Powe could easily be there in the late 4th. FWIW, the NFL Draft Tracker rates him a 3.1.

I was kidding, based on all of the rumors last year.

The one guy on our D-Line that commanded double teams and occupied blockers and might be the only guy who would do that in the middle if we don't get a NT.

I don't want to move him there, but he might be the best option on passing downs when we bring these pass rushers in on the edges.

And with the Redskins grabbing Hankerson and Santana Moss being a FA, let's grab him to play out of the slot. He would be a perfect slot receiver. I can't even imagine the matchup nightmares if we could somehow make that happen.

All kidding aside the primary reason I don't want Dorsey to play NT is because in the 34 you obviously need a mammoth guy to play that spot. I am talking minimum 360-375. With the 2 gap responsibility I think that Dorsey could handle it for a few plays but would eventually wear down. If we could get that monster inside then Dorsey could be freed up from those double teams and really excel while simultaneously freeing up the linebackers to dominate.

If he wanted BPA he could have traded with whoever Philly traded with just before us. Then he could have taken Powe later and an extra pick. This was not a BPA pick. This was an "I-made-a-booboo-picking-TyJax" pick.

The Ravens traded with the Iggles to get ahead of us b/c the Ravens were sure that we would be going OT. We may have been. We may have planned to pick Jah Reid before we got jumped and our guy was gone and we picked BPA. Who knows.

Also found this Scout.com blurb on Bailey:

Bailey had a chance to rocket up draft boards this week, but that likely didn't happen. That said, he did have a solid combine, posting a 40 time in the 4.7 range and finishing among the top five defensive linemen in the vertical jump, the latter of which indicates above-average explosiveness. While Bailey likely didn't do much to convince scouts that he could be a full-time 3-4 OLB, his across the board numbers still indicate the potential for an unusual type of diversity that a creative 3-4 defensive coordinator could use to his advantage.

I'm not wanting to move Dorsey inside.

But if we don't address NT, putting Dorsey inside on 4 or 5 pass plays might be a best case scenario to maximize fully our pass rush potential.

With Hali-Houston-Giberry-Bailey, with Dorsey commanding guard help for the center, that's gonna create a mismatch somewhere.

I absolutely agree with the bolded part even if we draft or sign a mammoth NT. The 2 gap NT is absolutely vital on running plays also to clog up the middle, demand double teams, and disrupt plays. On any given play if you only watched the front 3 you could almost tell with certainty if the defense won that play or not. Think back to last year in the instances we got penetration up the middle how much our D dominated.

Im somewhat frustrated at Pioli's lack of attention to the NT position. I consider it to be the primary position you start with on a 34 defense. I admit I am just a lifetime Chiefs fan with at best average football IQ, but it would be nice to see us attempt to address the NT position.

Either way great draft thus far.

TheJetsBlog on Kenrick Ellis:

Reports say that he is facing a felony charge with a trial already scheduled for July 12th. Kenrick allegedly broke another man’s nose and jaw during an altercation and the charge includes “malicious wounding,” according to reports. If found guilty he could face up to 20 years in prison.

E: Full report:

Kenrick Ellis knows the questions are coming.

A 6-foot-5, 346-pound defensive tackle who turned the heads of pro scouts during his senior season at Hampton University, Ellis has the size and speed to make some consider him a possible second-round selection in this week's NFL draft. He also has the eyebrow-raising past that leads teams to hire private detectives who call reporters in search of background information.

"I think it's necessary," Ellis said. "If you just read certain things on me, you'll probably think I'm a bad guy. If people ask me and they communicate with me, they'll (understand) what was going on my head at the time. I'm not a bad person. People make mistakes. And the thing about making mistakes is you learn from them, and I feel like I've learned from every mistake I've ever made in my life."

A series of mistakes led to Ellis' dismissal from South Carolina, where he redshirted in 2006, for violation of team rules. He distinguished himself on the field in three seasons at HU, but an altercation a year ago on HU's campus led to a malicious wounding charge and has him facing a felony charge, a July 12 jury trial and as many as 20 years in prison.

"The one incident he had this past year - I think anybody in that circumstance would have done that," Hampton football coach Donovan Rose said. "Someone kind of approached him over a young lady. Besides that, since he's been at Hampton, he's a kid that's been a yes sir, no sir guy. … He has been – I'm not going to say a model guy, but he's been accountable."

Ellis said his lawyers instructed him not to talk about the case. Calls to the Hampton University Police Department seeking information about the incident were not returned, and neither the prosecutor in the case nor Ellis' defense attorney returned messages. Two online reports say Ellis broke a man's nose and jaw.

Guys, If Romeo isnt sold...Im not sold.

There is simply no better person in the league to be making that type of educated decision and they obviously know the importance of the position relative to the teams run defense success.

They arent gonna draft one just to draft one.

When they like one, he will be selected/signed/traded for.

They are seemingly drafting guys that are possible ten year starters just about everywhere...

It's a deep draft for NT. Draftable players still available besides Powe include; Ian Williams (Notre Dame), Chris Neild (W. Virginia), Sealver Siliga (Utah), and Anthony Gray (S. Miss).
I think Neild and Gray should be best value as a sixth round pick.

Gray is my favorite. At 5' 11" and 330#s, he epitomizes the term "fire plug". He's strong (39 BP reps) and movers his 330#s pretty good (5.15 sec. 40, 4.63 sec short shuttle, and 31.5" vert. jump). I think he would step right in and be a 2 down run stuffer.

Probably Kris Jenkins. He is a HUGE John Fox fan. It doesn't matter if we draft a DT now because he won't be starting for us anyway. Maybe we can draft Powe in the 5th so I can watch GoChiefs rip him after he has been on his nuts for the past 12-15 hours. LMAO

Brown's a physical corner with good size and speed who could find a home as a reserve on a team that plays a lot of bump and run. Uses his length and strength to prevent the free release, can turn and run, but does not possess the hips to prevent separation or the elite recovery speed once beaten off the line. Overall awareness in coverage is not adequate at this time. Ball skills are average. With further development, could be very productive in run support. Brown has enough physical measurables, good intangibles and a short-term memory needed for the league. Currently carries a late-round grade.

Strengths
Brown is a big corner with good speed, comfortable in press man, jamming and re-routing at the line, and turning and running. Hard-nosed player who is willing in run support and will fight for the jump ball. Makes the routine interception. Received multiple accolades while at Colorado for his work ethic.

Weaknesses
Lacks instincts in off-man coverage and zone coverage. Does not have adequate anticipation skills to jump routes. A tick slow sniffing out screens and draws. Slows down in-and-out of breaks while mirroring underneath and intermediate routes. Lacks elite make-up speed. Pursuit angles in run support need to be more consistent.

Grade 4.3

A three-year starter and a team captain for the Buffaloes --- Named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in both 2009 and 2010 --- Cousin, Kenny Brown, played football at UTEP in the early 1990's --- Underwent shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum after the '08 season --- Best fit might come in a scheme that features a lot of press coverage --- Not quite as big or fast as teammate Jimmy Smith but is arguably a better cover guy --- Constantly picked on as opponents tried to avoid Smith but held up well --- Could compete for a starting job at the next level but will at the very least be a quality backup and contribute on special teams --- Underrated prospect with a nice blend of physical tools and top-notch intangibles who may wind up outperforming his draft status.
