According to the Taco Bell Facebook page: This week only, get a Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme at participating Taco Bell locations for just 88 cents. No coupon required. Limit 2 per person per visit. This deal expires on March 5, 2011.

NOTE: Apparently, some managers of the Kansas City area Taco Bell restaurants are saying this deal is next week, so you may want to print their Facebook page and take it with you. BTW, the Taco Bell at 96th and Metcalf is not participating.

Maybe you should have stated, which one has better value? Taco Bell is good considering the price, but is in no way shape or form better than Chipotle.

But on the other hand Chipotle is more expensive. Therefore, which has better value? 4 average burritos for 5 bucks, or 1 great burrito for 5 bucks....

lol...couple of years ago a buddy of mine won a gift card at an event. A mutual buddy gave him his "prize". It was the top half of a $75 Dick's gift card (the part you break off after you buy it). Mark went to the store, ad picked out some new golf shoes. The cashier broke the news and he was too embarrassed to admit it, so he just bought them.

Chipotle is some bland shit, imo but I don't really care for most Fast Food places anymore, (which has contributed to me going from 235 to 193). Taco Bell has a lot of things going for it though:
1. Open late for the drunks/stoners.
2. Cheap filling food.
3. You can still order the same crap that tastes exactly the same as it did in 1990.

But if I had to pick one, I guess Chipotle has fresher ingredients.

This is fairly off-topic, but I'm probably the only person in the world who would rather have Qdoba than Chipotle. It's not as greasy as people say. The franchise I eat at is, in fact, way less greasy than the Chipotle in town. Additionally, Chipotle doesn't have a queso option on their burritos.

Fuck that. Get a queso recipe and put it on your shit.

I too prefer Qdoba over Chipotle. I can't say precisely why, but there's some texture in Chipotle that doesn't match up to Qdoba. It has nothing to do with taste, but Qdoba somehow offers a better chewing experience.

That is brilliant. I hate chipotle chips. Wayyyyyy to salty.

it's something I always do at Mexican restaurants...they usually give you a hot (thin) and a mild (thick)...mix both, add salt and some hot sauce...and you usually produce a vastly superior salsa...

at Chipotle I started with the hot and mild mix...it was good, not great...but definitely good..

then one day I felt frisky and asked for all 3 (they do get slightly annoyed but I always offer to pay an upcharge but they never charge so I just leave a $1 tip)

dude...AMAZING

I let some people from my work try it the other day...they were like "where did you get that from!?!?"

it's amazing...lately I've been going just for chips and salsa (don't have to wait in line) and I can't get enough...I'll order 3 orders at a time (and 9 salsas so they get REALLY annoyed)...

but I've always been a big chips and salsa fan

Chipotle likes to use lime in a lot of things...

the rice has a bunch of lime juice in it...

and the chips have lime on them for sure...

I also handle spicy food really well...

so the Chipotle-way South Park episode never really applies to me...I have a really strong stomach...

I make $10 every time I do this...

but when we're bored at work people don't believe me that I will chug a whole bottle of Tabasco (so much vinegar it makes me a little sick)...so I tell them I'll do it for $10...

they all pool together a couple of dollars and 4 or 5 times now I've downed a bottle of Tabasco (like a shot) with no chaser for 10 minutes.

no ulcers or terrible shits to this date yet

I think I could down a whole bottle of Franks easier than Tabasco...too vinegary...don't really like the taste so much

