I come to you humbly, bowing in respect, to ask your opinion on a matter of world-changing importance.
I'm involved in naming a new venture. The venture will develop simulation games on a variety of topics. We're not talking about shoot 'em up video games, but rather games of a more strategic nature. These will include football simulations and also simulations on other topics, primarily for entertainment but also possibly education or other purposes. Think cerebral more than graphics.
After discussion, it has been determined that the name of the venture should have the following general design:
[Memorable Random Word] Simulations
In other words, the word Simulations will be the last word, and the first word needs to be something that's kind of fun, easy to spell (for url purposes), memorable, and that has some sort of positive or pleasant connotation.
Got it?
So I looked at this month's subscription of Smithsonian and found some words, and am hoping you can tell me which ones you like and which ones you don't. Also, if you have any great brainstorm names, you are welcome to offer them up as a write-in.
If you comply, I will do everything I can to get you a free agent contract with the Chiefs.

I would definitely tell you my suggestions but I do value my time and intellect. I think they're worth about $10,000 apiece and I have a list of 5 finalists. If you select one of them, it's worth an extrat $50k. But, I've spent minutes conjuring them up and a lifetime of training, creativity, and consumerism. I'm an expert.

Walking Whale was indeed not the initial finalist, but I may actually like it better. It fits all of the criteria very well. However, after consultations with key stakeholders, there's a concern that its implied evolutionary origins may not sit well with some religious folk who could be part of the target market.
If any posters qualify as "religious folk", what do you think about this? Do you think the name could be considered offensive?

The thought of evolution didn't even cross my mind in regards to that name. Whales aren't generally included in the "typical" evolutionary chart but I can see the reservations. As long as the company name isn't "Gay Marriage Simulations" or "Fish Walking on Land Simulations" I wouldn't imagine it would be a big deal.
But then again, I'm for people being able to believe and do what they want...so I might not be the best one to ask.

I picked Gambit Simulations. "Gambit" is a tough word (conjures up images of steely-eyed high-ranking military men in bunkers... or, if you're inclined, Cajuns who throw exploding playing cards).
However, it's a bit close to "gamble" which may make some think you're a sportsbetting company or something. So maybe that would be good for the URL (www.gambitsimulations.com) but the actual full name could be something longer.

Walking Whale was the only other one I kind of liked. It has a nice ring to it. Kind of like Cheeky Monkey. I would consider myself religious and I didn't think about evolution at all when I heard the name or when I got the tattoo of it on my lower back this morning.
I'd like to use the rest of this post to further promote Sandbox Simulations as the name you should go with.
* There are no issues with how to spell it and the alliteration rolls off the tongue.
* In a sandbox, you create approximations of objects out of sand simulating the real thing.
* Open world video games are often referred to as sandboxes because you can do anything you want in them.
I think the name implies fun, creativity, and limitless potential for simulating anything you want.
I'll send you the bill.

What would be more impressive than a Walking Whale? Talk about an accomplishment.
I see a logo something like the drawings from Lewis Carroll's Walrus and the Fisherman.
It's a damn fine name. If you decide not to use it maybe I could open Walking Whale Flooring. I'm not really looking to open a store but I'd hate to see such a great name go to waste.
