I care about you, this is why I am posting this... Think about it and make a change for your family. I am not bitching about being debt free, that's your choice, I am bitching about in case of an emergency and being a responsible adult.

The answer for many employees would be to earn more money. Forty-two percent of workers believe an additional $500 per paycheck would allow them to live comfortably. Yet, 21 percent of workers who earn at least $100,000 also claim to live paycheck to paycheck.
Where does all the money go?
Although you budget for rent, monthly bills and groceries, do you factor in going to the movies, eating out for lunch, repairing your car's busted radiator or tailoring your new suit?
When accepting a job offer and setting your budget, think about how much money you need to live your regular, everyday life, not just enough to cover the recurring bills you receive in the mail.
Your invisible expenses -- a smoothie after yoga class or a cab ride after a night of partying -- deplete your account more than you think.
"Consider creating a budget and then writing down all money spent for a month. Compare it to the budget," financial specialist Lisa R. Featherngill advises. "Are there surprises?"
Eating away at your budget
One of the reasons so many workers can't put anything in savings might be their penchant for eating out. You could pack your lunch that morning or make a little extra dinner and take the leftovers to work ... but do you?
You might not be surprised to find out that nearly two-thirds of workers set a budget for each paycheck, but 19 percent say they don't stick to it on a regular basis. Quick bites are often the culprits.
"Most of us don't plan to eat out so often, but there's a delay at work, an appointment takes longer or the subway is running slowly. We're tired and hungry; there's no time to cook, so we end up calling for takeout or running next door for a quick restaurant meal," says Stacy Francis, a financial adviser and president of Francis Financial.

What exactly am I jealous of?

I don't wish to live your lifestyle where I'm capped out at a 150k house. I work hard for my money, and likely already make more than you, will continue to make more than you, have a better retirement, and the only thing I have is a mortage and car payment as my debts at the ripe age of 31.

I've had my Master's Degree paid for, 2 student loans forgiven, have zero credit card debt, and live in a nice house that provides for my family where my kids can go to good schools. Plus, I have a nice chunk of change in the bank.

I enjoy things in life and am responsible with my money. You're a ****ing blowhard who wants to pass judgement on all who live with some debt on their credit report.

You are an asshat though. Think about how many people on this site have been unemployed for long amounts of time on this BB. Being unemployed isn't quite as hard as it used to be. Tell me, did any of those people lose their internet connection? How about cable, or their cellphones? They were unemployed and hurting, and plenty of people I know have been too. Yet they can still afford these expensive luxuries in life. Those bills right there probably cost about 200 bucks a month. On top of their mortage/rent, auto, insurance, food, yada yada, their luxury still prevails. This isn't the 80's bud. Look around you next time you drive down the road, how many rusty old piles do you see? I remember when they used to be the norm, and now, every 25yr. old drives a nice new shiny car. Boo fucking hoo. The majority of the folks losing their houses to foreclosure are white collar Americans who paid $300,000+ for their homes. Would you rather see a forum full of posts talking about taking a shit or stuff that actually affects peoples lives?

Whats wrong with encouraging people to be prepared for the unexpected things in life?

Am I trying to sell someone something? Am I promoting a website?

I am not going to quit talking about this subject anytime soon so if it is a bannable offense, or if it is what you consider to be "obnoxious" (as if that has ever mattered here) then your best bet would be to just go ahead and ban me, I will survive and life will go on... I stayed away from this place 3 or 4 years before and my life did not end and I am sure the same will happen the next time.

It's not the exact same subject you dumbass LMAO

You're the one to call me a dumbass. That makes it my business. So again, how is this thread any different than any of your other attempts to generate some sense of self worth by gloating about your personal finances?

You can analyze it the way that makes you feel good, I want people to think about how much jeopardy they can put their family in if they lose their jobs or get hurt...

Now it sounds to me like you are just another butthurt asshole here that is trying to justify their actions by trying to shoot holes in mine. This thread is not about me or me being debt free but I can tell you are extremely envious of that by the way you keep bringing it up...

Regardless of what my situation is has nothing to do with the question I asked and the link I posted that suggests how to save a little money one may need for a rainy day....

If you can't deal with that then that's on you man, Maybe you should sit down with your family and discuss the topic at hand, get the better half to help you with the big words if you need to.

Oh and Daface, how come you never answered me in those PM's ? Were you afraid one of your buds here would see you reading it?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. I rarely respond to PM's from anyone. I get too many of them to care most of the time.

I don't know how long it would take. With no job I could probably go 10-15 years in the house I'm in.

So now you can come up with something along the lines of a response. Congratulations. Essentially two sides of the same thing, but whatever. Why not just say that in the first place instead of acting like a three year old?

Now it sounds to me like you are just another butthurt asshole here that is trying to justify their actions by trying to shoot holes in mine. This thread is not about me or me being debt free but I can tell you are extremely envious of that by the way you keep bringing it up....

Butthurt? Really? Did I call you a 'dumbass' or 'asshole'? No. In fact, I have made no statement about your actions other than calling you out for starting the same thread that you started two weeks ago.

Regardless of what my situation is has nothing to do with the question I asked and the link I posted that suggests how to save a little money one may need for a rainy day.....

Nobody cares about your situation. Anyone who might have cared could have easily pulled up one of your other personal finance threads and had at it. That's the point you don't seem to grasp.

If you can't deal with that then that's on you man, Maybe you should sit down with your family and discuss the topic at hand, get the better half to help you with the big words if you need to.

About a year ago my wife took a significant loss in income and our house taxes increased $300 a month. Basically we started making $1000 less a month. We are scraping by because of it but we can still eat out here and there or go to the movies, etc. so it's not a desperate situation. Obviously not a planned scenario but those situations rarely are.

Why? Do you think I am going to be jealous or something?
I want you to be able to take care of your family.

Passed some homeless guy on the way to work this morning. He was debtfreeandproud, and was unconcerned about paychecks or losing his stuff.

Of course, all his stuff smells like stale piss, so that might have something to do with it.

I care about you, this is why I am posting this... Think about it and make a change for your family. I am not bitching about being debt free, that's your choice, I am bitching about in case of an emergency and being a responsible adult.

in a word, "LOTS".

debt free, retired on pensions and DW still works for almost enough to get by on.

we're the exception, not the norm.
we're VERY, VERY lucky and know it.

I still work but have been fortunate enough to make investments and have a very livable passive income available when I decide to start living off that. I don't have debt but of course can never predict what might happen with taxes and cost of living in the future.

So the way things are now, yeah I could live for now on without anymore "paychecks" but can't say if that would remain constant or not due to the unpredictability of life.

Of course I'm old and don't have nearly as long to be here as many of the other posters. I guess that also plays into it too.

You might not have noticed that we discuss pretty much every ****ing personal thing on this site.

"None of your business" is a gutless cop out.

Okay.

How 'bout "My finances are boring bullshit that I talk about with trained financial experts, businessmen and investment specialists and not some dumbshit that listened to Dave Ramsey a few times and now fancies himself some sort of credit mesiah."

That work for ya? People don't talk about this around here because...well, nobody other than the dicksmoke attention whore really cares.

You actually can't help smell people like that, although I'm sure it's the sort of stench you've become accustomed to, delivery boy.
