I've seen the way you people have messed up the Rock N Poll, so I'll do the nominating. I know someone would nominate all 3,756 Bob Dylan songs.

Two heats of 15. The top 10 songs advance to the finals.

No suckage option because everyone who hates country music will vote for that.

This is supposed to be about the greatest country songs, not the biggest country sell-outs.

I voted for Coe. I think the line, "I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison" should make it the automatic winner.

I was blinded by "Garth Brooks".

Still not a fan of Strait, though.

A lot of the greatest country songs aren't on that list

1 song from the last 15 years?

It was about 20 years ago that country became pop music with a twang. And there are two songs there less then 15 years old. :)

Why no Hank Williams Sr or Lefty Frizell?

Baby Lee
03-23-2011, 02:57 PM
There are some artists who'd crack the top 30 there, but none of those songs.

Coal Miner's Daughter
He Stopped Lovin' Her Today
Devil Went Down to Georgia
Crazy
Stand By Your Man
Always on My Mind
I Will Always Love You
Country Roads

but honestly, the biggest impact that any one country song ever made on this country was Achy Breaky Heart by billy ray cyrus. That song shook this idiotic nation of idiot country fans.

I disagree. "Friends In Low Places" probably did more to mainstream country music then any other song.

I got guests, and a show, and I'm ready to go, so I guess that's pretty cool, . . . it's pretty cool.

I disagree. "Friends In Low Places" probably did more to mainstream country music then any other song.

The "New Tradionalist" movement in country in the '80's put out some amazing music and then Garth Brooks came along and turned it into pop country.

It's kind of like how metal turned into hair metal.

Is Rocky Top country or bluegrass? Because it needs to be in there. Neal Cody has a great song called "Breathin'" that warrants consideration. And of course, Johnny Cash's Sunday Morning.

Marty Robbins. He had some great songs.

I'm not a big country fan, but there have been some great songs.

What about:

Rainy Night in Georgia

Luckenbach, Texas... with Waylon and Willie and the boys...

I'm just going to throw the album name out there. Any one of the songs on it is worthy of nomination.

You left out Emmylou Harris.

This woman was the voice of God. Not mainstream but her talent was unmatched. Technically, her range, accuracy and voice timbre was superb. She had it all: looks, style, grace, emotion, class. Did I mention that she could sing too?

The Highwayman

I love that song, but for some reason when he says "I'll fly a starship" it strikes me as goofy. Still, it is a great song.

The Ballad of $40 by Tom T Hall is a great oldie, and "When You're Hot You're Hot" by Jerry Lee

I think that was Jerry Reed, This is Jerry Lee:
