Chiefs vs. Raiders: Will Oakland Keep TV Blackout Streak Going?
Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2010 12:40 PM CDT in 2010 Kansas City Chiefs Season

Kcoak_mediumThe Oakland Raiders have been known for some pretty terrible football over the last few years. In fact, next Sunday's game against the first place Kansas City Chiefs would likely qualify as the biggest game of the last eight years for Oakland. Yeah, it's Week 9.

As you can see in the image above (courtesy of TiqIQ), the Raiders have had all of their home games this year blacked out with the attendance has been floating around 40,000 at times this season. I passed this along yesterday but it's a quote from Raiders head coach Tom Cable that's worth repeating:

"It's already been hit with me today," Cable told reporters on Monday. "Do you think the Coliseum can be as big of an advantage as playing in Kansas City? I think it can be. I fully expect the crowd to be there and going nuts because this will be a fun time."

The numbers aren't quite in Cable's favor, yet. Though we expect the prices to rise as the week goes on, the average ticket price, per TiqIQ, has risen 13 percent for this game in Oakland. That would show some elevated interest in the game. Enough to avoid a blackout? We'll find out later in the week.

If you're an Oakland fan, this should be one of the biggest home crowds this season. The Raiders can gain a game on the Chiefs in the AFC West standings and break that awful blackout streak that dates back to 2009.

As always you can check out ticket prices to all the games at our Tickets bar at the top of the site. Here's a direct link to a variety of prices for the game in Oakland and then the season finale in Kansas City.

How can they raise prices?

Don't they realize that recently released convicted felons live on a limited income?

I'm almost certain they're in the habit of trading a carton of menthols for a ticket.

It's because McFadden has missed some games...

We are getting shit here from fans who haven't sold out a game this year and are averaging 40,000 in attendance in a metropolitan area 10x the size of KC.

Of course it's hard to sell out your stadium when 90% of your fans are in prison. LMAO

Bullshit. KCMO is 8th highest in violent crime, 9th in murder. Oakland is 4th in violent crime, 6th in murder.

Just think if they counted prison murders, how much higher that would be.

Not to interefere with your arguments over crime statistics but I was wondering what your attendance was last week. When I saw the highlights of Succups game winner, there were many empty seats in the end zone. Just curious....

We'd tell ya, but we don't think your mind could handle large numbers.

LOL.....There is a distinction between "sold out" and actual attedance. I`m not a fool enough to argue attendance here as I know most of your games are sold out. I was wondering actual attendance because like I said, that end zone shot on the field goal wasn`t heavily populated...

I gotcha. We can sell out because hard working people can buy tickets but not make the game or have to leave early due to hard work being on the schedule for the next day.

Convicts in prison can't even buy tickets.

And by the way, actual attendance would much greater for KC than the Faiders.

Don't remember exact number, but do remember it was north of 70,000. (And never even flirted with being a blackout.) You are right, though, about end zone seats. Our club level seats are insanely priced, and the few people who buy them are probably hanging out in the luxurious sports bar area inside. Really pisses me off to see that in Arrowhead.

Raider fans abound are sucking dick on the corner for ticket money as we speak. They are used to doing it in the joint for a pack of smokes, so for a ticket to a game? Seems like a discount to them!

Then you take the chance of getting shot or stabbed for it.
