Im sure we have some smart folks who would ace this but I freely admit this is a tough one.

I've always been a geography buff.. But the former USSR and Western Africa are the two most difficult places to name. The Middle East and northeast Africa wasn't that hard. I missed Chad, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, NiGer, Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, and Western Sahara

That was pretty much how it was for me as well. I actually got a bunch of the *stans right, but it wasn't because I knew them.

I didn't ace it by any strech of the imagination, but didn't do too poorly other than in Western Africa.

Well, I got everything right except for those stupid -stan countries (excluding pakistan and afghanistan). Those countries don't really do much anyway, so it's OK.

Got Mali and Mauritania mixed up.

I did pretty good, the former USSR ones always throw me off. Not to mention the Western African ones have changed a little bit since I learned them.

I struggled right up until the point I pulled up google maps. I've been to Turkey, Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain so I kinda got those right.

I did really well until the 'Stans'.

I have a bachelors in a related degree, have taken courses about Africa and that entire region.

It's amazing how many names of nations are different in 15 years.

I got 8 wrong.

Everybody else, good job. You'd be amazed how many people I've met over the years who can't even pick Montana out on a map. (It's the state with a face)

Oh and I missed a couple in Africa and switched two of the -stans. Also, I kind of knew where bahrain was but couldn't find the spot on the map.

Heh. I've never actually heard Montana referred to as having a face. I suppose I do see it now that you mentioned it though.

I rocked the Middle East and even the Stan's. I was able to get all of North Africa but couldn't get the rest. I also couldn't figure out the two island countries in the Persian Gulf.

I got the easy ones. Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Palestinian Territory, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cyprus, Algeria, and Morocco. The rest was a total a crap shoot. I feel so stoopid.

Here's where I had to start guessing:

I think most people hit the wall here. Those are the most obscure countries ever (with the exception of random Pacific and Indonesian islands).

After navigating in my car from Kansas to Colorado, and somehow ending up in Texas, I refuse to take that test...To be fair it was a cloudy night and I couldn't see the stars.

I did better than I would have a few months ago. My company works in a lot of these places and I end up looking at more maps of that area than I ever did before. Still missed Armenia and Qatar though.

Armenia stays stuck in my mind b/c

1) It reminds me of Albania [Albania, Albania, you border on the Adriatic, Your land is mostly mountainous, And your chief export is chrome]

2) good friend is an Armenian from Eastern Turkey, which I know is in close proximity to Greece.

So the two are a 1-2 punch in the transition from Europe to ME.

You've never heard of the genocide committed in Armenia (Armenian Holocaust) by the Turks?

EDIT: Never mind, I guess not too many people know about those atrocities.

I have a buddy from Armenia, who is an artist. He has painted many pictures about the genocide. But for some reason, I had it in my mind that it bordered the Caspian Sea.

I did pretty good on this until I got down to the little pissant Arab countries and the former Soviet countries that end in "stan." Actually got all the African countries correct, although admittedly I did guess on a couple of them.

I did surprisingly decent. The Africa ones were easiest to remember, and of course Turkey, Afghanistan, Israel, Palestine, and Iran/Iraq were easy. You gotta feel sorry for Israel. How small that country is...surrounded by people that hate them. It would be like a KKK member in full robe in the middle of a Raytown Hy-Vee.
