I know there are a lot of Las Vegas fans on the board. the iconic Sahara is Closing after 60 years. Another legend gone. Really enjoyed the "Old School" feel of the place. It will be missed. RIP.

Thank God. That place had the WORST buffet I've ever had in my entire life! I think they kept recycling the food that was dumped in the trash can, and put it back out to be served. Just thinking about it makes me want to hurl.

That place was a shithole. It literally smelled like 60 years of stanky cigarette smoke. I nearly heaved when I walked in.

I've been to Vegas like 20-25 times and have absolutely no idea what the Saraha is, lol

I'm going to vegas in a month (cheap route) and staying at the Stratosphere (budget)...good or bad?

don't really care (lol)

I have about $3000 for me and my girlfriend and hoping to make it last for 5 days...

only took about $900 of my budget for flights and hotel (at Stratosphere) and wanted to stay on the strip...

not a lot of gambling, more sightseeing, drinking, and shows (etc...)

just hoping I show her a good time (she's never been) and I only really have $3,000 to spend (comfortably)

Damn I like staying there. Nice $60 room and a good cheap poker tourney.

You could stay even cheaper if you got off of the strip. I think I stayed at Arizona Charlies for $25 bucks a night a while back.

Damn, that's too bad. I stayed there my first 4 trips to Vegas.

golden nugget was a fantastic stay (cost wise). keep on getting room rates for like 25 a night now.

Meh.

I've only walked through the Casino to get from the strip in the front to the monorail station in the back and I wasn't terribly impressed. No big loss in my eyes.

If your an entertainment buff, it's sad, just on the histporical value of teh place and the people who've played, worked, filmed, there.
Sure there are better newer places on the strip, but man a steak at House of Lords.....That was truly a thing of beauty.
Least I had the pleasure twice.

The resort's 1,050 employees can't be all that thrilled with the news.

Yep. Everyone celebrating the demise of the property should keep this in mind.

I made that mistake. Once.

There's nothing wrong with the rooms, or the casino, but it's really on the dark side of the moon compared to the rest of the strip. It's a helluva walk just to get to where everything else is. Really, the north end of the strip ends at the Wynn/Encore.

So if you're wanting to see all the casinos, go to shows, etc, you're almost forced to wait for the occasional trolley, or take a cab.

It's your money, but you're better off finding an inexpensive option down where the action is, IMO.

If you want, PM me your dates and budget and I can find you some better options.

It's really bad the Sahara is closing its doors, it was a good place to finish my Vegas vacations when I was getting run down.I will miss the Sahara.

If you've got $3k to spend you should be going to Mexico, not Vegas.

Too bad, but understandable.

When the parents went to Vegas, they always stayed there. I was able to go a couple of times, but as a kid, it was really boring (except by the pool). I had to be escorted to get to the restaurant as the only way to it was through the casino. My dad even got Del Webb to partner with him to build some of the early Section 23 apartment buildings in KCK.

After Del sold the Sahara, they started going elsewhere to gamble and play golf.

Sad to see.

One part weak economy and one part not keeping up with the Joneses...

I'm going to Vegas in April and getting comped to stay at the Oriental Palace by Harrahs. But I hear if I play enough poker the Venetian will make their room half price. So I'm counting on that.

But this is the times of the Vegas strip. I'm sure the Sahara was awesome in it's day. Some old dude was telling me Circus Circus used to be nice. Maybe even Oriental Palace, but nowadays these places are all shitholes. Eventually they will all be bulldozed and something much nicer will be constructed. Everybody wins.

Vegas is not doing very well right now.

For a long time real estate was booming and tourists flocked but with tightening wallets it's all trimming down.

Less "gift for the gamble."

On the upside if you're into real estate speculation now is a great time to buy...
