RedNeckRaider,

But at some point, we all figure out how it works -- Junior led 17/18 laps around the track before Harvick made his winning pass with four to go. What good would've it done to get Harvick loose? Harvick's super fast car would've found his way to the front when it counted the most - when he crossed the checkered flag. You can't beat speed.

And please don't dismiss the Chase. Junior gains more points coming in second than ending up mowing the lawn. NASCAR drivers won't intentionally take another driver because they could loose points.

Please understand there are two types of NASCAR search history - Pre-Chase and Chase.

The Chase ruined NASCAR - It is boring.

Yours truly,

Longtime NASCRAP fan http://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-14836.gif

Dylan
He makes that move he is not mowing grass if Harvick caught him again he concedes the pass and a third place is worst case. Also they were "points" racing before the chase. I must admit the "please understand" line made me chuckle...I will try and keep up lol~

hi, who's your favorite driver?

Surprisingly not Clint Bowyer. Although he is an up and comer. It's probably Mark Martin cuz he's in the same generation as me. I just like to watch the races, and I have different favorites at different tracks. Kasey Kahne is my personal hottie er I mean fave but I do like Kurt (NOT Kyle) Busch although Kyle seems to have mellowed this year. It's been a fun season so far!

RedNeckRaider:

Thanks for the debate...

The bump and run changed with the new Car of Tomorrow. "The rear bumpers on the new cars have been lowered, while the front bumper has been raised. When a trailing car hits a car in the back now, the contact is square, and the leading car isn't lifted off the track." In addition, "The moment you are hit, you don't actually know whether it's going to be a nudge or a disaster."

"The France Family’s Martinsville “paperclip” is really more in the mold of a traditional short track. It’s flat. That means don’t gas on it in to the turns…gas on it out of the turns. Brake gently in and speed up out. Pretty simple. Except when you give it a bit too much into the turns, those walls will suck you in. You can bump, but you can’t run far."

Were the people who said that Dale Jr. laid down at Martinsville watching the same race I was? Seriously? Because I didn’t see a driver lay down. I saw a driver do everything he could to win a race and come up short to superior equipment. I saw a driver in his postrace interview who was disappointed in second place. He knew second place is the first loser-it was written all over his face. But the closing laps were certainly not driven by a driver who didn’t care. Earnhardt was able to get to Kyle Busch late and put the bumper to him to move Busch out of the groove and take the lead.

I can’t imagine that they didn’t show the battle on TV, but it was abundantly clear from the press box that Earnhardt tried to get back to Harvick to complete the slide job via a bump and run, but just didn’t have the car to do it. He was able to get to Harvick’s bumper in turn 2, but Harvick’s car was fast enough that Earnhardt simply couldn’t hit him hard enough to make the bump and run stick. Could Earnhardt have resorted to dirty driving to get the win? Maybe, if he’d been able to outjump Harvick into Turn 1, get the nose of his car in and put Harvick in the wall.

I believe this video proves the reporter's point:

why is Gordon doing so poorly tonight?

Gordon switched crew chiefs (Steve Letarte) with Junior this year. Their chemistry wasn't right.

Also, Junior is driving Jeff's cars from last season.

Alan Gustafon (sp) was the chief chief for the #5 car when Kyle drove for Hendricks -- I believe Alan was Mark Martin's CC last year....

I was pretty sure that is what you were alluding to, but in a nutshell (for some reason I read the first 1000 posts yesterday) he was given a temp (7-day) ban after someone reported him (apparently not anywhere near the first time) for word filter evasion (IE typing NASC*R rather than NASCAR so that the word filter doesn't catch it if NASCAR were filtered out). Then the poster who reported it came back and said for all intents and purposes, "take it back, I didn't mean it" so they unbanned him and then his very first post back was something to the extent of FUCK THE MODS in a picture, but with an asterisk in place of the U (the same thing he had been banned for) so Phobia gave him a 30-day vacation.
I haven't bothered to read the rest of it as I actually have some work to do at work today, but I'm sure it's all pretty much the same nonsense as teh first 1,000 posts. It doesn't really effect me one way or the other though as I don't see it as a huge loss.

