The Spurs are in a bit of a pickle tonight. They'd like to have the overall number one seed but they really don't want the Lakers to fall to the 4 seed.

It probably has. If KC had a team I'd follow the regular season, but to an outside fan that has no particular rooting interest it's hard to follow an 82 game season. The NBA is becoming a lot more competitive though it seems. This years playoffs should be a lot of fun to watch.

Hoping Chicago wins it all, but I think the Lakers will end up with another threepeat even though they are struggling now. Phil's teams have always tended to lay down a little more in the regular season in the last year of all his other threepeats and this year is looking the same.

Lakers have played alot of games. They have to not play as hard all the time. Kobe, Pau, Artest, Lamar have played alot of years and alot of games espeically in the last 4 years.

As much as people want them to play 110 percent every game. Its not going to happen. They gotta pace themselves.

Maybe in the West, the East has some real dud matchups. Knicks/Celts could be a good one, Atlanta/Orlando will be very good. Heat and Bulls should sweep and play 5 game series at max.

I'm still amazed that the Bulls have the best record in the east.

Outside of Rose, what do they really have? Yes they play great D.

But we all know that historically in the NBA to win a championship, you need at least 2 superstars... And even more than that of late.

I think they're a year or two away. When Carlos Booser becomes their 3rd or 4th best player, then they'll be ready. When he's the 2nd best? Nope.

Heh, Bulls vs. Orlando in the 2nd round might be pretty epic.

And I think Celtics have a chance of getting knocked out by the Knicks setting up Knicks vs. Heat which will be pretty damn interesting.

Either way, I don't see anyone beating Chicago in the East. Everyone of their positions other than the 2 guard is solid and even then, they have Brewer and Korver backing up the 2.

Boozer would be the 4th best player on the Lakers.

1 - Kobe
2 - Gasol
3 - Bynum (incredible length. Injury prone but so is Boozer)
4 - Boozer

And you're helping me make my point about how the Bulls are a ways away if Deng actually is the 2nd best player on the team.

Pretty fantastic regular season.

The Lakers got damn lucky to hold that 2 seed...though they'll probably lose to Sacramento and screw it up. They certainly don't want to be facing Portland or Denver without Bynum in the first round. They're probably not going to have him for the 2nd round either (so if I'm SA, I bust my ass to win that game and draw them before Bynum comes back).

Losing Bynum is a pretty critical blow, but its one they should be used to by now.

Deng is a good player, he most assuredly is not a great player. I don't consider him to be more valuable than Boozer by any stretch.

And Boozer could very easily be considered the 4th best player on the Lakers. Kobe and Gasol are clearly better the question is Bynum. Bynum, when healthy, is a little better IMO. And the 'when healthy' caveat is fair since Boozer's never healthy himself.

Hell, you can argue that Odom is a better player than Boozer. Odom's capable of taking over games when his head is in it. Odom's problem is that he's nowhere near as competitive as Boozer and he's a floater. I'd take Boozer over Odom, but there were trade offers of the sort a couple years ago and the Lakers turned the Jazz down.

So you could make an argument that Boozer's the 3rd best player in LA, but you can also pretty easily make the argument that he's the 5th best player out there.

The Bulls are where they are because TT is a fantastic coach and they play a great 'team' game. They've essentially stolen the Celtics identity and done so with players that could put together a 5 yr run with them all in the primes of their careers. It's a pretty nasty team to deal with.

Okay fine. Rank them how you want.

My main point was in response to King's statement that no team in the league could Boozer be the 4th best player.

Here's another

Rondo, Pierce, KG (even though he's getting old, he's much more dependable than Boozer right now)

I agree, and this coming from a person who wishes both the Knicks and Celtics could lose this series.

Pierce was riding Melo all the way to the corner, with his left hand on his chest. Melo shrugs him off to get the ball, and Pierce flops and gets the call. Awful. Unfortunately, tk is right. This is just one of many coming the next couple of months.

Let's be real here. The NBA has established they are going to call the last 2 minutes of a game far differently than they will the remainder of the game a long, long time ago.

Saying that consistent refs are the most important thing is a crock because they are never, ever consistent.

