I was at last-night's game. 6 homers yesterday in Arlington and I just HAD to be sitting in a section of the park where I couldn't see most of the center field wall and ALL of the right field wall. Of course, there were almost 46,000 fans there to tell me what happened.

Why isn't Kila back on the farm?

he's out of options.

We would have to waive him, and then no one would have to claim him, before he could go back to AAA.

It's why he's getting more of a chance than he might have last year, this is it. Kila either stays up, or he's probably out forever.

Hey alnorth, how does the umpire behind the plate rate tonight?

so far, not bad at all. Sometimes iffy on the edges, but not a lot of questionable calls.

edit: Figures, this is a minor league umpire who is temporarily filling in. Minor league umps are close monitored and released if they suck. This guy goes to a game every day scared of losing his job. He hasn't made it to the lifetime job security do whatever the hell you want level of a major league ump yet. So, I guess it shouldn't be surprising to see a solid strike zone.

It was the right move. He didn't get a good grip the first time, if he would have reached again there's no way he would have thrown him out, he would have just needlessly risked a 90-foot throwing or missed catch error.

They aren't going to get a lot of homeruns.

You steal to get a guy in position to score on a single.

It appears the Royals can win if they are hitting on all 8 cylinders, but if one fails, they aren't strong enough to pull it off. Think they are at the minimum 2 everyday players, 1 starting pitcher and 1 bullpen pitcher away from being contenders. Could be more than this, but at least this. Got to learn how to win when they aren't playing well in one aspect of the game. Broken hearts loom in the near future

Welp, this game sucked.

I need a break, I absolutely, guaranteed, will not start the game thread tomorrow. So, if you wanna start commenting on the game tomorrow or the next few days, dont wait for me, I might take a break for a while.

I'd agree with that. It's hard to remind oneself (me included) that this year had little to no expectations and a few of the starters really are nothing but placeholders for the guys expected to play their position before long, once they get off to a good start. I never expected much from this season, like everyone else, but it I am hopeful they'll at least play competitively each game. Hope the babys especially have success to go with the experience they're getting.

Not from me. This season was going to be interesting from the start. It's nice to see them winning and I hope it keeps up. But the good news is is that I don't see 100 losses from this team

Go back a few weeks in the repository thread. Don't get to unvolved into this year and enjoy it while it lasts. wait for June and July where we get to watch the kids come up

Oh I agree and I never get too uninvolved. I am defeinately enjoying being over .500... but I know we're playing a team that's way better than us right now... and even so we had a chance till the end even with Davies on the mound. I'll be watching and rooting as always. Just saying I don't expect us to stay over .500 a long time... which is "ok" but it still sucks. Looking forward to the future.

If Kila continues to drink from the dick sock and Hosmer continues to own AAA, I'm going to be surprised if we don't see the latter by the middle of May, especially if we're still "competing."

Braun played 34 games at AAA; Longoria played 38. With Hosmer, we're talking about a player who is supposed to be as talented as either of these players, if not potentially more so.

So let's not get this thing twisted.

So when Hosmer comes up do you think we keep Kila on the roster (I'm thinking we have a space open? I may be wrong) or waive him? He's out of options if I'm correct?

Current Kila? He'll be optioned to Omaha, and he'll clear waivers without a problem, since he's not worth a bag of baseballs at present.

Best case scenario: he starts raking for the next two weeks, we trade him for a A-ball, high-upside arm and go to Hosmer.

Either way, Kila's time with KC is effectively over.

OK thanks. While I'm a big fan of the game/team I'm honestly not real sure how the whole waiver process works. I was thinking "out of options" meant we couldn't even send him down. Thought it was more keep or cut bait.

Kind of. Team can't protect him, so he'd be DFA and would have to clear waivers, which he would. Then, assuming he's cool with it (which he almost certainly would be), he'd be placed back on the minor league roster.

It may be time to move Butler out of the cleanup spot. He's just not getting the job done with people on base. It's embarrassing that he only has 9 RBIs with Cabrera and Gordon hitting in front of him. He's hitting .282 with runners on and .438 with the bases empty.

No one had more RBI for the Royals than Butler last year, and he's already gotten 5 IBB in just a few weeks from pitching around him to get to Kila. If he had a good #5 behind him all year, he'd have more RBI.

Which helps to illustrate how useless the RBI is as a statistic. Well, that and the fact that Yuni was tied with Butler for the Royals RBI crown last year. I might be tempted to flip Butler and Frenchy because of Jeff's slightly higher power numbers, but this is the first year he's ever done anything and its early so I don't trust his numbers. As the best hitter, Gordon is rightfully at #3. So, Butler's hitting where he belongs.

If I were emperor of baseball, one of my first proclamations would be to decertify the Run Batted In as a useful statistic tracked by major league baseball. If other people or ESPN want to track RBI, fine, they can do that without MLB's help (under my reign) alongside other stats like batting average during day games on Sunday.