You can still say whatever you want to and if folks don't want to see it they can set the filter where curse words (or anything else they desire) will show up as asterisks.

Randy Moss loving the NASCAR life

ESPN: Ryan McGee

These are rough times at Randy Moss Motorsports.

The offseason was marked with a bit of an ugly divorce from driver Mike Skinner, who had led the team to a third-place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standings in 2009. Like most teams in the series, Moss is struggling to rustle up sponsorship and just this week the team shut down one of its two trucks. After failing to qualify for the season's first two events, youngster Tayler Malsam is gone, leaving former series champ Travis Kvapil, who also has a Sprint Cup job, to carry the RMM banner alone.

But Moss, as usual, is all smiles, particularly when he makes it out to the racetrack to check on his team, which he has co-owned with longtime series owner David Dollar since mid-2008. I caught up with the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver two weeks ago at Darlington Raceway.

Little more than an hour before the green flag dropped on the most recent Truck Series event, he stretched out in the RMM hauler, dressed in a colorful polo shirt and jeans. It was also less than 24 hours after the start of the NFL lockout, so the free agent quickly laid down the ground rules.

Ryan McGee: So, no football talk …
Randy Moss: Yeah, I'd appreciate that. When I come out here to the racetrack, it's all about getting away from football for me. Right now, especially. Everything is so crazy. I'm a free agent right now. I guess everybody is. I'm a wanted man, so we just need to see who wants me. Right now, nobody wants anybody, so we have to get all that worked out.
But yeah, I'd rather talk about racing right now.

McGee: Fair enough. You bought into this team back in 2008. You're coming up on three years in the sport. At the announcement that year, you told us you were serious about it. But did you feel like people were rolling their eyes at you?
Moss: Oh yeah, definitely. Not even so much here at the track than in the locker room. Guys were like, "NASCAR? Really, dude?" But now here we are sitting up in the team's 18-wheeler, got some wins under our belt and I'm still here. It's like, "See y'all, I was serious about this."

McGee: We've had three races this year and you've already been to two of them, Daytona and here at Darlington. Easily the most we've seen you at the racetrack so soon. Am I reading too much into this?
Moss: No, I see where you're going, and you're right. I think you might see more of me out here this year, and not just because of what's going on in the NFL. My schedule has always been so crazy that I couldn't get out here very much. But now I want to, especially where its low-key like it is here at Darlington. Right now, I think it's good for me to be here, to show the guys some support. Especially right now.

McGee: Because it's been a rough year?
Moss: Not rough. Just not as successful as we want it to be. I think it boosts morale with the guys when I come and hang out. I'm not coming in here to tell David [Dollar] how to run things or tell the pit crew how to go over the wall or tell Travis Kvapil how to drive. And I'm not huddling anybody up and giving pep talks. But I think I can get everybody pumped up just by being here and being one of the guys.

McGee: Have you gotten involved in the business side, past being an investor? For example, during these lean economic times, would you leverage your name to track down sponsorship money?
Moss: I haven't done that. I trust David to do that. But if he feels like bringing me to shake a hand would help, then he knows he can call me.

McGee: You ever get behind the wheel of a race car?
Moss: Hell no! And I won't be doing it, either. People ask me all the time if I think race car drivers are athletes. Of course they are. I can't do it. I love it. But I can't do it. And I feel like I'm a pretty good athlete [laughs].

McGee: You know, I just did a story about all these former college athletes that are on pit crews now …
Moss: Exactly. You've got to be the real deal to go over that wall. But again, there's no way I'm doing it. I like my spot during the race sitting on this side of that wall, thank you very much. These guys aren't going to be showing up at my work, on the field and start running pass routes. I'm not coming to their place of work and start doing their thing.

