Time to go buy posterboard and markers, Mizzou fans.

"College GameDay" is on its way.

For the first time this season, ESPN's weekly pregame show will visit a Big 12 venue, heading to Columbia for Missouri's homecoming game against Oklahoma.

Both teams are among just 10 remaining undefeated squads left in college football, and with dominant wins on Saturday, look ready to play the biggest game of the Big 12 season so far.

Saturday will also be the show's first-ever visit to Missouri's campus.

There is a lot of facebook/twitter stuff going on to try and get it. I haven't heard anything official, or remotely resembling anything official though. Mizzou and OK should both be ranked and it's homecoming, so there is a definite chance.

Musberger said late in the Ohio State game that they were officially going to MU next week for the prime 8pm game on ABC. So I'd assume yes. Going from Auburn in the morning to MU might be a bit too far for Herbstreit to call the game.

I don't think they've had one in Columbia yet. They were at Arrowhead in 2007 and I think one or two of the games at OU and Texas a few years back had the gameday crew. I think they will be at LSU/Auburn this week.

I don't know about "deserving" it, but you have a strong argument. They'll probably choose OU/Mizzou because the LSU/Auburn game is on CBS. ESPN would rather promote their own product.

Yea, I agree with you on that statement. LSU/Auburn is just as "deserving" of Gameday. Hopefully that mentioning of that SEC showdown being on CBS is the dealbreaker for us. I can easily see it going both ways though because both matchups look impressive.

I'd actually rather have in it be at the LSU/Auburn game so Mizzou can stay under the radar as long as possible. It seems like whenever they start getting any kind of national attention, they go out and fall on their face against a team like OU, UT, NU, etc.

Well, if you always stay below the radar, you will never take the next step. This team needs to win a big game on national tv to prove they aren't afraid of the big boys.

Yea, Id rather have the big game on Gameday...the more the merrier. It helps with recruiting and it jacks up the team and fanbase.

In the case of OU and UT, I think we tend to fall on our face because they are really, really good every year, not because we're getting national attention.

unless you watch that show, NO ONE in Columbia knows who that is.

There's a local columbia MU commercial with him on it, and just about everyone always says ...."who's that?" because it lists his name along with "academy award winner/nominee"

Why? The Sooners have played well in 2 games (Florida State and Iowa State) and not so well in 3 games (Cincy, Utah St., Air Force), and okay in one (Texas).

Elizabeth Moss looked absolutely stunning in a sequined number, like a Greek goddess straight out of Homer. Jon Hamm seemed slightly bored, (when you're the most desired man in the United States that can happen), and a little more focused on his University of Missouri Tigers, set to play the Oklahoma Sooners next week. (Hamm was noncommittal when DailyFinance asked him to confirm that the University of Oregon Ducks are the No. 1 team in the country.)

They played okay. It wasn't a dominating performance or anything. Florida State was their "A" game, Utah State was their "D-" game. I'd say that the Texas game was about a "B-" by Oklahoma's standards. That's not a swipe at Oklahoma. It's a compliment.

He's going to throw more TDs than we've given up all year or than he's thrown in a game all year? Against the number two scoring defense in the country? On the road?

Harpos ****ing blows. As does Big12. I guess you like standing around, not being able to get a drink because the bar is too ****ing crowded while frats guys talk about being in frats doing frat things with other frats. Shiloh's and FH are okay though. I like the Penguin. Piano bars IMO are fun.

I'm going to SS because half the TV's will be the MU game, the other half will be the Brock Lesnar/Cain Velasquez UFC 121 fight.

Not to mention the downtown bars never have drink specials on game weekends....certainly not HC weekend when you have alumni and parents coming into town. Have fun paying cover and drinking $3-$4 beers. I'll drink 4 for your every 1 for the same price.

