View Full Version : Chiefs I have not and will NEVER stand for the Texas state anthem!

Had a good road trip to the game this weekend despite the heartbreaking loss. Tailgated with some Chiefs fans before and after the game. I stood for the national anthem of course and I stood when some fat former American Idol contestant sang proud to be an American. I sat the entire time the Texas anthem was played. No matter how much you way too proud of Texas people want to be a seperate nation it will never happen and as such I will not stand for your states anthem.

I've been to lots of sporting events in Texas and this is the first time I've seen it done. Typically they'll play deep in the heart of Texas during the 7th inning stretch or halftime and nobody is expected to standup. Fine whatever, but don't ask me to rise for the state anthem. Kiss my ass.

They have to spend a lot of ARRA money. The press release was stamped into gold and heralded by a trumpet chorus.

I didn't know there was one. At my kids school they say a pledge of allegience to the Texas flag. First they pledge to the U.S. flag, then they turn to the Texas flag and pledge allegience to the Texas flag. I usually am quiet for that.

But I would stand for a Texas anthem. Standing for an anthem doesn't mean you're saying you love it more than the US or anything. When I went to hockey games in Buffalo they played the Canadien anthem (I think they do that at all the NHL arenas), and everyone stood for that. Who cares?

Some people don't place their right hand over their hearts or remove their hat(s) when the national anthem is played, too.

Well, they invented over the top state pride down here.

In 28 years of living in KS, I never saw the state flag of KS displayed anywhere other then a government building. Down here they stamp a lone star on everything and charge more money for doing it.

It's borderline annoying but nothing that throws me into a rage or anything. I think my perspective may have changed the day I realized that I was probably going to be living here the rest of my life.

It doesn't bother me I was just using internet theatrics and I'm still a little bitter after losing to the Texans. They played the anthem I didn't stand end of story. Not as dramatic as I made it sound.

Visited Texas a few years ago. That whole "Don't mess with Texas" thing, they really mean that. And for the most part, I didn't really have a problem with Texas or their people. They were polite (held the door open when the 4 of us walked into McDonalds and the dude said "Hi, how y'all doin'" to each one of us) cordial (except the one drunk on the San Antonio river walk who yelled to the boat driver "Hey, you got a bunch a yankees on that boat son?") and they have a lot of pride in their state. It's a little over the top and I suppose if I were exposed to it longer in might bother me, but I found it kind of cool.

...and I would stand for their state anthem out of respect. I wouldn't hold my hand over my heart or anything, but at least I'd probably stand.
