As I got a little older I loved the cheerleader sketches with Will Ferrell. Funny shit.

Oh, and Deep Thoughts With Jack Handey.

I greatly enjoyed Deep Thoughts with Jack Handey.

In terms of skits, I've always enjoyed the one back in the Tim Kazurinsky/Joe Piscopo era where some talk show pulled people out of the general public in JFK's 25th or 30th assassination anniversary, and asked them where they were when they found out. It turned out after questioning that the first one didn't find out for 20 years, and the second one didn't yet know it had happened.

Unrelated, I saw a Benny Hill skit the other night that I thought was hilarious. It was a TV talk show set with two guys in chairs, one in a spotlight and the other blacked out. The one in the darkened chair started interviewing the guy in the lit-up chair about being a mob informant, and how the guy had to stay anonymous and hidden at all times. The guy in the lit-up chair was saying, "Yeah, if they ever find out who I am, I'm dead." After a few minutes of this, there was a pause, and the interviewer said, "Y'know, I think we're in the wrong chairs."

That's good stuff. I'm still chuckling.

My favorite Jack Handey....."If you lived in the Dark Ages, and you were a catapult operator, I bet the most common question people would ask is, 'Can't you make it shoot farther?' No. I'm sorry. That's as far as it shoots."

I don't know why I find that so damn funny.

can't remember name of the skit, but it was a morning show type skit with Ferrel, Nacny Walls (I think) and David Allen Grier as the weatherman; at somepoint in the morning show, the teleprompter goes out, and the hosts have to ad lib.....which they can't do. they panic....it gets progressively worse as the show comes back from repeated breaks, until it ends in a "Lord of the Flies" type atmoshpere, as though the world is coming to an end because there's not teleprompter lol.

I've loved the show since I was a kid. I think I've seen every episode since the mid '90s. I have always recorded it when I had plans so I wouldn't miss it. Every year I hear the same thing:

Agree 100% I instantly discount anyones opinion that's begins with " I havnt watched since....."

I've watched it consistantly since the early 80's with Murphy and Piscapo and every cast has had highs and lows. The original cast everyone loves because of the "nostalgia" factor, but there was a lot of junk in between the good stuff just like every year contains. The only truly bad season was 1985 with robert downy jr., anthony micheal hall.....bad bad bad......

THIS! Top five for sure.

Throw in....There was a great Billy Crystal/Christopher Guest skit "The Minkmans"....it was a 60-minutes type expose on the brothers who created a practical joke company/factory.

I would say a three way tie between "The Sinatra Group", "Chippendales" and "Cowbell" for stand alone skits.

For recurring skit:

Joe Montana's "Honest guy Stu" skit.

I don't think a video of it exists on the interwebs, but the script is right here:

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/86/86istu.phtml

Unfortunately, it doesn't do justice to the skit. Montana's deadpan delivery and Hartman's clear annoyance with Stu is just awesome. Great sketch.

Sinatra Group with Phil Hartman as Sinatra

Tommy the Pathological Liar with Jon Lovitz.

Annoying Man with Jon Lovitz (rakes a fork across a blackboard)

Eddie Murphy dressing up like a white person in NYC.

Dan Akroyd as Irwin Mainway of Mainway Unsafe Toys.

Dieter's Dream with Mike Meyers.

Dana Carvey as H. Ross Perot

Norm MacDonald as Burt Reynolds

Adam Sandler as Opera Man

The Douchebag skit with Buck Henry and Bill Murray

The "Oops I Crapped My Pants" commercial

John Belushi as Joe Cocker

Canteen Boy and Col. Angus were also mentioned. Those were epic.

As far as Presidents, these guys were the best:
Nixon: Akroyd (Skit: "The New Dick")
Jimmy Carter: Akroyd (Jimmy talks a guy down off acid)
Ronald Reagan: Phil Hartman (girl scouts in the white house sketch)
George HW Bush: Dana Carvey (thousand points of light...)
Bill Clinton: Darrell Hammond (great during Monica-gate)
George W. Bush: Will Ferrell (Debate vs Gore: "Stratgegery")
Barack Obama: Fred Armisen

Are u kidding me? Bill Hader, Kristen Wieg, Jason Sudekis, and Andy Samberg work their tails off and consistently bring the funny every week.

I nominate the recent Jason Sudekis sketch where he played the devil and did a commentary on how even he hates the Westboro Baptist funeral protesters. I found it to be one of the most entertaining and relevant SNL sketches I've seen in years.

Dana Carvey's recent Church Lady sketch was also pretty hilarious.

Thats awesome that they work hard...too bad most of the material is garbage and not funny.

SNL was great early-late 90's.

It was okay in the 2000's which I call the Ferrell years.

There are only a handful of sketches now, that I consider funny. Take away the Lonely Island stuff, and I can't think of anything on SNL that's the least bit entertaining.
