Great move by Pioli.

Shrewd. eh, it's the lower half of the round and only a 6-spot move. Seems pretty decent.

Bad move KC. 3rd round in this draft isn't very strong. Could have had a starting NT or a guy like Bowers or Jordan. This all but guarantees someone like Watkins.

Bowers isn't a fit in this D, what are you gonna do with him?

So who are they looking at?

'Hamas' Jenkins
04-28-2011, 08:25 PM
Right, I get that. What you don't get is that you're WRONG. Or, more accurately, you're not *necessarily* right.

He was drafted to play tackle. We have a left tackle. There was no point to move him to LT and bump Light to RT.

Oh the irony.

[quote]If you thought Vollmer was your LT, you wouldn't take a guy whose only position is LT. It's that fucking simple.[quote]

You would if your LT is potentially leaving as a FA and your presumed future LT but present RT is a very good RT and moving him to LT, as you perhaps planned, leaves a gaping hole at RT which you will still need to cover.

WHAT YOU DO NOT SEEM TO FATHOM IS THAT IF YOU MOVE VOLLMER THEN WE HAVE NO FUCKING RIGHT TACKLE.

Another point that may make you potentially wrong is that the Pats may (not ARE, but may) be looking at their draft board and seeing that there are a ton of nearly-equivalent defensive players that they can have available at the 28 pick, but if they don't take Solder now, their tackle situation is going to get ugly quick in terms of the drop-off at the position. I have no idea if that's true. I don't pretend to read BB's mind as thoroughly as you pretend to read the mind of EVERY GM in the entire NFL....

:shake:

Which would be obviated by drafting Carimi or Castonzo, both of whom could play RT. Or with one of the two seconds that they have. There are plenty of RTs in this draft. It's not the hole that LT is, and comparing the two as though they are equal is one of the most ignorant things imaginable.

But hey, I'm sure that Jason Smith was drafted to play just "tackle" too.

Wow. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but this comment shows blatant ignorance of the Parcells/Belichick/Pioli drafting methodology.

NFU is a desingation for a player. "Not for Us". It means that a specific player is a potentially good NFL player, but not for our team because he doesn't fit OUR system.

I have no idea if Bowers is NFU for the Chiefs, but if you're saying he doesn't fit, then he does NOT get drafted by the Chiefs, PERIOD!

Bowers is big enough to play 3 technique, but his best fit is as a 4-3 RDE. It's not that he can't play the position, it's that in his best position, he may be the most dynamic defensive player in the draft.
