My Firefox is all jacked up. The back and forward buttons no longer work, the history doesn't work, and the bookmarks are all gone. Also it will not let me add new bookmarks, nor does it recognize previously typed in web addresses in the browser.

I've been looking all over google and found a lot of so-called solutions but they either don't work or are a little over my head in their computer nerdiness. Can anybody tell me in semi-layman's terms how to fix this?

I assume you're using 3.6?

Upgrade (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/).

heh, I was just going to say, anytime I've had issues like this, it's been right AFTER I upgraded it.

first try the update per Bearcat and if that doesn't work then try the loochy method

don't forget to export bookmarks AND don't forget to choose to delete all your personal setting when you uninstall. I might even delete the firefox folder just for good measurement. Firefox is a quick download/install ... no reason to not just shred it and start over.

The real bummer would be if the corruption isn't with the browser software, it's just where you are 'seeing' it the results.

Thanks so much! Everything works fine now.

I upgraded from 3.5 to 3.6 the other day I think, and that's when everything screwed up. The 4.0 fixed everything though.

Thanks again.

No reason to use FF anymore, IMO.

Chrome is vastly superior.

Give me one reason to use Firefox.mozilla did screwed up the flash in firefox but the flexibility and custom ability of firefox is so superior to chrome.

Chrome is barebone fast ... that's about it.

FfvB is a great vBulletin Management tool I use with Firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ffvb-vbulletin-management-for-/

Is this available on chrome?

Chrome Addon: AdSweep a Chrome ad blocker (http://www.mychromeaddons.com/chrome-addon-adsweep-a-chrome-ad-blocker/)

Installation

If you want to install AdSweep in Chrome, create the <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">C:\scripts</tt> directory, extract <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">AdSweep.zip</tt> and place the <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">AdSweep.user.js</tt> file into <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">C:\scripts</tt> then right-click the shortcut icon of Google Chrome, either on your desktop or in your Start menu, and click “Properties”. Select the second tab named “Shortcut”, and in the “Target” field, append <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">--enable-greasemonkey</tt> with a space inbetween. For instance:
Before: <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe</tt>
After: <tt style="font: 1em/1.5 'andale mono','lucida console',monospace;">C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --enable-greasemonkey</tt>
Don’t forget the space in between. Click “OK” to save changes.

When you’re done, close your browser, reopen it and access www.adsweep.org, you should see a red notification in the upper-right corner of the page (only displayed on www.adsweep.org), saying AdSweep is installed.
------------------------------------------------

If you wanna install noscript on firefox, you go to mozilla site and click 'install'

That sounds like bullshit to me. Every chrome extension I've installed I went to the page and clicked install.

And it's the same for adsweep:

https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/milkhonmecplandlkfbjplfbdenjlkmp

And I don't have to restart Chrome, either.

CHROME WINS!

Sadly there is no FFvB for Chrome, but I'll take speed over that any day.

I used that for a while and ended up removing it. It's good in theory, but it's not like it makes the dumbasses go away. When a dipshit you have on super-iggy starts posting repeatedly on a thread it still becomes unreadable.

is it still a pain in the ass to even customize the toolbars etc on chrome?

Yeah yeah, I got your message. The best thing for you to do is remove it and reinstall it.

Never heard of that happening, but 4 beta has been out a while... guess I should have mentioned that a few add-ons might not work yet. I miss ffvb. :(
