View Full Version : Life Question about severance and unemployment

Ok, I was laid off at Sprint last December. I collected 7 months severance plus unemployment. This was all in Kansas. In August I took a contract with a company in Mo. The way it looks they are cutting all the contractors in the next month or two.

So, the questions are:

1. Does my severance, since it was taxed, count towards my unemployment benefits? Meaning can\should I file in Kansas since I obviously paid more into Ks via my severance?

2. Am I stuck filing in Mo and my basis is based on whatever I earned at that company?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Uncle Sam to your pocketbook. It's a worse feeling than an actual Uncle digging around in your skinny jeans.
