Chiefs Reportedly Interview Nose Tackle Prospect At The 2011 NFL Combine

by Chris Thorman on Feb 27, 2011
7:52 AM PST in 2011 NFL Combine

We've got another 2011 NFL Combine interview to add to the list: Mississippi NT Jerrell Powe. According to former Northwestern football player Andrew Struckmeyer reporting from Indy, Powe has met with the Chiefs, Ravens and Broncos. Upcoming meetings are scheduled with the Dolphins and Raiders.

According to NFL Draft Scout, Powe is the 11th best defensive tackle in the 2011 NFL Draft. He's a big player too - 6'2" and 330 pounds. Powe started 12 games at nose tackle for the Rebels in 2010, amassing 27 tackles (8.5 for a loss) and 2.5 sacks. He is projected to go in the third round of the draft.

Powe was also selected by his teammates as the Rebels' 2010 team captain.

This won't be the last nose tackle prospect we'll hear about. The Chiefs, like virtually every team that employs a 3-4 defense, will always be looking at nose tackles.

The full Chiefs draft interest chart is after the jump.

I think he goes in the second, though.

This is based on nothing but gut feeling:

TyJax will have a break out year in 2011. Pro Bowl candidate type of year.

I'd take him with a high 2nd.

Not that we have one or will move, at all, ever, with Pioli, but it's nice to dream...

Great. Need a veteran NT too, and we'll be in good shape. Sign Shaun Rogers and rotate in a Powe/Taylor draftee.

(Remember rookie d-linemen aren't usually a force).

Why do we need Shaun Rodgers? Signing Ron Edwards is #1 priority. I just read that here a couple minutes ago.

I just hope it's not either/or ... If we sign Rogers we don't draft Power.

Speaking of young guys, what's the outlook on Toribio?

Yeah, let's cut a first round D-lineman before his third season, when it usually takes one three seaosns to develop. Pioli should use you as advisor.

Doubt he goes in the first after his Senior Bowl injury.

I'd take Liuget in the first or Powe/Fua in the third.

KCChiefs.com, Josh Looney talks with Ross Homan LB Ohio st & Jarvis Jenkins DT Clemson. I'm not a Buckeyes fan but they have produced good LBs & we could use a guy like him.

Also press with Pioli talking what he looks for in QB.

I think we are going to draft a QB at some point in the draft, hope so, I can feel it in my bones.