McGee: There have been a lot of connections between the NFL and NASCAR on the ownership side. Before you, guys like Joe Washington and Brett Favre had stakes in lower-level teams. Tim Brown has tried for years. Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach and of course Joe Gibbs. Did you ever talk to any of them before you got into this?
Moss: Not really. Some chats here and there. But I did look at what they had done. Especially Coach Gibbs. And I think that having watched what they did and what Coach Gibbs is still doing helped educate me. When I first sat down with David in Atlanta way back when, I think he realized pretty quick that I wasn't just winging this. I knew what I was talking about. It's not like I hadn't ever even paid attention to NASCAR before.

McGee: So, you're a race fan.
Moss: Always have been, man. I'm from West Virginia. If you didn't know what was happening in NASCAR, you were on the outside. NASCAR is a big league sport, but it's still also country and redneck. Like here at Darlington or at Martinsville, where we're about to go. These are my people, man. Call me a redneck, blackneck, whatever. I'm as comfortable here as I am on the football field.

McGee: As a fan, who do you like to watch on the track?
Moss: Kyle Busch, man. That guy is … you know, you have your guys that have all the stats and have won championships and whatever, but then you have your guys where you are just like, "That damn guy can flat drive the hell out of a racecar!" Kyle Busch is that guy for me.

McGee: There are those who would point to Busch's raw talent and some of his troubles with other people and …
Moss: Yeah, I know what you're about to say. That's Moss, man. That's totally Moss.

McGee: So, are you naturally attracted to athletes in other sports who remind you of you?
Moss: I guess I am. Because you know who else I like? Tony Stewart. I love that guy. I was in Charlotte one day and I saw him in his car. He had stopped at an intersection, and I went over and knocked on his window. I was all like, "Tony! It's Randy Moss, New England Patriots!" But I think all he saw was a giant black dude running across the street yelling at him, banging on the glass, so he got the hell out of there. I don't blame him.

McGee: [Pointing to Kvapil, standing about 10 feet away] I'm assuming you like this driver, too.
Moss: [Speaks up loud enough to be heard] Yeah, he's alright! [Laughs.] He's a champion, you know. Even if he's a Packers fan. He's still mad at me about the whole Green Bay mooning thing when I was with the Vikings. I gave him my Super Bowl tickets this year, though, and he got to see them win it. So I think we're all even now.

McGee: [To Kvapil] All even?
Kvapil: Yeah. But I still want to see him play for Green Bay.
McGee: [To Moss] Well?
Moss: I want to play wherever they want me to play. Like I said, I'm a free agent. I know I'm 34. I know I didn't have a great season last year. But I also know that these still work [holds up his hands] and I know I can still play at a high level. We just need to get this season back on track so I can start working on finding that team that wants Randy Moss on their roster.

McGee: Uh oh … we're talking about football.
Moss: See? People always say that Randy Moss can't stick to the rules. Even my own rules.

NASCAR chairman Brian France the drunk: This man has no shame

NASCAR Can Do Without Foster Gillett

It's difficult to tell why so many seem so consumed with the idea of Kimi Raikkonen trying his hand at NASCAR. The 2007 Formula One driving champion has announced plans to tackle the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series beginning next month at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driving a limited schedule of events for the new ICE1 Racing Team. His self-professed plans call for a quick progression to Sprint Cup competition by the end of the year, though that itinerary could be pushed back once he actually straps into a NASCAR machine for the first time.

Maybe the fascination is not with Kimi, after all. Perhaps the hubbub is really about the man Raikkonen threatens to bring with him as majority owner of ICE1 Racing, Foster Gillett.

You remember Gillett, the 190-pound silver spoon who carried water for his father, George, while they laid waste to the once-proud franchises known as Evernham Motorsports and Richard Petty Motorsports. After arriving in an explosion of hype and grandiose promises, the Gilletts proceeded to run Ray Evernham out of his own building and reduce Richard Petty from "King of Stock Car Racing" to "impotent ceremonial figurehead" in a matter of a few short months. Over-leveraged and overhyped, the Gilletts became a NASCAR version of Smokey and the Bandit's Big and Little Enos; bulling their way through a series of horrible decisions that left a wide swath of unpaid bills and broken promises in their wake.

Until recently, it appeared the Gilletts would join J.D. Stacy, Bobby Ginn, Alex Meshkin and Michael Holigan on the short list of the sport's all-time most inept owners, until reports surfaced this week that "Little Enos" is apparently game for another crack at NASCAR team ownership.

