http://www.nfl.com/draft/2011/profiles/allen-bailey?id=2495116

Overview

Bailey could occupy a few different roles in a 4-3 defense. May find a home as a strong side end or at defensive tackle and certainly provides a coordinator the versatility to move him around. Uses his hands, power moves and good get off to pressure the passer. Very complete against the run. Holds his base very well, gets off blocks, fights through double teams and is a sure tackler when arriving at the ball-carrier. Shows sound awareness and positioning on the field. Relentless in pursuit either from the backside or down the field. Bailey's a probable first round pick.

2011 NFL Draft Profile: Allen Bailey

Category : 2011 NFL Draft Profiles (http://thenationalfootballreport.com/category/2011-nfl-draft-profiles/), Miami (C) (http://thenationalfootballreport.com/category/miami-c/)

http://www.thenationalfootballreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/allen-bailey1.jpg (http://www.thenationalfootballreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/allen-bailey1.jpg)Allen Bailey-DL-Miami: 6’3″ #278

Strengths-Is a well put together player. Flashes ability to command double teams if he can get off the snap quickly. Is best at playing the run. Shows good natural strength. Gives good effort and plays to the whistle. Shows good football awareness and knows his responsibilities. Has position versatility.
Weaknesses-Is not a quick twitch athlete. Teams will struggle to find a position for him. Does not show great hands or the ability to shed blocks well. At times can be blocked by TE. Does not break down well in space to finish the play. Lacks NFL array of pass rush moves.
NFR Draft Analysis-Bailey is a DE/DT tweener in the truest sense. We believe he has the ability to provide depth to a team looking for a versatile Defensive Lineman. Bailey could develop into a starter with a few years of coaching. Ultimately his value is somewhere in the late 3rd to early 4th round of the 2011 NFL draft.

Here's what nfl.com says about Bailey:

Bailey could occupy a few different roles in a 4-3 defense. May find a home as a strong side end or at defensive tackle and certainly provides a coordinator the versatility to move him around. Uses his hands, power moves and good get off to pressure the passer. Very complete against the run. Holds his base very well, gets off blocks, fights through double teams and is a sure tackler when arriving at the ball-carrier. Shows sound awareness and positioning on the field. Relentless in pursuit either from the backside or down the field. Bailey's a probable first round pick.

Allen Bailey Scouting Report
By Greg Cox

Strengths:
Athletic and strong
Long arms
Powerful bull rusher
Explosive
Disruptive - gets through gaps
Pursues well defending run
Great motor
Hard worker with upside
Position and scheme versatile

Weaknesses:
Trouble getting off blockers
Limited pass-rushing moves
Average snap reaction
Needs to improve technique
Raw prospect who needs coaching
Positional 'tweener
Possible durability issues

Summary: Allen Bailey might be stuck in no man's land when it comes to a true position at the NFL level. While position versatility is coveted, he has limitations in both spots. At end, he does not have the speed required to rush off the edge, and at tackle, he is not big enough. He is a tremendous athlete though and a former linebacker. Unfortunately he has underachieved.

A team might select Bailey on Day 2 believing they can coach up his athletic ability and really have something special in a couple of years.

Player Comparison: Robert Ayers. In terms of height, weight and speed, they were almost identical at their respective Combines. When Ayers went to the NFL he was considered versatile and has struggled to find the right position. Now he will hope to find his way as Denver switches schemes. This is a good example of how a great athlete can get lost at the next level even with clear ability, and Bailey might suffer a similar fate. The one major difference is that Ayers excelled at the Senior Bowl while Bailey struggled mightily, and will not be selected anywhere close to No. 18 overall as a result (as long as the Buccaneers take someone else at No. 20).

Pats take two RB's in a row and then Mallett, while completely ignoring theyre awful awful pass rush. Kind of a head scratcher to me.

Kevin Faulk: old, probably gone.
Sammy Morris: old, injury prone, probably gone.
Fred Taylor: old, probably gone.
Benjarvus Green-Ellis: overachieved, unheralded, hasn't signed his RFA.
Danny Woodhead: plucky, tiny, more of a pass-catcher.

They literally could've entered the season with, like, no running backs.

Yeah, they still need OLB help. Can't fill every hole in two days of drafting. They solidified OT (a need with Matt Light growing old and Logan Mankins wanting out). They got another corner to go opposite Devin McCourty. They added two running backs, and stole a talented QB who will either be Aaron Rodgers to Brady's Favre in four years or they'll trade him for value a la Cassell. Not a sexy draft, but probably a thorough one when all is said and done.