Jesus Christ, do I have to go over this again? I was born in Lawrence. Both my parents worked for KU, both of my parents were originally from Iowa. When I was in early middle school I moved to Iowa. Ever since I was a little kid I have been a huge KU fan of all sports. Went to my first Big 8 tournament when I was like 9 or 10. Starting in middle school I began following Iowa as well and graduated from college from the University of Iowa. I lived two blocks from Kinnick f*cking Stadium for three years. I had season tickets. Iowa and Kansas are not rivals. I like all of their sports, support them both. You would to if you had grown up like that.

You all seem to think I jumped on the Iowa bandwagon for some reason? Do you want me to post pictures of me tailgating at my house when they were going 6-6 and 7-6 in 2005 and 2006 and what not? What about the games I traveled 5 hours for in 2001?

I think it is funny you all criticize me for liking the two teams where I grew up at, while alot of you like other teams for no apparent reason except they are good.

I think it is funny you all criticize me for liking the two teams where I grew up at, while alot of you like other teams for no apparent reason except they are good.

I read the board wrong. But it was -3.5 this morning. I'm sure they hope people load up on Missouri. :D

80% of bets are going towards OU, but the line is going toward Mizzou. That means the average joe laying down 50 bucks is putting it on OU, but the big spenders are betting on MU.

Mizzou's lost (I believe) seven straight to OU. They just seem to get their nads in their throat every time they play the Sooners.

Hope to break the trend, but I don't really see it. Mizzou usually pisses itself when on a national stage.

Unless we're playing KU.

Things change. If our team has the same pessimistic mentality of some of our fans, then yes, we will never win these games. I am convinced we can and will win Saturday. This version of the Tigers is much better equipped than our previous teams. We don't need to hope for a 50-49 victory as our chance to win.

Yeah, it's sort of like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. You know how it's going to end. Of course, every ten or fifteen years we do actually manage to beat them, and God knows we're due.

I'd like to believe the hype, and not cynically assume that the high ranking and national attention is just fattening us up for the slaughter for the sole benefit of OU. I realize our line play is better on both sides of the ball this year, and that's always been a key factor in the Gooners kicking our asses. But I hate the spread offense, which has sputtered early in every game I've been able to watch. Sputtering early against the Gooners will not be a good thing.

And, of course, we all know the facts of life when it comes to recruiting talent.

And while I don't really want to dwell on this, given our history, as well as our failed attempt to escape the BIG 2+those other ten teams earlier in the year, I don't exactly expect a well-officiated game from Beebe's henchmen.

But I'll be watching, and hoping for a different outcome than usual.

Never seen AMC? It's been on basic cable as long as I've been alive! It's always been a movie channel and still is but they began 5 years ago airing original television content. The two best dramas on all of TV right now (and it isn't even close) are on AMC: Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Mad Men has won the Emmy for Best Drama three years in a row (a cable first) and Breaking Bad's star, Brian Cranston, has put on an acting clinic en route to winning three consecutive Emmys for Best Actor in a Drama. AMC's third original series, Rubicon, just wrapped up an acclaimed first season. They're going to premier their fourth series, an adaptation of the graphic novel The Walking Dead, on the 31st.

Jon Hamm seemed slightly bored, (when you're the most desired man in the United States that can happen), and a little more focused on his University of Missouri Tigers, set to play the Oklahoma Sooners next week. Budweiser Budvar Czech Premium Lager / Czechvar (Red, white, and Golden Label): The classic Budějovický Budvar lager. Contains 5% alcohol by volume.
Budweiser Budvar Pale Beer (Silver, white, and Golden Label): Marketed as a more accessible beer than the red label. Contains 4% alcohol by volume.
Budweiser Budvar Premium Dark Lager (Black Label): This beer is brewed in the same style as the red label, but is brewed from three different kinds of barley malts. Contains 4.7% alcohol by volume.
Budweiser Budvar non-alcoholic beer (Green Label): A non-alcohol version. Contains a maximum of 0.5% alcohol by volume.
Bud Super Strong (Dark Red Label): This beer is marketed as the super-premium member of the Budvar family. Contains 7.6% alcohol by volume.
Budweiser Budvar Yeast Lager: Unlike the other Budvar beers, Yeast Lager is served in kegs, not bottles. 5% alcohol by volume.
Pardál: Budvar calls Pardál "the perfect beer for sharp and full bitter flavoured beer lovers." Contains 3.8% alcohol by volume.

