Any chance we can all chill out with the Israel/Palestine stuff that's been going on in this forum in recent weeks?

There's been like two or three big news stories on the topic recently, including a fascinating WikiLeaks memo. But I hesitate to even bring some of that stuff to discussion around here like I do on other forums because the conversation here gets hyperbolic really quickly.

People who believe Israel is largely in the right are accosted by some of the conspiracy-crazy assholes around here who don't make any sense, and are often branded as racist and anti-Muslim, when that's rarely if ever the case. And the folks who frequently argue that Israel is in the wrong are labeled as anti-Semites who want to see Israel slowly deteriorate into nothing and/or support terrorism.

I'm wondering if it's possible we take the temperature down on this particular subject, as I think it's unnecessary and it just stunts useful conversation. If it's not, I'll be quiet. But I was just hoping.

Any and all thoughts welcome.

We know the US gives billions every year to Israel, billions in weapons and money.

Tell us, pat, what has Israel ever done for the US, besides...

lying to us about shooting first in 1967
being one of three countries to invade and occupy since 1930, the other two being Saddam's Iraq and Hitler
"Accidently" offing 30 crewmembers of the USS Liberty
repeatedly being busted for selling our military secrets to the Chinese
lying to us so many times about those settlements it is hard to count them all, even hard for just Jim Baker to count all from 1988-1992

In seriousness, I don't see any reason not to post something and see what happens. If it devolves into a mudfight, as this topic is likely to do as long as LaDairis is on the prowl for Jew sympathizers, so what? You can still say your piece and ignore the clutter if you want.

lying to us about shooting first in 1967

You're the only person I know who thinks this. As far as I know, the reality is that it was obvious from the moment it happened that Israel shot first. When did they ever lie about it?

I don't mind Israel....hell with as much money as we send them (along with soo many others), I think we should have contracted them to fight everyone of our wars over there. The middle east likes our money but in all reality hates us anyway and they would have done the job right! None of this worried about peoples civil liberties BS.

Or if most of your neighbors want to see you destroyed. I have no illusions about Isreal being saints living amunst sinners, I'm sure their hands are just as dirty as their neighbors. But that said, being where they are, I can certainly understand why they would adopt that mentality.

Right or wrong.

1. no country from the ME has attacked us other than Israel's "accidental" attack on the USS Liberty
2. while we foolishly gave dictators in those countries money, it pales to what we give Israel. We gave Israel their military. We don't give a cent to most of Israel's enemies... see OWNED in DC by MONEY and MEDIA COVERAGE...

Ever been to Israel? How about the Palestinian "terror"tories? Driven the Golan Heights? Have you seen the villiages along the Lebanese border where terrorists used to camp out then come over the border and attack?

It's easy to condemn Israel over here for being a little too trigger happy, spend some time over there and see if maybe your forums and secret sources of info might just be a little off base. :thumb:

If Mexico or Canada treated us like Israel's neighbors (well, not all, Egypt has cooled way down) we'd have a different relationship with them too.

Because I can say my piece on any number of forums.

I'm just asking for a conversation. And when discussions boil down to who's racist and who isn't, and who really wants to see Israel destroyed, that's not a conversation as much as it is pure bullshit that doesn't interest me.

Like I said, I'll shut up if that's the direction it has to go. But I like ChiefsPlanet so I had to ask.

Obamas anti Israel stand is more and more clear.

In all honesty, it was one of the more predictable things about candidate Obama. He was surrounded by foreign policy advisors with a history of antagonism toward Israel like Susan Rice and Robert Malley.

Here's a long but thorough article about it that appeared just before his inauguration in American Thinker:

Barack Obama and Israel (http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/01/barack_obama_and_israel.html)
By Ed Lasky

The ascent of Barack Obama from state senator in Illinois to a leading contender for the Presidential nomination in the span of just a few years is remarkable. Especially in light of a noticeably unremarkable record -- a near-blank slate of few accomplishments and numerous missed votes.

However, in one area of foreign policy that concerns millions of Americans, he does have a record and it is a particularly troubling one. For all supporters of the America-Israel relationship there is enough information beyond the glare of the klieg lights to give one pause. In contrast to his canned speeches filled with "poetry" and uplifting aphorisms and delivered in a commanding way, behind the campaign façade lies a disquieting pattern of behavior.

It was at the end of September 1937 that Adolf Eichmann and Herbert Hagen, two Nazi SS-officers from Berlin, boarded a Rumanian steamship in the Rumanian port of Constanza. It was the beginning of a remarkable trip to the Middle East. And it was also just two years before the outbreak of the Second World War during which the same Adolf Eichmann would play a key role in the so-called "Final Solution of the Jewish Question," a Nazi term for killing six million European Jews, also known as the Shoah or the Holocaust.

On November 4, 1939, SS-Hauptscharfuehrer (master sergeant) Eichmann and his boss SS-Oberscharfuehrer Hagen reported to their superiors in Berlin. Their nearly 60-page report is very interesting. It showed that both SS-officers espoused the Palestinian Arab cause. By that time "Palestine" was a British mandate. Militant Palestinian Arabs revolted against British rule and growing Jewish immigration. Their leader was a notorious Jew-hater named Haj Mohammed Amin Al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. Al-Husseini strongly admired Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
