View Full Version : Music Rock N Poll Special: Adding a Heat

Rain Man
03-04-2011, 03:43 PM
Okay, here's the deal.

In looking through the seedings, I noticed a minor issue. I saw Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" in some heat toward the end of the first round.

Wait a minute, I said. I thought we already had that song. So I checked. And sure enough, "Like A Rolling Stone" snuck into the contest twice, most likely due to CIA tampering or possibly some sort of jenson hacking.

So I need a new song to replace one of the Like A Rolling Stones. And since several people have commented about songs that they wish were in the tournament, I'm going to add not just one new song, but a whole new heat. Yes, a total of 9 new songs.

So here's the deal. I'll list all the songs currently in the tournament below, and you can nominate any deserving songs that are missing. I'll then put up a special inclusion poll, and the top nine choices will be randomly mixed into any heats not yet underway, with a little shuffling to add one new heat at the end.

Here are the rules:

1. Only 50 songs will be considered, and I'll include them all in one big global poll. Top nine vote-getters get entry into the tournament.

2. One suggestion post per person. If you include two or more posts, your subsequent ones will be ignored like Hilary Clinton at a Hugh Hefner pool party. So think hard before you post, or at least make liberal use of the edit function. EDIT: JUST TO BE CLEAR, YOUR POST CAN SUGGEST MORE THAN ONE SONG. HOWEVER, YOUR SECOND, THIRD, AND FOLLOWING SONGS WON'T BE INCLUDED UNTIL EVER POSTER HAS HAD ONE SONG INCLUDED.

3. List your songs in decreasing order of preference. I will then go through and take everyone's first listed song to include in the poll. If fewer than 50 people make a suggestion, I'll then loop back through and take the second suggestion in the same manner, and so on.

4. List your songs like this: Title, Performer. For example, Copacabana, Barry Manilow. Or My Heart Will Go On, Celine Dion.

5. First come, first serve. The selection loop in #3 will be in the order in which posts are submitted.

I'll shut this thread down sometime on Monday, whenever I have time, and will put up the poll shortly thereafter. Or maybe add it to this thread if I can still do that.

They're a rock group, and it's a song. Therefore, it's a rock song. Admittedly, it's soft rock.

At least, I think they're a rock group. Never really paid much attention.

I would've meant all of them if I could, but we have a stupid one vote limit. And since I have to appeal to the masses as much as possible, I went with one of their more popular (not necessarily better) songs.

Or do you not count them as rock and roll?

What, couldn't find a link for "We Built This City"?

Jefferson Starship is truly awful.
Hey now, "We built this city" was simply "Starship", no Jefferson, and it was truly awful.

Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship kicked ass.

There are way too many songs I like to have a list. You would have to poll me 3 or 4 times a year as my favorites shuffle. The bolded songs stood out today lol~

As of this point, we have 30 top-line nominees. If we get 20 more before Monday we'll shut this down and start the inclusion poll. Otherwise, I'll go back and pull in the second-line nominees.

One more: "Captain Jack" by Billy Joel. Might be the first song ever that features the lyric "masturbate" and well, hell, that means something to me.

Check out "Rosie" by Jackson Browne. A little subtle, and hilarious.

That and "Alone again, naturally" are the two most utterly depressing songs I have ever heard.

Yeah, I know that song (Browne's "Rosie) prob too well. But Joel's 1973 "Captain Jack" beats that song as if it were his dick hanging around in a one-horse town on a Saturday night. I bet there's enough subtle songs like this to create a field of 64.

What about "At Seventeen" by Janice Ian? Or does it just make you want to pick on her?
