Were those acquisitions stupid at the time? Yes. Definitively so, and there was every justification for so many analysts to laugh at the roster construction.

That said, there's absolutely no reason to make this post, since most of the regular posters have been nothing but open minded since the start of the season.

Melky cost us nothing and we still control him through arbitration; he's a solid young player. Frenchy plays solid D and has shown the ability to hit in the past. I don't recall anybody hating the Getz trade, other than a few nutcases who actually thought Mark Teahen was good at baseball for some reason.

Everybody, rightfully so, should have hated the Cabrera and Francouer signings, because they have both been atrocious the past few seasons.

How were the Cabrera and Getz acquisitions stupid at the time? Melky cost us nothing and we still control him through arbitration; he's a solid young player. Frenchy plays solid D and has shown the ability to hit in the past. He's also still fairly young and cost us very little.

What's to hate? Who are they blocking?

There isn't a stat guy alive who would have advocated for the signing of Frenchy. Some, like Rany, speculated that he'd be the worst everyday player in the game.

Melky projected like just about every outfielder who was already on the roster. Not a problem to sign him, just didn't appear like it was particularly productive.

Getz, again, was fine. Nothing to get excited about and nothing to hate. All of these moves were not Kendall-level stupid, but none were particularly great on paper, either.

It's ridiculous to mock some of the deserved criticism, though, when no one has been harping on it since the beginning of Spring Training.

Does everyone still hate Melky, Frenchy, and Getz? I know, DM is and idiot and everything, but do we still need to hate these guys?!?

Only one I didn't like was Frenchy, but he's still young enough to turn around.

I was pretty much fine with the other 2. Getz isn't the future, and Cabrera probably isn't the future, but they are both good bridges. If they emerged as stars, great. Royals have to get lucky sometime.

How many innings did guys like Quiz, Rollie Fingers and Bruce Sutter pitch back in the day?

I agree. If Bob Gibson can pitch 50,000 innings with a 1.12 ERA and 75,000 strikeouts and 35 wins in a year, I don't know why Soria can't throw 7 innings in 10 days or whatever, just because he makes more money.

Right, and when soria gets hurt and stays hurt we bitch and moan why they pitched him so much. Remember mike sweeney, money made us bitch about that shit too. Pitchers should be ****ing coddled a bit, its hard to get great pitching Oh also that Gil Meche guy

Like the rest of us, just enjoy a solid start to the season.

Like the rest of us, just enjoy a solid start to the season.I don't know that they are great (or where in the world you are getting that, for that matter), but I guess I don't see how they hurt (at all). It's not like we're paying much for any of these guys. If they play well, great. If they don't, assign or DFA them. I know it's in vogue to hate DM, but I don't see the problem with these moves.

I have no idea why you entered this thread with a snarky post about those three players. No one gives a shit at this point. No one is bitching, but no one should be singing the praises of Moore, who has time and again shown himself to be a ****ing clown when it comes to ML roster construction.

If he gets lucky with three sub-par to average acquisitions, so much the better for the fans.

I guess I don't understand what should be criticized.

Frenchy has a career .310 OBP and a .734 OPS while playing a position that requires offensive production. He strikes out almost 4 times more often than he walks. The only thing he can do is hit about a dozen homers a season. His defense is OK, but his value is slightly higher than a replacement-level corner outfielder, and he's 27.

There's not much to like about him, and for all the praise he's getting, his stats have been even worse so far this season.

f he gets lucky with three sub-par to average acquisitions, so much the better for the fans. That's what we SHOULD be doing. If we can flip some of these guys for decent prospects (or let them leave as Type Bs, assuming that survives), why shouldn't we sign these guys? DM has put together an incredible minor league system; these types of players can help him continue to add to that wealth of talent.

The only one out of the three acquisitions that might be worth something is Melky. Frenchy was traded for Ryan Church, FFS. And Getz might be worth a reliever, but I don't see the point in trading him.

minor leagues are done.

Odorizzi must have been on an extremely strict pitch count, but he looked good in 4IP. Moustakas, Wil Myers, and Salvador Perez all had good days. Giavotella and Colon did not.

Too bad it takes a triple to score Butler from second.

Yeah Butler is pretty slow, but I'm pretty sure he's even more so right now because he hurt himself running the bases yesterday.
