View Full Version : Chiefs Are you happy with Ryan Succop?

Serious question.... Would you like to see him get replaced?

What if Nebraska's Alex Henery is available in rounds 5-6 would you want the Chiefs to draft him?

I understand Succop is still a young kicker in this league, but he's a kicker, probably the easiest position to replace. You don't see kickers like Henery come around very often. The guy has a fuckin boot cannon. And let's be honest here.....when KC lines up for a 45 yd FG how many people are biting at their nails hoping the FG doesn't sail left/right of the uprights?

Personally, I would love to draft him. He's used to kicking in this climate (not that its anything extreme like up in the northeast or Lambeau) and the guy more importantly can show he can consistently hit long range FG's.

I wouldn't replace him..I think he has done well..besides this offense is built to score TDs not kick field goals and we typically go for it within that range anyways so why waste a pick on a kicker?

I wouldn't replace him. At 45 yards no kicker is automatic - so yes I'm nervous. Succop has shown he's pretty game-tough, something the Nebraska guy may or may not be at the next level.

I would stick with Succop too.

As for any former bugeater that played for the Pelini Bros., you would think they would be completetly stone-cold or pull a Pyle from Full Metal Jacket when things got stressed.

Yeah with our penchant for going for it on fourth down, why bother drafting another kicker???

In rd's 5-6 I would like to see them add depth at thin positions or add some competition for starters, rather than replace a kicker who has been pretty solid for us.

KC still has holes to fill and depth to build before drafting a kicker.

runnercyclist

Yes. Very. He's young, accurate, makes tackles on returns, was Mr Irrelevant - which is cool, and his name is Succop!

And he's one of the right 53 for the AFC WEST CHAMPIONS!

Yes, and you know how the old saying goes, "If it isnt broke, then dont fix it". Ryan Succop has been a pretty good kicker for the Chiefs since he was drafted. He might not have the strongest leg, but he gets it done.

There is no need to even consider replacing him and like one guy said whenever it gets to be 45 + those are iffy field goals to nail. Succop has been good, no need to replace him.

He's a good kicker, and when he misses some FG's, I never get the impression it's because he's a headcase like I did with Tynes. I think he has the right mentality for the position.

The thing that bothers me the most about Succop is his lack of power on KICKOFF's. I swear the team starts at thier own 30 yard line almost every posession.... and that irks me. Alex Henery has an amazing touchback % that I would love to see the Chiefs pick up on late in the draft. Not only does he have a monster leg, the dude is an amazing field goal kicker.

I don't worry too much about Succops field goal attempts, but his kickoffs are just terrible.

succop isn't the best but he's pretty good. I don't know how much a kicker can work on his leg strength but if Succop can improve his kick strength a little bit more then he's fine.

another 5 yards on kickoffs(especially for cold weather)
another 2/3 yards on fieldgoals(especially for cold weather)

I like Succop. Generally I have confidence when he steps up to make the kick. He's level-headed and stays cool for a young kicker. His kickoffs could be better, but they're still pretty good. He has the ability to kick touchbacks , and when he doesn't it's usually long enough and high enough to give the coverage team time to contain the return.

Plus I hate to say goodbye to our only good draft pick from 2009. Also love that he was Mr. Irrelevant.

Rain Man
12-27-2010, 11:43 AM
I'm happy with Succop. That said, the truth about football is that no one's job is secure, so if a better kicker shows up, I'll be happier with him.

But the bottom line is that Succop has made the few pressure kicks that he's had to make, he seems to have good range, and he generally puts kickoffs on the goal line. Not much else we can ask for.

Kickers will let you down more often than not. I don't trust any of them. We have one, he's not terrible. I would take any resources that I thought about investing in a replacement for Succop and use them to improve another part of the team in order to decrease the chances that I would ever need to use Succop in a crucial situation.

Never trust a kicker.

I doubt that very seriously. Colquitt is the fucking MAN. It'd be really tough to cut him for a kicker/punter. Henery may have a stronger leg, maybe, but Colquitt can pin a man deep. Colquitt is proven to be a BAMF. He'd be pretty tough to cut IMO.

You guys are bitching about four missed kicks. No one can legit bitch about misses over 50 yards.

So we're bitching about 4 missed kicks.

One of those was a 48-yarder that fell short because the ball was like a brick. (yesterday)

Another one was a blocked kick in Seattle.

Eh, not really bitching....I wouldn't mind keeping Succop at all really...he's a good young kicker.

But kickers like Henery don't come around very often. He's the best I've seen in a long time, AND he can punt (I know Colquitt is our punter, but if he gets hurt this prevents KC from having to sign a punter off the streets) Drafting him with a 6th rd pick wouldn't exactly be a stupid thing....considering he'd be more productive than any other player we'd draft in the 6th rd (more than likely).
