"Buff" rarely gets used outside of informal slang for people who like the subject of history. What's up with that? You don't really hear "sports-buff" or "coin-buff" or "fishing-buff" or "dancing-buff". But for some reason, it's been fastened to the Civil War or WWII or history in general.