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.walletpop.com/media/2008/09/overrated-chipotle-200cs090308.jpgI know that some of my fellow bloggers over on BloggingStocks love Chipotle as a stock (http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/06/28/the-next-mcdonalds-is-chipotle-mexican-grill/), salivating at its growth potentional. However, here I'm writing about the food and presentation and ambience of the Chipotle experience, and frankly, I think it's very overrated.
I'll start with the ambience. Eating in a Chipotle is like grabbing lunch in a high school metal shop. The hard surfaces creates an echo chamber that makes table talk a hearing test. The chairs and tables, welded into place like a bus station cafeteria, are not conducive to fine dining. I suspect these attributes are all designed to keep the dining room turning over.
The food speaks well to the American penchant for huge portions of carbohydrates. The burrito, for example, brings three carbs together -- a shell of wheat stuffed with rice and beans. Add the meat of your choice (plop), salsa (plop), sour cream (plop), guacamole (plop) cheese (sprinkle) and lettuce (sprinkle), and you have a meal all wrapped up in a burrito the size of a bed and breakfast pillow.
<style type="text/css">.textborder { border: 1px solid black; padding: 2px; }</style>Don't miss the rest of our series on Overrated people, places and things (http://www.walletpop.com/specials/overrated-in-america)!
So what do we have in this burrito, the ordinary lunch of Chipotle customers? We have 1,250 calories (http://www.chipotle.com/ChipotleNutrition.pdf) with 51 grams of fat. (A full stick of butter has only 91 grams of fat). You could have a Big Mac and fries (http://nutrition.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal/nutrition_facts.html) and still consume almost 500 calories less.
I don't quibble that Chipotle's burritos are tasty, and of course a savvy diner could lower the calorie count by choosing options such as the Burrito Bowl. However, the menu is extremely limited; after a dozen meals there, I'm bored with the same old same old.
The price point is a 'tweener, too; not as cheap as Taco Bell, not as nice as a sit-down Mexican Restaurant where they wait on tables. Without a drive-up window, I see this chain as limited in a number of ways. But now Chipotle says it may raise prices (http://www.walletpop.com/article/_a/bbdp/chipotle-may-raise-prices-to-combat/172098), so that equation may change for the worse.

Lacking ambience, variety, or exceptional value, I think Chipotle is valarado excesivamente.

I don't know how anyone thinks it is expensive...

I pay $6.50 for a chicken fajita burrito (after tax) and it fills me up better than any extra value meal I could buy...and it tastes as good as any sandwich I'd get at any chain restaurant for half the price

I don't get that either. $6.50 is a reasonably cheap lunch option.

I don't mind Qdoba at all. As you said, their queso is awesome, and they have more variety in actual entrees as well.

Illegal Pete's is easily my favorite of these types of places in the Denver area. They have a little more variety and pretty much all of the ingredients are better.

Taco Bell for me. Of course it's nothing more than McMexican, but who cares? It's cheap, tasty and consistent.

I've never understood the fascination with Chipotle. I've eaten there twice, both times the food was average at best, especially considering how people rave about it. Seems to have been successfully implanted in national yuppie programming. They can fucking have it.

If I want authentic Mexican food, there are far better places to go.

But Chipotle isn't about eating "Mexican." Chipotle is about eating a delicious burrito made out of real food ingredients (not preserved frozen pre-formed stuff) that you customize. I don't consider it Mexican at all.

BTW does anyone go to Freebirds? They are like Chipotle, but they have about 2 times the choice of toppings, fillings, rice, beans, and tortillas. Edit: Nevermind. I see that Freebirds is a Texas and California only chain.

Yeah, it's like marinated grilled pork that is then pulled. I usually don't get the tortilla though. I just do it in a bowl. The tortilla doesn't add much for me.

Wow, I just did a google and I see that Taco Bell DOES have carnitas. Hmm.

The tortilla was the worst thing about Chipotle. Way too doughy, tasted like cardboard. The cheapy shit they sell in the Mexican section of the grocery store is better.

I wish chipotle would automatically mix up the innards of their burritos. I love them, but hate it when I get a bite that is all tortilla and rice, I want a mix of rice and the other stuff. I've seen people ask for them to mix things up before they wrap it, but the worker always seems peeved at being asked to do so, so I've always just left it as is (still damn good) and try to aim my bites well.

I've always loved that particular burger - it's been my favorite for years. Even a crappy one is better than anything from anybody else, IMO.

