It's supposed to be done in time for the CWS. I haven't checked the status of it lately though.

Yeah. Sensitive subject here. They're tearing down a perfectly good stadium and building one that will be used about 50% less. The Royals moved to a different county in southwest Omaha. (Not really Omaha) and they built their own stadium. Omaha wanted way too much money for them to play in the new downtown stadium.

I thinking the addition of a hitting coach by the name of Darin Erstad
will prevent that from happening.
Its put up or shut time for Mike Anderson & co. Lot of peeps are still sore that he got the head job over Rob Childress. Me being 1 of them.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Henry Doorly Zoo leadership said Rosenblatt Stadium will be partly preserved in the zoo's plans for the site.

The zoo's "Infield at the Zoo" project will preserve the original location of home plate, feature a re-creation of the base paths, use the original stadium seats and integrate the dugouts.

Zoo officials also said the main gate for the new facility will borrow architectural elements from Rosenblatt's grandstan

I am hoping they add to the Zoo railroad my self.

I must agree that baseball, even little league, is more entertaining than NASCAR. Wake me up when they make a right turn or have a big wreck. Pretty sure NASCAR was invented as an excuse for rednecks to get wasted and go beat their wives when Dale Earnhardt Jr. fails to live up to his dad's memory, which is etched in commemorative, grits-stained, plates.

Meh, I disagree. It was in need of some updating but I thought it was a pretty awesome stadium. Especially the seats up high behind the plate.
Well, I don't live in douglas so hey, you enjoy paying for that and the qwest center. DYK that Omaha's been paying on the Qwest center for 4 years now and every payment was the minimum and only applied towards the interest?

The soccer mom's and right wing extremists stll feel vindicated that gambling is illegal in NE.
We had the opportunity, (several times) to vote yes on casinos. The taxes casinos would have brought in would have already allowed Omaha to pay off the debt on the ballpark and the arena.
Interesting and sad fact:
If you were to go to one of the 3 casinos over in CB, (which you can see from Omaha) and count license plates, You'd see a 2 to 1 ratio favoring NE. Iowa enjoys the money Nebraska citizens cantribute, I'm sure.

Those casinos are owned by Nevada based companies, so the vast majority of the money generated goes back there. Sure, the city and the state get their slice of the pie, but overall they are still a drain on the local economy. I'd have no problem with state owned casinos where all the money stayed here, but the gov't isn't in the casino business.

Osborne Announces Change in Baseball Program

Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne announced Sunday that he has made a change in the leadership of the Nebraska baseball program.

"I appreciate the efforts of Mike Anderson and his coaching staff, but I have made the decision to change the direction of our baseball program," Osborne said.

"Mike has done an outstanding job with our baseball program academically, and he enjoyed outstanding success on the field early in his head coaching career here at Nebraska. I want to thank him for all of his hard work and everything he has done for our baseball program."

Anderson completed his ninth season with the Huskers on Saturday as Nebraska swept Missouri in a season-ending doubleheader. Nebraska finished the 2011 season with a 30-25 overall record and a 9-17 record in the Big 12 Conference.

"It has been honor and a privilege to serve our student-athletes at the University of Nebraska over the past 15 years," Anderson said. "I am humbled to have worked with so many great people who shared a vision of positive influence on young men's and women's lives. I would like to thank our coaching staff and extended coaching staff for their commitment to our student-athletes.

"My wife, Kim, family and I have been blessed by our many 'baseball kids' that have entered our lives. We are truly thankful for their efforts and continued relationships. We have loved raising our family in Nebraska and are appreciative of the people who have helped along the way."

In his nine seasons, Anderson guided the Nebraska program to a 337-196-2 record, including two Big 12 titles (2003 and 2005) and the school's third College World Series appearance in 2005. In that season, Nebraska won a school-record 57 games and the Huskers captured the program's first CWS victory.

Anderson guided Nebraska to NCAA Regional appearances in five of his first six seasons, and the Huskers won 40-or-more games four times during his tenure, most recently in 2008. Anderson coached a total of 22 first-team all-conference selections, while 52 of his players signed pro contracts. Under Anderson, 72 players earned academic All-Big 12 honors, including a league-high 15 selections in 2011.

Anderson spent eight years as an assistant coach for the Huskers from 1995 to 2002, before taking over as the head coach in June of 2002.

Osborne said he will begin the process of finding a replacement for Anderson immediately, but does not have any expectation for when a new head coach will be named.

"We will keep our baseball student-athletes, fans and media informed as things progress, but I do not have a definitive timetable for hiring a new coach," Osborne said.