"Kimi Raikkonen must not be as smart as people say he is," said Evernham when told of the plan this week. "I can't imagine anyone doing business with them, considering (Gillett's) past history. There are a lot of people out there who are still owed a lot of money. It's a joke."

Evernham said he makes "absolutely no distinction" between George and Foster Gillett, saying both men "sat in all the meetings and made the decisions. One is as responsible as the other," said Evernham, for their mountain of unpaid bills and laid off former employees.

Foster Gillett's return to NASCAR -- if it happens -- is like John Dillinger dropping by the bank a day after the heist to ask if he qualifies for a free toaster, and anyone who deals with ICE1 Racing on anything but a cash-in-advance basis deserves the screwing they will almost certainly receive.

I was at Stafford Springs watching the Bodine and Bouchard brothers run when you you were still a gleam in your daddy's eye. I met Bugsy Stevens.

I was spinnin tire wear and siftin oil pans on NASCAR modified cars while you were still wondering if Ms. Smith was giving out gold stars for spelling.

If Earnhardt doesn't win, we may see the entire state of Alabama riot.

Dega is scary to watch -- 200 mph -- cars inches apart -- at the mercy of another driver -- and we're on the edge of our seats, waiting for "The Big One"

Thank God, through all that carnage -- cars airborne -- tumbling and breaking apart -- everyone seems to survive unscathed... total craziness

OK, Dylan told me to share this. here it is. from my pm
Some history, I used to work for a nascar modified team when I was in HS. Basically cuz of my dad. He was this master mechanic. Goeff Bodine, Bugsy, Ronny Bouchard, they all hanged with him. Everyone knew my dad. So I got to paint headers, stripe tires, check oil pans, etc for a team driven by Joe Becker. His sons played ball. Randy was a FA with the Cowboys. Todd died falling out a window at Pitt where he was starting as a LB as a sophmore.

Anyway, our team was the second ever team to put Goeffs steering system in our car after Goeff himself. the car handled like a dream. But it was nadless. My dad pleaded with Bill (the team owner) to drop a 350 four bolt small block to replace the 327, but he wouldn't, so my dad walked. I miss working a team to this day.

Then the poster who reported it came back and said for all intents and purposes, "take it back, I didn't mean it" so they unbanned him and then his very first post back was something to the extent of **** THE MODS in a picture, but with an asterisk in place of the U (the same thing he had been banned for) so Phobia gave him a 30-day vacation.

Phob should just stay away from that, he and Clay have personal issues so no matter if he is right or wrong, it will come out looking shady. I guess we have a shit ton of Mods now, just defer it to someone else....save a lot of BS from the board.

Excerpt: CUP: Earnhardt Jr. Gets Things Off His Chest

Hendrick driver says two-car drafting is a bad thing…

Earnhardt Jr.’s view on the two-car tandem drafting that dominated the Daytona 500 and is likely to dominate Sunday’s race here.

In brief, he hates it.

“I’m hoping this kind of racing goes away fast so we don’t have to talk about this no more,” he said. “It’s a mess. This is a bunch of crap.”

He was just getting warmed up.

“I mean everybody thinks it is cool now because it’s new and it’s neat and ‘Wow, what is going on?’ Everybody is getting a big kick out of it. Over the long haul, man, it’s not the best.

“It is not as good as 40 dudes in one pack racing like hell trying to get to the front. It is nowhere near as good as that. Give me that any day over this. Over the long haul, people will realize it and go, ‘Yeah, OK.’

“The novelty of this – once the new of all this wears off, how interesting this is and how unique it is wears off, I think that people will start to see.”

So, should NASCAR approach Daytona and Talladega rules differently?

“I think NASCAR is doing what they think is right, and I don’t want to say what they are doing is wrong, because I don’t know,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I don’t know whether I’m right or wrong. I just know what I prefer, what I like. It’s my opinion. I’m entitled to one. Everybody’s got one. I don't know what’s right or wrong."
