts to this effect over the last couple weeks. I've simply been convinced by the stronger argument.

Trading Cassel for Manning makes the Colts a 4 win team at best. Probably worse than that. The reason they're winning games at all right now is because Manning is a badass.

Yet, he's paid like an elite QB and playing like a damn undrafted rookie FA. If he doesn't startr playing up to his pay scale, they're not keeping him around and paying him his roster bonus.

And come playoff time, you're down 6 points with 2 minutes on the clock. The D's on the sideline and the running game's not a realistic option. Do you have faith in Cassell to complete multiple consecutive passes and win the game for us? The win now, pay later approach has kept this team out of the Superbowl for fourty damn years.

Really?? We won tons of games in the 90's but that method always failed in the playoffs..

Does everyone honestly believe this team can win a playoff game right now with Cassle??

As to the OP, Chiefs would be light years better..

As for Indy's WR's I do think much of them if Peyton is not throwing the ball to them.. He is one of the few QBs around the league that makes people look better then what they are..

Too bad he cannot make his own defense look better..

Yeah, I know Herm was really concerned about this when he took over Vermeil's offense. The first thing he addressed was the offense's propensity to score.
