View Full Version : Chiefs Jamaal Charles now up to 6.4 YPC

He brought his average up from 6.1 to 6.4 with today's performance, which is at the moment the highest average in NFL history for a season with more than 120 carries (as far as I can tell).

He has 203 carries for 1,303 yards (wow!), averaging 6.41 ypc.

Jim Brown's best season in 1963, which was the single-season rushing record for a decade, involved 291 carries for 1,863 yards, averaging 6.40 ypc. (Recall that this was a 14-game season.)

Beattie Feathers averaged more than 8 yards per carry as a rookie in 1934, but there's some debate about how many yards he actually had, and he had fewer than 120 carries.

So...three cheers for Jamaal Charles!

Hip hip....hooray!

They put up a graphic today that said that Charles has the highest career ypc ever for a RB with a minimum of 400 carries.

He is awesome. Glad he is a Chief. He was cramping today. It must have been hotter than balls in there. Cassell was sweating like a pig.

Great game, Boys! Start of a long winning streak!

Amazing. I wish the debate would stop. I think if he got more carries he would eventually wear down or break down. The Chiefs utilize him perfectly.

Hes too small and injury prone to be that good

The fact that he signed on for the long term is great. The big danger (in my mind) was that he would understandably have enough ego to want to be the sole feature back somewhere where he could push for 2,000 yards. Apparently he's more of a team player than that.

For some reason I have a feeling he will get screwed and not make the squad which is a travesty when you consider he is having a historical season.

You can't, but you can only give him 11 carries.

Seriously, JC, MJD and Foster should be the AFC reps.

We'll see if that actually happens.

They need to ride Charles hard in the playoffs, especially early in games. I'm really tired of seeing Jones get 7 carries for 10 yards in the 1st quarter.

Charles has by far exceeded my expectations. He was good player at Texas, but I never thought he'd be the player that could potentially have the most average yards per carry in the history of the NFL. I doubt many believed it would happen, either.

I didn't predict how good he would be, but I saw very little difference between him and Darren McFadden coming out. McFadden is a little faster and a little bigger but not by much and Charles is more shifty and smarter IMO.

This especially. He is so patient. It's a little like watching Priest run except he has scary speed. I love it. Now that I know he's not going anywhere, he's next on my jerseys to buy list.

I posted this in the game thread. He had about six steps on the nearest defender and kept losing ground. Then he got pulled down awkwardly and immediately called for trainers.

Made my gut turn.

Charles "glides" when he runs. Very fluid - no wasted motion at all. He gets the most out of every stride. He was a football and a track star 2nd in college - not the other way around. He used what he learned running track to improve his football skills.
I saw him play a lot in HS - his running style has changed.

When you buy it, you should also have to buy a Thomas Jones jersey and wear it 50 percent of the time.

That is if he plays. Will be interesting to see Haley's take on this.

I would love to crush the Raiders, Finish 8-0 at home, 3-3 in the division and on a roll going into the playoffs but if JC, Cassel or one of the other studs has a freak injury you know we will all berate Haley till no end.