Watching the Scott van Pelt show on ESPNU, his co-anchor Ryen Russillo is on site at Columbia and said that some students walked by him and asked him who he was picking, he said "not you guys", and they responded by flipping him off.

LMAO awesome.

Funniest part was that he liked the enthusiasm and confidence of the fans.

Mizzou getting some props on College Football live right now.

Scott Van Pelt: "our people there say Columbia went off like no other place Gameday has been." lots of good pub so far for #Mizzou.

MU_Homecoming

The campus is in FULL HOMECOMING SPIRIT! ESPN College GameDay said they've never had that many fans on a Friday!..

ESPN says Mizzou is 'perfect GameDay site'

ESPN's traveling carnival known as "College GameDay'' is hunkering down in central Missouri for the first time. And it's causing quite a stir in Columbia, where Francis Quadrangle on the Mizzou campus is being prepared for what figures to be a raucous show Saturday morning as several elements meld to create what an ESPN producer calls an ideal setup for the network.

"The exposure is phenomenal,'' Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said this week in Columbia. "We don't have a bank account big enough to be able to get that kind of exposure, not only for our football program but for our university."

"GameDay" is the pregame show leading into a full day of college football telecasts on ESPN and companion networks, this week with the Oklahoma-MU contest in the prime-time showpiece slot on ABC.

"GameDay'' airs from the site of a big game or compelling college football story each week, and a marquee ingredient is a gaggle of "enthusiastic'' students, cheerleaders and band members performing on site. They create an atmosphere much more energetic than the show used to have when it originated from a studio.

Whether some of this throng comes across as looking like a bunch of drunk college kids or simply a group that will act silly just to get on television is open to debate, but what isn't in question is that the decision to hit the road has been a ratings success. The program was seen in about 912,000 homes each week in 1993, the year before it started becoming a road show on a regular basis. This year, it's viewed in about 1.7 million households.

Now MU gets its first visit from the crew that's fronted by host Chris Fowler, analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Desmond Howard and reporter Erin Andrews. That program runs from 9-11 a.m. on ESPN after an early version of the show, at 8 a.m., is anchored by Andrews on ESPNU.

They'll be in the Quad, with MU's signature columns and Jesse Hall as the backdrop. ESPN also is scheduled to do some taping and live segments there from about 9 a.m.-noon today.

"People always ask me what our favorite place to do the show is and my answer's always 'anywhere we've never been before,'" said Lee Fitting, "GameDay'' coordinating producer. "The excitement and the anticipation from the students is unmatched.''

Fowler concurred.

"We never go into a show in a new place without an extra bounce in our step,'' he said in an interview Thursday, a day after saying on ESPN that "we've been promised a wild welcome.''

In the interview, he said MU fans had a big reaction on social media sites soon after it was announced that "GameDay'' was Columbia-bound.

"Within a few minutes ... the messages came pouring in by the hundreds,'' he said. "It's exciting. There are a lot of exclamation points at the end of the messages, so I can tell they're excited.''

"Perfect 'GameDay' site''

Adding to the atmosphere is that it's homecoming weekend at MU, with the parade being moved from its usual early-morning start to noon to allow people to attend it as well as "GameDay.''

Fitting said the scenario for Saturday is about as good as it gets for "GameDay.''

"The set-up we're going to have this weekend is a recipe for success,'' he said. "It's a first-time school, a school hosting the No. 1-ranked team in the country (in the BCS standings) and we're set up in the ultimate collegiate setting on the Quad, with the buildings surrounding us. If you could draw a perfect 'GameDay' site for us, this would be it.''

