I know there's only a few of us in STL, but I hope all of you guys are OK.

We had a helluva tornado rip through parts of the metro area this afternoon.

Massive destruction in the suburbs of Fenton and Sunset Hills, among others. Both are less than 5 minutes from my house - and we weren't touched. Winds never even got really bad.

Hope those of you in the area and central Missouri, which apparently also got hit very hard are OK.

Death Count From New Year's Eve Tornadoes Hits 6

New Year's Eve tornado outbreak kills at 6 in Arkansas and Missouri; storms could spread

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. December 31, 2010 (AP)

Authorities say a third person has been killed in
Missouri by a powerful storm system that spawned
several tornadoes and claimed at least three lives in
Arkansas.

Phelps County Emergency Management Director Sandy
North says the woman was killed Friday morning
when her home about a mile north of Rolla was
destroyed by the storm. North says six others were
injured in the county, including one critically. She
says about 20 homes have been destroyed or
seriously damaged.

North says power lines are down throughout the area
and hundreds of trees have been uprooted.

Tornadoes from the storm killed three people in the
Arkansas hamlet of Cincinnati, near the Oklahoma
border. A possible tornado also downed trees and
power lines in central Illinois on Friday.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon
for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

Kansas City, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say a second
resident of a southeast Missouri mobile home
destroyed by a powerful storm system that spawned
tornadoes has died.

Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings says the second
woman killed during the Friday storm was related to
the first. He says their home was one of three mobile
homes and a barn that were leveled by the storm.

One of the women died at the scene and the second
died later at a hospital.

Tornadoes from the same storm system killed three
people in the northwest Arkansas hamlet of
Cincinnati. There were many injuries reported there
as well.

Note to self:

Don't ever live in a mobile home. Death is imminent.

Yep. Our house is on the western edge of Fayetteville and the twister went thru Cincinatti, AR(about 20 miles from here) today at 6:13 am and killed 3 people. We woke up to a power outage but had no idea a tornado had been that close.

Jackson, Mississippi under a tornado emergency. Apparently a large and violent tornado is headed right through the city.

Prayers for everyone in the paths of these storms.
