Watch Pioli take Powe in the 6th...like a bauce.

I think the dream (and your thread) is dead, dude.

People need to calm down...It is the 5th + rounds. Probably looking for projects and SP guys at this point of it.

I love how people think the 5th round is a throwaway round. There's a lot of really good talent left out there.

OK.... but it's not like there aren't guys here who are going to be starters. There are rookie UDFAs that start every year. I can understand the anger from guys that think Miller has no chance to start (or at least compete for a starting spot) as opposed to a guy who can make more immediate impact.

Dilfer just compared Ponder to Elvis Grbac. Threw Grbac completely under the bus.

ROFL That is the stupidest comparison I have ever heard. Grbac's problem was directly below his scalp. Ponder, by all accounts has a very good head on his shoulder.

Odd pick to say the least, especially considering some of the talent on the board.

Brown, and Stanzi, both have talent, and Stanzi could be a solid backup for the next decade. Miller seems to be a reach, but you never know what's truly going on behind the scenes, and what the true word on GM street is. He seems to have turned in some nasty workouts from what I've been able to dig up(which isn't much)
Seems like a hard working physical monster though. Hell, who knows, he could turn out to be a find (doubtful, but who knows) I'm sure Pioli thought that someone else would snag him, or he wouldn't have pulled the trigger. He's no dummy, no matter what anyone thinks of the pick. This draft has been a huge success regardless if you ask me. I think this was SPs attempt at out smarting everyone else, and could live with the risk of potentially outsmarting himself. We'll see. If this dude, can contribute, I would be surprised, but then again, I don't act as if I know more about these guys than our Don.
This team was greatly improved today. That is without question.

http://www.patriotsdaily.com/tag/gabe-miller/

Gabe Miller, Oregon State DE/OLB: We mentioned Miller in our pro day standouts piece in March and think he’s worth another take. The 6-3, 250-pound pass rusher ran a 4.62 40 and timed at 6.97 seconds in the 3-cone drill. Considering he switched from tight end to defensive end his junior year, Miller’s got an upside like a mountain.

I see some of you bashing on Stanzi. I'm a huge Hawkeye fan and I remember last year a lot MORE people bashing on the Moeaki pick. I said it last year with Tony and I'll say it this year with Ricky, it's a great pick. You give Ricky a couple of years to learn and develop and he can certainly start for us. Fifth round pick is GREAT. Give him time. He's a hell of a lot better than Croyle and given time to adjust to the speed of the NFL, may end up being better than Cassell. LOVE the pick.

I'm not saying he's an All-Pro or anything, but he's really a pretty good QB. Look at his career record at Iowa. The guy just goes out and wins. The program turned around when he took over and it wasn't a co-incedence. When faced with what we have, he's definitely better than Croyle and could end up being better than Cassell. Look at his improvement from his junior year to his senior year. It was incredcible. I just hope he keeps improving.

Dude was a money selection. I took him early in the fifth in the CP mock. He's gonna be a really good safety valve for years, and he's a decent size for a slot WR. I see him as a better Jordan Shipley.

Which is great and all, but Smith is from Youngstown, Ohio. He'd be just as likely to go to Cincy or Pitt.

Besides, if Smith is returning kicks for us, it makes that McCluster selection one of the worst in recent memory.

'ight.

Now I feel a bit better about the Rams draft. I still don't have any fucking clue why they drafted two WRs in the 4th and 5th.

If I were them, I would have drafted Hankerson and Salas.

Then Bradford could go to battle with Avery, Alexander, Hankerson, and Salas.

You'd have a deep threat, a RZ threat, a slot guy, and Hankerson, who is probably a number 2, but could end up being a fringe #1 WR.

That's not my point.

The Rams have two huge holes right now(OLB and G).

I'd be happy if they used one of those picks on one of those positions.

But that pretty much means they've given up on Gilyard....

Rams would have had a decent WR corps without one of the WRs....

Rams weren't high on Hankerson, that's what the beat writer for the PD wrote multiple times. I don't have any problem with them passing on him.

I do, however, have a problem with them drafting two WRs when they really only needed one considering Avery and Clayton are coming back. They need an OLB still. Knowing the Rams, they'll probably draft one in the 7th and he'll fight for time with 3 other 7th Round LBers(Vobora, Hull, Chamberlain).

Still need a backup RB.

He's played through a bunch of injuries though, he gets dinged up constantly.

Looked it up from Rotoworld

Avery has dealt with concussions, thigh strains, shoulder subluxations, rib bruises, hamstring strains, hip injuries, and now this knee problem in his short two-year career.

He’s been lucky enough not to miss too much actual game time with the other ailments, but this knee injury looks much more worrisome.

Yup, just commented on that in another thread. Reaching for need is not how you build a winner.

Also goes to show that not many truly know what GMs think of these players, and that goes for the Miller pick as well. For all we know he could have been rated as a 5th rounder to the people who matter.

I haven't watched him play but i've read positive stuff on him from a lot of different places.

NFL.com overview

Powe could become an effective run-stopping, two-gap defensive tackle or possibly a 3-4 nose tackle due to his tremendous size and lower body strength. Usually requires a double team in the running game. Does more than just eat space, he can penetrate and also make some plays outside the box. Can push the pocket with his bull rush but needs to polish up his technique and moves. Like many other bid-bodied DT's, needs to watch his conditioning level. Gets plays off and becomes less dominant against the run later in games. Powe could entice a team to select him as high as the second round.

LMAO

Sorry Path.

Perfect

LMAO

No worries. At least they addressed the position.

Hope I'm wrong, but Mayock just mentioned the same concerns I've expressed.

Though he didn't bother to mention the dude's gonna sign his rookie contract with a "X."

NFL Network guys seem to like our draft a lot more than the ESPN guys.

McShay and Kiper seem to rate solely on whether the picks match their board, not rather they fit the teams.

Pioli has already mailed him the graveyard scene from Driving Miss Daisy.
