Joneses: Phillips' job isn't in jeopardy despite Cowboys' start

Dallas Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) brass is disappointed with their team's 1-3 start, but head coach Wade Phillips' job is "absolutely" safe, executive vice president Stephen Jones told NFL Network's Albert Breer at the NFL Fall League Meeting in Chicago.

"I think in our organization everybody is taking responsibility, not just Wade," Stephen Jones said. "He does. He takes responsibility. The coaching staff takes responsibility. The players take it. We all take it.

"We're a team, we're an organization, and when we fall short, we accept it as a team."

Jones' father, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones, echoed his comments, saying that "with Wade ... I'm very comfortable that we can do better."

Jerry Jones repeatedly has made clear his support this season for Phillips, who has been under fire since the Cowboys' failure to reach the playoffs in 2008, his second season in charge. Phillips was given a two-year contract extension in January after guiding the team to its second NFC East title in three seasons and first postseason win in a dozen years.
The Cowboys lost their first two games this season, at Washington and at home against Chicago, before winning in Houston. They followed their bye week with a 34-27 loss last weekend to visiting Tennessee and play Sunday at Minnesota.

"Even if we were winning, we've got a lot of things that can make us a better team that are encouraging," Jerry Jones told Breer at the owners' meetings. "Since we haven't been [winning], we've really got a lot of things we can address. There's not just one thing, but we are obviously making mistakes. But those are things that are correctable."

The owner said he was "certainly disappointed for everyone concerned, surprised, and I feel like we're losing time here. We're running out of time, even though it's early in the season. If we're gonna go, we've got to go now, and go hard. ...

"When you start off and you don't win but one ballgame out of four, you feel like you need to win all the games."

The Cowgirls are an example of how poor coaching and being undisciplined can ruin your success despite having all that talent. They have a QB and receiving corps that is the envy of the league and yet they are bottom dwellers at 1-3. Fans here still think they are Americas team and the local media sucks up to them constantly that if you are a young player on the Cowgirls I imagine it would be real easy to buy into your own hype. I predict Wade is gone at the end of the year and Jerry makes a run at Cowher.

Don't forget that they actually have what should be a very nice trio of RBs...

Choice and Jones are good. Marion Barber is overrated and acts like an idiot after making routine runs. Dallas is such a market of homers that even a spare like Martellus Bennett is considered a celebrity.

You ain't lying. I'm going up against a guy in fantasy football that has 5 Dallas players as starters.

Why is that a bad feeling? They had Parcells and it didn't matter.

I've always wondered...why is Cowher so loved? I don't understand why his 1 superbowl in 15 years makes him so great. He's a good coach...but I don't understand why every team's fans pine for him when they have a HC vacancy.

The Cowboys have some big holes in both the O and D lines.

It must work, you could find several post from last year with Mecca's drool dripping off Bennett's nuts.

He rebuilt them into a Superbowl contender. They just don't have a good enough coach to get them there.

They play the 1-3 Vikings next week.

Is there anyway they can both lose?

That Cowgirl loss last week was hilarious because all during the bye week the local media was crowing about how the team responded with their backs against the wall against Houston. The local homers were trying to say Dallas had turned it around in Houston and the Cowgirls were primed to turn their season around. It's such a joy to listen to sports talk radio after a Cowgirl loss and hear the fans crying after seeing that the Cowgirls aren't the football Gods they are made out to be.

Wade Phillips should never have been hired and Jerry Jones is slowly becoming Al Davis.

His constant meddling, lack of football knowledge and awareness are severely hindering his team and their progress.

Instead of chasing after every big name coach, he should be scouring the league for guys who were true football coaches like Sean Payton, Raheem Morris and even Todd Haley.

But honestly, I don't give a fuck. I hope they never win anything, ever again.

At least the Faiders can look forward to Al Davis kicking the bucket at any moment and getting a better owner. When Jerry Jones walks into the proverbial AIDS tree Jerry Jones Jr. takes over.

Spot on. Ironically, he had Payton and Haley at one time. Jerry Jones is a great owner, but as a GM he is basically his own worst enemy.