There was no consistency on the alley oop with the moving screens, nor when Billups got crushed when he got hurt.

Be happy about escaping with a win, but don't try to sit there and act like refs did not have a hand in it.

Memphis played a great game and they should enjoy this one but I doubt they can keep this up. They shot the lights out of the building today and I don't expect them to keep that up.

Tony Parker also played very poorly in the 1st half. If he plays a whole game like he did in the second half the Spurs pull away. Manu will be back next game too. Spurs in 6.

Teams are going to shoot "lights out" when they dominate the paint. Manu is not going to do anything to stop Gasol and Randolph. I'm not saying Pop won't make adjustments but don't think this win was a fluke. The Grizzlies dominated the Spurs inside.

They didn't dominate the paint until the 4th quarter. Aside from that, the Spurs played the paint reasonably well all game. Memphis was knocking down all of their kick outs too. That is what isn't going to continue. I'm fine with randolph and gasol getting 40 points together as long as we shut down everyone else.

Hyde5: Why Heat is favored to win the East now

The Heat will become favored to win the East now. And for all the reasons I said before the playoffs began that are becoming more obvious. While the Heat blew out Philadephia, Chicago struggled again in beating eighth-seed Indiana. Chicago showed for what's an Achilles' heel in the playoffs, too: It has one big-time scorer in Derrick Rose. Yes, Rose is fantastic. Yes, he again took the Bulls to victory in the end. But when the Heat can throw Dwyane Wade or LeBron James on him for 48 minutes and wear him down over the course of seven games, who does Chicago go to? The Bulls have some frontline advantages over the Heat. But the single biggest factor in that series will be the Heat's defense on Rose - and Chicago having no good second option. Unlike the regular season, the Heat has time to prepare for stopping Rose. In the first two games against Indiana, Rose has 39 and 36 points. He's also made 19 of 21 and 12 of 13 free throws. The Heat's team defense led by Wade and James won't allow him to dominate every game in a series in the manner Indiana can't stop. You know what? Orlando or even Atlanta won't let that happen in the next series, either.

After seeing how much energy Kobe is having to use to contain Paul, I really don't think the Lakers are capable of beating the Heat in a series (should it get that far).

They can match up with anyone else they're likely to face, but their perimeter defenders outside of Kobe are so bad that they essentially take Kobe off the floor as an offensive weapon in order to contain the opposing guard play.

They can't get away with that against Miami, too many weapons.

This is such a strange thing for me to digest and it's certainly the common refrain at this point.

But where the hell was all this when Allen Iverson was playing the same game and doing it with teammates that were even worse than Rose's? Larry Brown built a team around a tough defense, offensive rebounding and beating the hell out of anyone that made life difficult for AI.

And all AI got was untold amounts of shit for being a ball-hog.

I'm not really saying that what you said is inaccurate, I'm just wondering where the hell this argument was from the mainstream press when Iverson was playing the same game?

Folks aren't being unnecessarily kind to Rose, but they were damn unfair to Allen Iverson.

So how many cheap shots to the head are they going to allow Foster?

If that doesn't wake them up nothing will. Bastard.

Boozer getting abused by Hansbrough. Shocked I just typed that. Boozer has been a disappointment.

Can't tell from that angle but it's an a awful shot selection regardless. I do find it somewhat surprising that every game in the series has been very close to the end. You'd think the #1 seed could pull away from a team with a losing record.

The way the shot just went dramatically left I thought he might had but he didn't complain at all so my guess is no.

I have to give the Pacers a lot of credit they have played 3 very good games and all have come down to the wire.

They are the 2nd youngest team in the NBA, we will be back better next year.

I have seen team by age lists and Indiana was like 7 or 8. Minnesota, Memphis and OKC were the youngest. They are like 25 avg though so they are pretty damn young. Great effort in this series but I think they are out of has now.

We agree.

Since you guys are talking about age http://www.hoopism.com/minutes_by_Age/NBA_Average_Player_Age_by_Team_2010_2011.jpg

OKC the youngest and still this good. Damn, they will be in contention for many years to come.

If they can lock Westbrook up. He's the MVP of that team

Hell, they should have won the past 2 games if they didn't fuck up late in the games.
