“Code red” could be coming for DeSean
Posted by Mike Florio on December 4, 2010,

Despite recent reports that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson has concerns about running shallow crossing patterns and/or returning punts due to his small frame and his history of concussions and his lack of a new contract, Jackson publicly has been saying all the right things.

And for good reason.

A league source tells us that veteran players on the Eagles were put off by the perception that Jackson lacked the courage to get hit, and that they have contemplated taking matters into their own hands.

The specific quote from the source, who requested anonymity: “Vets were going to give 10 a code red if he didn’t quit being a candy ass.”

We asked whether that feeling has dissipated in light of Jackson’s recent comments or whether the potential for a “code red” was still in play, and the source said that it’s still in play.

Though most have never heard the term “code red” beyond the opening and closing credits of 1992′s A Few Good Men, the phrase loosely means in this context that the veterans had planned to confront him about the situation, perhaps physically.

And while there’s no place for that kind of stuff in most modern workplaces, the NFL locker room in many respects is stuck in a time warp.

If you want a tiny man to go over the middle and take huge shots, don't draft him high.

I think a code red goes something like this:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OCLN4_57i-o?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OCLN4_57i-o?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Are they also upset that he doesn't play defensive tackle or throw touchdown passes for them?

Jackson's a deep threat and a guy blown apart only a couple of months ago. He's not a guy that's built to go over the middle with regularity and he will not last long in this league if they force him to do so.

Honestly - getting pissed because DeSean Jackson is a little hesitant over the middle is fucking ridiculous.

Kidding aside -- DeSean Jackson is a dynamic player. Teams have to account for him on the field -- Jackson makes big plays -- It's funny, I've never seen him slow up for a ball.

He has great chemistry with Vick -- Most of the time (I've noticed), Vick throws to him deep. Whenever those two are on the field, the Giants' plays a two or three-deep zone to help prevent the big play. It was the same when McNabb played his time in Philly.

Seems as if Jackson is struggling since sustaining a concussion in a violent hit with Dunta Robinson of the Falcons. It’s his second or third concussion over a short period of time, which may account for dropped balls.

One knock against Jackson -- He's not good in the red zone, which may have something to do with his size.

Jackson is the least of Reid's problems. The Eagles have at least four good receivers on the team. The problem the Eagles have seems to lie with the defense. The Eagles are one of the worst defensive red zone teams in the NFL.

Just my opinion.