I'm sure absence makes the heart grow fonder, but every time I travel somewhere that has a Hardees I'm all over it. There used to be a handful of Hardees in the Chicago area, but they all closed years ago. The nearest one that I know of is in Racine Wisconsin, and that's a long way from the western suburbs.

McDonalds now has a mushroom and swiss which isn't bad, but it's got mayo instead of the gravy and it's just not the same.

Every Baja Fresh in Los Angeles is packed from opening to close. It's far superior to Chipotle in every way, shape or form. But better fish tacos can be found at Sharky's and Rubio's.

I understand that Tony Gonzalez failed at getting Baja Fresh off the ground in KC. My parents, who regularly visit all of the above listed restaurants when visiting, stated that the Baja Fresh locations in KC paled in comparison to those in Los Angeles (as have many of my friends) for reasons unknown to me.

Posted via Mobile DeviceCold? The burrito or the restaurant?

I mean, it's almost like I think I'm eating at a different restaurant when people rip on Qdoba. They tell me it's greasy, cardboardy/cheap, not fresh, and shitty.

As I've said before, I find Qdoba to be LESS greasy than Chipotle, equal in cardboardy tortillas, and freshness of ingredients.... eh, who cares. As long as they slather my burrito with their queso and add just a touch of habanero salsa I'm good to go.

Qdoba has a terrible fajita burrito...the peppers are stiff and like...raw. The quality of their chicken is vastly inferior....their salsa doesn't taste as good.

I'll get Qdoba because they deliver and are open late...but the only thing I'll get from there is a cheese quesadilla now...

their tortilla soup blows...the quality of their meat is terrible...

I don't know if it is because they don't get any business so the chicken gets old after a while or what...

but that place is terrible.

and I'm not the only one who thinks so...I highly doubt "name recognition" is the reason why the line at our Chipotle is always 50-100 people deep...and the Qdoba (literally 25 paces away) is always dead.

Qdoba was here 1st...and Qdoba used to get packed...they used to have quite the crowd...Chipotle came...and now Qdoba has to be on its last wheels...they stay open late now and deliver to try and get some business from the lazies (myself included)...but every time I try and give their meat a chance it always fails.

9/10 when I want Chiptole it's when I'm on break at work or leaving work...as it is a few blocks away...so it's not really an option. I try doing it on my phone and it's a pain in the ass...

I might do it today before work...because I'm really craving Chipotle...and it's literally impossible to go if you don't order online...

these poor college kids with their BOGO burrito coupons are literally hitting capacity and the line is having to wait outside...

it's pure insanity

I bet the GM of this store is pissed about this promotion...they already get crazy insane business...this is overkill for this particular store.

My roommate went to Chipotle like 15 times a week for 2 months straight last year...the manager had a bunch of promo shit to give away so he told my roommate to bring in 9 people and he'd comp all of their meals for free...so he did and brought a few guys who had never tried it and 2 of those guys are hooked and eat Chipotle twice a week...

so I understand the reason for such a promotion but it's freaking killing me this week

Yeah, I'll take a good fish taco shack over a megabomb burrito joint any day. I used to love megaburritos when I was younger, but now I find them to be a little lacking. The flavors just seem to get muddled amongst all the stuffing (but that could be because I order too many fillings in order to get my money's worth). I saw someone suggest ordering fillings on the side, and I may do that from now on.

As for the OP, that's a ridiculous premise.

I wasn't sure, so I just looked it up. Qdoba franchises. Chipotle does not. Based on that, I wonder if the issue is that there is more variance in Qdoba restaurants. The ones near me are very clean, and the food is always great. Of course, I almost always get chicken at either place, which is naturally a less greasy food.

I love Freebirds! I have never eaten at Chipotle but have been told it is better than Freebirds. I have the coupon and will be doing a comparison with my boys tomorrow for dinner.

I think Chipotle has better meat, but I enjoy the variety of toppings from Freebirds. Neither is a clear winner to me.

Freebirds is very good. They're virtually the same but Freebirds has more options.

And they have cool people with tattoos and ear gauges working there.
