Disclaimer: I know you need at least 3 years to properly evaluate a draft class.

Chief fans consider the 2009 draft sub par at best and most consider it an unmitigated disaster.

Most Chief fans love the 2010 draft...so far.

Most Chief fans love the 2011 draft...so far.

So what the hell happened in the 2009 draft war room?

No theory.

Pioli didn't have scouts he trusted, so he had only the info he accumulated and could remember from the Patriots staff tp work with.

Not a good way to go into the draft.

But there are still a lot of questions about last year's draft.

Peterson's scouting department. There's some question as to whether Pioli used them or completely ignored them, but either way, I would think that's the difference. Because if he used them, they weren't his guys (as you could see by the number of them gone after the draft...), and if he didn't, then he was drafting without the proper support network.

(That draft just wasn't very good, either, in a general sense.)

Its just one of those things.

It was a horrible draft then and still is now. But providing he can keep hitting on picks, he can make it up. lets just hope McMidget works out. And that Cassel's suckness can me properly masked..

Not really. Here on the CP we said alot of players on draft day that turned out to be good players. All bc Pioli sucked didn't have to make the whole draft horrible.

I think Herm / Carl squad of crack goons knew they were toast and half assed it and or turned in bad scouting reports. Some scout who's unemployed now and flipping burgers still laughs every time he hears TJax name.

After thinking about this draft I was trying to be positive about the whole thing. Then just looking at the picks I just thought. There's a somewhat under achieving DE, a frustrating starting QB along w/ an aging LB leader type. A DE that was traded away. A Mizzou OL that was cut, A DB depth pick, a rb that was cut, A TE that's only here because of a major injury to another TE, And a kicker, decent now, but a kicker.

Yeah...that draft was kind of meh!

That always happens but we wouldn't have blown our first two round picks.

Herm wasn't Running the draft

Considering all of the talent we got in 2008, I don't think the scouts were that bad.

His draft scouts were still there.

This part is important

Pioli thought his shit didn't stink because he came from New England, did a piss poor job of evaluating players and trusting others, and failed as a result. He seems to have learned from that failure WRT the draft.

I'm not buying that theory. Either he can evaluate players or he can't. He didn't learn that in one year.

It might be because Pioli didn't have his own scouts in place? So he was using the leftovers from Carl/Herm who were scouting for a completely different system and different players?

NO. Pioli sucked and now he's good.

Till next year, maybe.

it seems easier to make the right picks later in the draft. the players that should have been drafted stand out more and that is what he became used to in New England
