Mr. Laz

small yard, gas and self-propelled mower provided

not much grass to mow really, more of just a "vacuuming leaves up" type job.

leaves to be dumped in garden, not bagged.

so what is the going dollar rate for something like this nowadays?

$15-30 depending on if it's a kid or an actual insured business.

When I mow my lawn I sneeze and run snot down my face for about 4 hours afterwards. That's not free.

Our yard's about 500-550 square feet. Mexican fella mowed once a week (his mower, he took the clippings) for $50 a month. He also edged once a month & fertilized.

Seems as good a place to ask this as any...

I have been wrestling with starting and restarting my lawn here in AZ. I killed off the grass a year ago in an effort to move away from bermuda grass. Talked to folks and tried to switch to a non-bermuda this summer. It didn't work, so I left it until this fall and started (as I did last year) seeding a basically dirt yard with winter rye. Threw down the rye, spread manure down on top, watered what seemed like exactly the right amount.

Last year I did the same thing and it grew into a green winter lawn with full coverage. Looked great. This time around, it appears to only be growing in patches. The various patches probably cover about 10-20% of the total lawn. That grass is at or over an inch tall in 2-3 weeks time. The rest of the law looks like there was never any seed down (which is not true, good even see coverage everywhere).

Any idea what would cause that?

I missed this question first time around. 10-20% coverage? Clearly, you have some government agency traipsing around your yard at night. You can't see them but they're there checking up on you. Many liberal activists report similar lawn patterns.

I usually charge the woman $20 or ask for a blow job in return. If its a tight, black woman I will consider paying HER!

Man, I had that happen to me a couple of times. Cut some old lady's grass and get lemonade or a cookie as payment. I eventually got better at establishing the terms up front.

Grass grows here just fine. Something's going on. I'm guessing no one has any thoughts.

Oh really? I've never been to Tucson, but I've been to Phoenix and the only places I saw grass was on the golf courses and one little spot by the airport.

Get your soil tested by the local extension office or university and have them make recommendations.

Seems like some rye grass is used as a short-lived ground cover while the primary turf grows in. Not sure about 'winter rye' unless you have the scientific name.
