Yes. I'm going to have them pay me my moneys. I don't have a very old roof, so I don't have alot of recoverable depreciation to worry about. May be able to use some of the excess on other home improvement and landscaping stuff that the insurance won't pay for.

Well, it can't be bad work, but I'm willing to give or take a little bit for an extremely cheap job. I'm hoping for more hail in the next 10-15 years ago. Hail is awesome.

Only thing I'll say to that is if you use a non-local roofer you'll have no recoruse when your roof staarts to leak and they are nowhere to be found.

Your roof is the most critical component on your house.

Pick any 2:

Speed
Quality
Price

Find him the same place you find your hookers, Craigslist.

Be aware depending on your insurance company, they may require direct payment or a licensed contractor.

So, you want cash from insurance to not pay to replace the roof? They're smarter than you. You'll get a small percentage of the damage in your pocket.

That's true. Would prefer if they are local guys, not fly by night ppl and go to the next storm. I have alot of casino cash to give away for good referrals :)

Mine doesn't, and I talked to my mortgage co., they don't really care about anything. Said I can just spend the mannies as long as they get receipts that I did the work.

Do you know how roofers pay for call-backs? They pay for it by making a profit. If they're not making a profit on your roof then you won't have any kind of warranty.

You can find a cheap roofer somewhere but you are virtually guaranteed problems and you are guaranteed they aren't going to come out and fix problems in the future.

You want extra stuff done around your house? Then talk to a reputable company. We're doing roof, gutters, and garage door on a house. We're making enough money that I'm able to do about $1k in work to the guy's deck as well.

You are smart to go local, reputable.

It hailed in PHX 6 months ago and the roads are still full of roofer trailers with Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, etc. license plates. They go door to door telling people they can get them top dollar for their insurance claims.

My fil is a general contractor, tells me they will all be out of town before monsoon season never to be found again.

My hail damaged roof was replaced by a very reputable roofer in '06. There was no pressure to do other repairs. They even waived my deductible because the insurance company's payment was satisfactory. I got a 40-year roof instead of a 30-year roof. They came out two months later on a concern about flashing and made it right. Five years later.... golden!

My company is medium notch and we do roofing on the side. I know how to roof but I'm getting old. I usually just go up for half a day during flashing, plumbing boots, vents, and skylights to make sure all those elements are correct. I wouldn't do Bwillay's roof though. He wants champagne on a beer budget. That doesn't happen very often. It's funny though. He's willing to give the insurance company back their recoverable depriciation when that's about all he'll save anyway.

Honest to god that happened to a friend of mine. Wasn't a roofer, but he hired a contractor to do some some landscaping work. Got back and his dog was gone. Had it in a kennell where the guy wouldn't ever have to go. Two years later he found out where the guy lived, saw he had his dog, stole his dog back lol.

Let teh fool get some moron to do it for half the rest of em want so he can have a beautifull walk way leading to his new sun deck hot tub enclosure, and about 3 years from now he'll be asking someone even cheaper to re-finish his living room ceiling from the leaks that went undetected for a year and half ....:spock:

when it comes to construction, and contractors, you get EXACTLY what you pay for, much like the builder who told me my quote was 5K over everyone else 2 months ago, but is happier than a pig in shit to pay me now that someone butchered the million dollar shack I just put 4 box's of mud on over FINISHED paint today, will put 3 more tomorow, then probably 2 more skimming it all out, just so I can COMPLEATLY re-paint this shack. There are quite literally impact marks in the shingles. Most roofing companies offer a free inspection in hopes they'll get your work. But they are usually meaningless. Your adjuster will go up on your roof and circle them. If you have enough in a 10x10 foot area you'll get a new roof. Your clue should be all your neighbors getting new roofs or half a dozen roofers stopping by your house during the day.

Well, I have a tree on my shed and several pieces of trimming that is missing. We had 15 minutes of golf ball size hail. I called the adjuster last week and he can't get here till he thought Friday. Also, not to derail the thread but we have so much rain the water is coming back up the drains or seeping through my basement walls. Any idea if they will cover that? I know my washer and dryer are going to end up rusting now and the basement floor paint is coming up from us mopping the water up. Should all that be covered?

you will likely not get the water damage covered without flood insurance.

Hal damage is easy to see.

You're not going to get paid for a flood claim caused by ground-water. If the water were coming through a hole in the roof or a window damaged during the storm you would have a claim to go along with your roof. If the water were caused by a busted pipe or a erratic child who left the bathtub to overflow that might be covered under another claim.
