If you would actually attack the predator and stop trying to correct his spelling on his advances towards the child you could actually help.

Statements like this bother me much more than the people online talking dirty. There are plenty of other solutions to the problem other than banning (or attempting to) the game which will do nothing but make your kid loath you and spend more time at his friend's house who's parents aren't lame.

Yup. You can't hear, or talk to anyone that isn't on your friends list. Then, you just have to keep an eye on who they are friends with. Personally, I've made sure that all of my 12 year old's "friends" around roughly the same age.

Set comm to friends only as one dude said, also, don't ban the game as this doesn't really do much to help the child and is really only going to cause more problems. They're old enough to play cod if they're 12.. it's not like this is manhunt.

This is why I don't play anything online. No surly 8-year-old brat or unemployed denizen of his mom's basement is going to fuck up my gaming experience. Nor am I going to be dependent on some guy I've never met in a town I've never heard of to complete a quest/mission, or put myself in a position where he's dependent on me. It's for my enjoyment, at my pace, on my time.

You're missing out, dude. Multiplayer beats single-player in re-playability by a mile. Playing with friends is much more fun than playing by yourself as well.

As far as OP goes, I agree. Don't let your kids play that shit online unless you're like Plow and know what the **** you're doing with the Xbox/PS3. I guarantee you 95% of the parents just go out and buy the console and the games having no idea what it's like online.

If you don't want your kids to hear about their mother's getting ass pounded by a gang of extraordinary gamers like myself then keep them off of these games you moron...

If you want your 12 year olds to game in the adult world then you'll have to deal with the "me's" of the world...

You can limit pretty much anything. You can block all communications (msg/voice) and just not give him a headset. You're right though, as a parent, you just got to stay on top of it.

Have them join scouts, play sports year round, play musical instuments, make sure they take advanced classes in school, and keep them in the gym from a young age.. They'll be fine. They'll test their limits (just like we did), but they'll do the right things..

My son plays football, the bass, and is in the math club. I don't think a little video game playing time is going to hurt if added to his list of activities.

Moderation is the key to almost everything. I do not sensor language or violence, however, I do sensor sex. My son has decided he wants to be a recon sniper, if he can play and learn, so be it.

Eh, you're pretty much ****ed as a parent these days no matter what you do.

You have to teach your children to watch out for predators as well. Teach them the game they play, what their ploys are, their strategy. That seems to help. My son is big with the internet, we have covered all the bases, but I watch him closely and monitor what sites he goes to. Plus, the computer stays where I can see it. I trust my son, I do not trust sites that are for kids.
