NFL Network guys seem to like our draft a lot more than the ESPN guys.

McShay and Kiper seem to rate solely on whether the picks match their board, not rather they fit the teams.

Heard on ESPN radio coming home this afternoon the guy who runs NFLdraftbible.com. Asked him whose draft he liked the most, he said Houston first, then Chiefs.

Holy shit, how was Jerrell Powe still around? People were talking about him as a Day 2 player at one point. If the Chiefs can get him to play up to his ability, he's a starting NT. Granted, he may or may not be illiterate, but they're not drafting him to play librarian. Nice pick.

Usually requires a double team in the running game. Does more than just eat space, he can penetrate and also make some plays outside the box. Can push the pocket with his bull rush but needs to polish up his technique and moves. Like many other bid-bodied DT's, needs to watch his conditioning level. Has Scott Pioli found his Vince Wilfork? Maybe. Jerrell Powe is a great value pick at the bottom of the sixth round. He was once considered a Round 2 prospect, but was slated for the fourth or fifth round by most. (Pick Grade: A)

The amazing thing in this draft is that Pioli kind of changed his strategy from last year. Last year we drafted team captains with zero character issues.

This year, though, we drafted two guys with questionable characters, a semi retard and a QB in the 5th round.

Pioli is flexible. Perhaps he trusts that Haley will set any guy with character issue straight.

Here's a tidbit from an Ole Miss fan site.

Jerrell Powe has been a myth in Rebel circles for three years. His legend has taken on fantastically large, Paul Bunyan-esque proportions. If the legends be indeed true, he once ate a live bear because he thought it was Casey Dick and even scared Kobayashi away from a hushpuppies eating contest. I've also heard that his stat line against Memphis will be 16 tackles, 13 sacks, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 124 rushing yards, 6/6 for 300 yards passing, 8 touchdowns, and three injury causing tackles. To many of us, all of our wildest hopes and aspirations for this young man are finally beginning to take form.

Shane Bannon/FB-TE/Yale: His offensive statistics won't impress anyone as Bannon never carried the ball as a senior and accumulated just 13 receptions. His blocking skills, however, are another story. Bannon is built like a tank, measuring 6-1, 268 and plays to that size. He's lined up at fullback and tight end with one simple mission -- annihilate opponents, which he does with regularity. Bannon is getting serious consideration from the Ravens and Giants to perform these skills at the next level.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Yale-fullback-Shane-Bannon-is-a-sleeper.html

Yale fullback Shane Bannon flew well under the radar as a lead blocker in the Ivy League.

However, the 6-foot-1, 270-pounder made an impression at his Pro Day with a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash.

"The kid is a stud," Joe Linta, Bannon's agent, told the National Football Post. "I had never heard of the kid before a coach at Yale told me about him. He's a good lucking kid, catches every pass, light feet and he's blowing up people on the film. He's got some position flexibility, too. He can play fullback or be an in-line tight end."

Bannon registered a 9-3 broad jump, a 29-inch vertical leap, a 4.2 in the 20-yard shuttle, a 7.1 in the three-cone drill and a 12.1 in the 60-yard shuttle.

Last season, Bannon caught a career-high 13 passes for 122 yards and won the Jim Keppel Award as the Yale Offensive Back of the Year.

He played football, track and hockey in high school.

Cool story in the WSJ about him.

Apparently the top-2,000 prospect lists that NFL scouts put together earlier this year didn't even have Shane Bannon on it, and he had no chance to get drafted. He knew this, so with the help of his coach, he busted his ass to force someone, anyone to notice him and give him a workout, tried to put together a highlight video showing he could be more than a blocking FB. Now he's a 7th-round pick for the chiefs.

Whether it happens or not, Bannon's NFL candidacy is something of a minor miracle. Until about six weeks ago, almost no one outside of the Ivy League—not even the most obsessive NFL draftniks—had ever heard of him.

Over the past month, thanks to a freakishly intense training program, and a little old-fashioned marketing, Bannon's fortunes have changed. At least eight NFL teams have worked him out.

...

More than 2,000 draft-eligible prospects are listed on the two major scouting reports that most NFL teams use as a foundation to guide them through the process. Taking into account that a mere 224 players will be drafted his weekend, these lists might seem excessive.

Nevertheless, Bannon, a bruising athlete at 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds, played his senior season at Yale without being listed on either one. He didn't participate in the NFL Combine. He wasn't invited to any senior all-star games.

In fact, CBSSports.com updated a list of 84 fullback prospects last week and Bannon still was nowhere to be found. (He finally made an appearance this week at No. 18.)

Guy from Yale can't spell. Apparently, even Yale caters to the athletes...
