Texans part with S Pollard, other key players
The Texans declined tenders to SS Bernard Pollard, LB Zach Diles, OG Kasey Studdard, and DL Tim Bulman, making them unrestricted free agents.Pollard led Houston in tackles last season, but they've apparently decided to make him the scapegoat for their league-worst 2010 pass defense. Pollard can't cover, to be sure, but the Texans should've known that going in. He'll land on his feet as a box safety elsewhere. Diles and Studdard combined to make 36 starts over the past two seasons, but Studdard lost his job last year and Diles apparently wasn't deemed fit for Wade Phillips' new 3-4. Mar 2, 9:27 PM

I don't think they made him the scape goat. They have a new d-coordinator, and he doesn't think Pollard will fit. If anyone was the scapegoat it was Frank Bush, last year. I heard Pollard on the radio this morning, he didn't seem bitter about it at all.

Should have been reading the Planet and they would have known.

He's a pure 4-3 front/box safety that became expendable when Wade Phillips was hired and planned on shifting the defense to a 3-4. Same thing happened here.

I wouldn't be all that surprised to see him in Denver this next season.

Let's bring him in for a look..... his veteran leadership would be invaluable in teaching Berry/Lewis how to take bad angles, bite on play fakes, and just miss on monster tackles.

You forgot about getting called for personal fouls and screaming at teammates after TDs.

Gunther won't even have to tamper with him.

I wonder how long Detroit is going to put up with Gunther's bull shit?

Oh nooooooo.

There were more than just one. Dude was a joke, and total liability on any given play. Whiffed constantly, and couldn't cover for shit. McGraw was more reliable any day of the week.
Not only that but he couldn't handle it when the coaching staff let him know he was fucking up, and instead of shutting his mouth, and trying to get better, he blew up. Our group of safeties is much better without his sorry ass being a part of it.

Suh was a monster this season. Gun is probably dreaming up a whole new scheme to try and reign him in like he did to DT with the "Falcon" position.

So, to answer your question. Any time now.

I'm no Gunther fan but I thought it was laughable that Detroit was fined for his harmless quote.

The Lions are a team on the rise and they've got a lot of defensive talent, so I doubt he's going anywhere else soon.

Pollard basically had a career year with us in 2009 & then water found its level, he was exposed & we found out why he was on the street in the 1st place. I'm happy as hell knowing that he won't be part of the 2011-12 texans defense.

Count them 8, I said 8 Red Zone TDs were given up by Pollard in the 2010 season....

See ya Bernard and don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you on the way out....

I liked Pollard. He seemed like a good guy and I liked his eloquence. As a football player, I liked his willingness to hit.

But how many times did he come out and say something about how the defense was going to play and then have to eat his words. How many times was he the one apologizing for missing tackles? That's not good. Add that to all the times he got turned around and abused in the end-zone and he was just a cheap Roy Williams imitation and that's not a good imitation to be.
