What is your favorite Hot Dog brand? Brands like Oscar Mayor and Ballpark are fine but I am looking for better. I have tried a few and found some pretty good ones. What kind of dogs do you buy?

Johnsonville Beddar Cheddar Brats are up there, and Ballpark are pretty good, too. I need a better sample of Hebrew National before I say anything about their dogs.

When all else fails, Sonic quarter-pound Texas coney passes. *EDIT*: But it should have jalapenos on it.

Our friends bring some good dogs back from Michigan. They just call them "Michigan hotdogs".

We buy National Hebrew, but I've been eying the Boar's Head wieners in the deli case.

Also

Brats > wieners.

Give the Boar's Head a try they are pretty good. They have a nice casing that gives a good snap when you bite into them.

Consider yourself lucky. Walking by it is even unpleasant due to the stench and the line of soulless masochists shuffling up for another bag of barely congealed grease.

I DID however, find a street vendor on my way home and got a hot dog from him. It had brown mustard, relish, diced onions, mayo, pastrami, and jalapenos on it. It hit the spot.

forget the rest, this is the best, by far

One "uncured" hot dog stands far above the rest, and that's the Niman Ranch Fearless Uncured Beef Franks ($4.39 for a pound, Trader Joe's).

The Niman all-beef hot dogs did so well that they earned a spot in the Taster's Choice Hall of Fame, for products that score 80 or more points out of a possible 100 in a blind tasting.

These hot dogs are big -- a quarter-pound each. And they were the favorite of all five tasters.

I cant remember the last time I bought hot dogs. Not a big fan, unless I make chili dogs. Then its something kinda cheap, like SugarDale.

I hate to constantly pimp this shit, but really: everything I've had from Trader Joe's, to this point, has been great. I work on the same block as the one in Leawood (*SPOILER ALERT*) and have had a variety of things from there. All great. I just hate their uber-midwestern checkout ladies. Look, it's great that you want to talk to the person you're ringing out about Orchids. Your job isn't the greatest; mine isn't either. Can you do me a favor and ring me out? I'll leave them right here so you can continue, just let me leave.

Other than that minor qualm.. holy shit, Trader Joes is great.

My greatest hotdog memory was in third grade I got a C on a test I studied hard for, but just kind of panicked on and didn't do my best. My mom's girlfriend had a "B and above" standard for me, and when I told her about the C she whooped my ass and sent me to my room and I was told I'd have no dinner. She bbqed that night, and it smelled so strong I was starving. Then my mom snuck me in a hotdog with cheese and mustard on it. Greatest hotdog of my life, it seems like it took hours to eat it.

There's a pretty well-known hot dog place in Hawaii that does a dog made out of duck. Then they put this dried fruit on top. It's like $10, but well worth it.

They also do lobster dogs and some other unique ones, but I was only there on duck dog day.

Nathan's are pretty good. For me, it's more about the toppings than the hot dogs anyway. Give me a chili cheese dog, or a true Coney Island dog, and I'm going to enjoy it as long as the hot dog itself isn't absolutely terrible.

At home I like Hebrew National or Ball Park Franks. I've had Nathans, but the skins seem a bit tougher than the others. I like to steam hot dogs, not boil them.

The Sonic Chicago Dog is a great value. But the best Chicago Dog in KC is at Pizza Man, a little hole in the wall shop in Lenexa. They use Vienna Beef hot dogs, and have Vitner's chips. So it's closer to authentic Chicago.

In some cases, I believe that. But I can clearly taste the difference between a Nathan's and anything else. Even if comparing Ball Park to Oscar Meyer, there is a big difference in taste.
