Have you used an electric smoker? How's the flavor? Do you consider using an electric smoker to be "cheating"?

No, it's not cheating. It's perfect for you. In fact, you might want to check into a smoker that will make a quality rub and apply it for you as well. Plus, maybe something computerized with a buzzer that shocks you when the item you've placed in the smoker has reached the appropriate temperature.

You should look into propane smokers as well. Easy to keep the desired temp and work great.

electric smokers arent bad at all. Heat is pretty much heat....I don't know alot about the brand you mentioned but I own 4 smokers and the electric does the job nicely..(also Have a gas and 2 charcoal ones...Although I don't use charcoal much anymore).

I am gonna look at your link now, but as long as the smoker has a place to put wood chips for smoke/flavor and liquid...It should kick ****ing ass and make good shit.

edit:

Thats a nicer electric smoker than I have for sure....Should kick ****ing ass.

I mean for 400 bucks it better! Theres cheaper ones and charcoal works great on the cheap.....but it is very handy to 1) not need fuel and 2) control temps so easily. That is why i like lectric and also my natural gas one.

I seriously think you will LOVE it, shit I might get one.

That's what I was wanting to hear. I'd like to get one for myself for Christmas. My friend has starting smoking meats and has really enjoyed it. So, you know, we've got to keep up with the Joneses!

You'll get all type of doucheitude about a plug in around here, but the real nice thing about an electric is that you have amazing control of the heat issues. You can "cold" smoke cheese, fish, etc. with an electric that you can't do with an all in one charcoal smoker. Jerk meat? Easy as hell with an electric.

They are plug and cook and virtually fuck up free. Not a bad way to go if you want to get that smoke flavor without the hassle and get a lot of versatility at the same time.

I've got a Weber Smokey Mountain and my Uncle, who can't cook a lick, has a Bradley Electric Smoker and he can get meat almost as good as cooked as mine without any effort whatsoever.

Interesting. I could swear my friends and neighbors have had plenty of cold smoked cheese from my offset. I also have amazing control of my heat. You just have to learn your rig. I mean, it's not as easy as an electric but I enjoy the challenge. If somebody invents a robot to cook dinner one day it will probably taste delicious but that kinda ruins the kitchen experience...

That having been said, I don't care either way. I've advised dozens of people on their purchases and I can generally pick the guys who are going to be happier with the "pure" smoker. It's a guy who takes a lot of pride in the finished product - somebody who plays with ingredients and spices - maybe even brews their own beer. If somebody is just as happy with Kraft Mac & Cheese as they are homemade mac & cheese then they're a pretty good candidate for an electric. I don't say that to be insulting it's just that some people want the results without all the effort, which is fine. Different strokes.