Fowler, who broadcast the MU-Nebraska game in Columbia last season, said he is looking forward to returning.

"What we're excited about being in Columbia is being on the Quad, in front of the admin building, in front of the columns,'' he said. "We're looking at that being a real positive part of the show.''

ESPN and MU officials scouted out the location Monday. The appeal of the Quad, its proximity to student housing and the fact the contest doesn't start until eight hours after "GameDay'' ends — meaning there will be few people near the stadium early in the day — led to a simple decision.

"This will make it easier for students to roll out of their beds and come down and watch the show,'' Fitting said.

Some students will be rolling out real early — or just staying up. Students will be allowed in the Quad beginning at 3:30 a.m.

But even with all the planning, there could be a big damper put on the festivities. The Columbia forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday morning.

"It can be a big bummer if it rains and turns kids away,'' Fitting said. "Or it can be a wild scene if pouring rain and all the kids stay out there and it's muddy and sloppy. It can be fun in a way.''

The show is about people having fun as well as providing information. And although the crew members sometimes get the rock-star treatment, Fowler keeps things in perspective.

"I want the focus to remain where it should be — we're there because the game is big,'' he said. "If people at Missouri want to feel our Saturday-morning appearance validates the program or the size of the game, great. But ... we're not delusional to think the five of us (on the set) are the reason why many, many thousands of people show up. It's because they want to show how they feel about their program, that it's a big game. That's not some sort of false humility — I really do feel that way. But it is flattering, people respond well and we generally get a very warm welcome when we go to a place the first time, and we expect that here.''

More coverage

ESPN Radio (WXOS, 101.1 FM locally) simulcasts "GameDay'' from 9-11 a.m., then continues with its own college football coverage hosted by Ryen Russillo with analysts Trevor Matich and Brad Edwards. That program, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., originates from the north end of Mizzou Arena — where the men's basketball team has a scrimmage at 2:30 that's open to the public.

Then Brent Musburger has the play-by-play of the game on the national telecast (KDNL, Channel 30 locally at 7 p.m.), with Herbstreit doing analysis and Andrews reporting from the field. MU gets even more attention after the game, because a key portion of ESPN's college football wrap-up programming on Saturday nights comes from the "GameDay'' site.

This Game Day stuff is so fun, I wish I could be there.

I'm pretty mellow about the game -- I think we have a shot to win, but I expect to lose, and I think it will at least be a decent game because the MU D is improved.

But the Game Day stuff is what really has me energized. All the positive reviews pouring in, listening to ESPN Radio talk about us so positively, really makes me proud.

He lost, but he helped create a program that is poised to be great for years to come.

Kansas, on the other hand, pretty much imploded following their third place finish in the Big XII and have lost progressively more games each year since then. Their AD has resigned in disgrace. Their morbidly obese coach was forced out in disgrace. Their new coach started in disgrace by losing to a 1-AA school, and his players don't get to have any contact with women, cell phones, the endzone, or bowl games.

Meanwhile, Chase Daniel is the backup QB for the World Chamption New Orleans Saints, and what's his name who was the KU QB does local commercials for Scott's turf builder where he promises that your lawn can look as green and lush as the one in his facemask.

Apparently Kimmie English is in the crowd holding up a sign that says "Come Back 4 Basketball."

You are insane.
They make me very happy inside...and outside in certain ways.

When I was at Mizzou I worked for four years at a restaurant/bar that was right across the street from Jesse Hall called Michael's. It was next door to "The Shack." Now the Alumni Center is where the bar was (it got swallowed up by eminent domain and bulldozed). There's a statue of Beetle Bailey where The Shack used to be. On that game day shot, that's from the opening to the Quad, down by the Journalism school and Geology Dept. I spent three years in J-School at Mizzou.

Nice to see such a big turnout. Awesome!

The girls in the pic you posted look better than the ones earlier in the thread. In my experience, every college campus has better talent than what's displayed on the cheerleader/dance squads.
