They say the life of a kicker is difficult because your job is never safe (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2010/12/1/1846311/kyle-brotzman-boise-state-kicker) and the same can be said for long snappers. For Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/kansas-city-chiefs) long snapper Thomas Gafford (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34222/thomas-gafford), there's a feeling of relief this week.
Kent Babb of the KC Star (http://chiefsblog.kansascity.com/?q=node/1563) reports Gafford signed at two-year extension with the Chiefs through 2012. The deal includes base salaries of $550,000 in 2011 and $650,000 in 2012, according to NFLPA records.
As Babb notes, this is the third contract extension in the Scott Pioli era (outside of QB Matt Cassel) including LB Andy Studebaker and LB Derrick Johnson. Consistency. Versatility. Hard work. Those are the themes we're looking for in future contract extensions, but it's hardly an exact science.
Gafford was cut and re-signed him in 2009 and the Chiefs have at least tried him at a variety of positions (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2009/8/20/996152/chiefs-thomas-gafford-is-a-long).

It's important to have a long snapper. Easier to get your fist in, and work your arm up to the elb... wait, wut?

They should make TO THE SHA part of the lexicon in replacement for To The Ship
