Stanzi can play great....and then the next series will make you want to beat him with sock full of wet shit.

5th rounder, went a lot later than expected, better than your backup, could potentially replace your starter if he shits his pants.... what's not to like about that pick? Shit, IMO it's better than the QB the Vikes took in the first round, LOL.

Goddammit.

Why the fuck do we love Average QB's?

Welcome to KC, Matt Cassel Jr.

I know very little about this dude other than what draft pundits have been saying, but if he is physically a Matt Cassel clone, there could be worse things. IMO it's not Cassel's physical tools holding them back. It's his mental game. If Stanzi is physically like Cassel and has a little poise in the pocket, his ceiling could be significantly higher than Cassel.

His deep ball is usually a wobble launcher with the accuracy of Cassel. I've been comparing Stanzi to Cassel for 2yrs here.

The difference is, Stanzi HAS started a lot of games, so he has that experience over him, and he HAS made several game winning, last drive/play throws ftw....so sometimes, he's great under pressure. other times, he completely looks like a deer in the headlights and will make throws that make mentally challenged people call him names.

A ittle blurb from the pro day coverage:

Suaesi Tuimaunei and Gabe Miller jumped out at the scouts with their numbers. They may have earned late-round draft placement.

Miller benched 225 pounds 33 times, the most of any OSU player, and ran a 4.6. He came in at 250 pounds. The scouts talked with him about dropping weight and bulking up, and he felt he could do either.

After running, the players did position drills. Miller worked out at tight end, linebacker and defensive end. His versatility was of interest.

"I feel good about my numbers, and the scouts liked them to," Miller said. "I can gain weight to get stronger and drop weight to get faster."

I don't get the pick, but 5th round falls into the "whatever" category for me.

Listening to the ESPN staff talk about the wide recievers makes me wonder if any of them remember Todd Haley OCing in Arizona with Boldin, Fitzgerald and Breaston. I get the idea of wanting a complimentary guy like Titus Young, but you need to get your Fitzgerald to go with your Boldin before you get your Breaston.

While a little undersized at 250lbs, that's fine for a 3-4 OLB. His explosion number of 78.6 (bench+vert+broad) is at the top for his position, better then Miller (68.5), Houston (76.http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif, and Kerrigan (74.2), and from all the ones I can find is only behind JJ Watt. Also comparing him to current success stories he fares well too like Ware (75.7) and Orakpo (75).

Looking at his background, he's gone through a lot. He tore his right achilles, twice. That was in high school and his freshman year, but has had no problems since. He came to Oregon State as a TE, but was moved to DE in 2009 (at his request). This shows me that he's got the work ethic to continue to work and turn his incredible athletic ability into performance on the field. In 2009 he had 5 TFL and 3 sacks. In 2010 he had 6 sacks (TFL numbers not reported). He also was a team captain with Stephen Paea in 2010, and is a graduate and Academic All American.

He's currently projected as a late round pick. This would be a solid guy to go after in the late 5th or 6th. I think he fits our need for improved depth and a rotational pass rusher at OLB, but also can be a very versatile player like Vrabel playing in goal line, or contributing on ST's.

This is a 'Big, Fast, Strong' pick.

It's the late rounds, taking a guy like this makes sense, I think. You're not expecting polished starter material here. But he's a big, fast, strong guy and you'll find a spot for him if he works hard.

He could go inside. He could play outside. Banking on Sheffield is probably not smart. At the very least, he's going to be a good special teamer.

This is how I feel. If it wasn't for the glaring need at NT I would be totally along for the ride here. That being said. If Pioli/Crennel couldn't find their NT in this draft and still address it in FA, I'll get over it. If the plan is to convert Dorsey, I'm gonna need to be seriously convinced.

http://www.patriotsdaily.com/tag/gabe-miller/

We mentioned Miller in our pro day standouts piece in March and think he’s worth another take. The 6-3, 250-pound pass rusher ran a 4.62 40 and timed at 6.97 seconds in the 3-cone drill. Considering he switched from tight end to defensive end his junior year, Miller’s got an upside like a mountain.
