Tonight I become a fan of 2 new teams. I've never seen any SDSU Aztecs play in the NBA, but 2 are supposed to be drafted tonight, including Kawhi Leonard, who is a projected Lottery pick.

I hadn't seen any SDSU games until I went to Tucson for the NCAA Tourney. Leonard was an amazing athlete & it didn't take long for me to turn into a big fan of his.

The team as a whole was full of athletes, but frustrating to watch.

Am I the only one who thinks Derrick Williams will be a lot better than Irving when we look back at this draft?

You are not the only one. If I was the Cavs I would be going Williams #1 and the second best PG at #4. Irving has only played 3 games since his ligament injury and there will be no NBA summer league this year. Give me Williams.

Michael Cage, greatest SDSU hoopster of all time. My buddy moved to Iowa from LaJolla in high school so we'd sit up late and watch SDSU football and hoops games.
I think Cage might have just been finishing up in 99 or 2000. One year he grabbed 30-something rebounds in the final game of the NBA season to beat out Oakley for the rebound title.
Dude was a beast.

Really, the Suns should have traded to Nash for #2 and taken Williams. All the talk down here was "oh, you can't do that to Nash, he has done some much for the organization, etc."

There is no loyalty in sports and they will not contend this year and they will not get as good of a deal as getting Williams if they move Nash at the deadline.

Had to look it up, my memory isn't what is used to be...

Michael Jerome Cage (born January 28, 1962 in West Memphis, Arkansas) is a retired American NBA basketball player.

A 6'9" power forward/center from San Diego State, he is the Aztec's all-time rebounding leader and second leading scorer as of 2011.[1] Cage was the 14th pick of the 1984 NBA Draft. He played 15 NBA seasons (1984–2000) with five teams: the Los Angeles Clippers, the Seattle SuperSonics, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the New Jersey Nets.

One highlight of his career was in 1988 when, as a member of the Clippers, he led the league in rebounding with 13.0 per game. He was on a personal duel with Charles Oakley, who was playing with the Chicago Bulls at the time. Cage needed to register 28 rebounds in his final game to beat out Oakley for the rebounding title. He ended up grabbing 30.

During his career, Cage earned the nicknames "John Shaft" and "Windexman" (as in "cleaning the glass") for his rebounding prowess and hard work on defense.

Agreed. I thought Minnesota was incredibly dumb to even think about that deal, despite their glaring need for a PG. Nash would be a great "last piece of the puzzle" on a contending team (see: Jason Kidd), but him in Minnesota would be painful for all involved (except the Suns).

I was hoping the dude from Moorehead State would fall to the Thunder bit the Thuggets got him. I know nothing about Reggie Jackson except the name alone pisses me off being a Royals fan. I hope they think he can play SG because we have too many PGs. I trust Presti with the exception of his past big man reaches. I can't blame him for trying though :)

I like Morris (Michigan version) to the Lakers.

The other 3 picks confuse me a bit, especially when they could've grabbed Selby even after the Morris pick. Playing behind Kobe might've helped him get his shit in order.

Oh well; Lakers are probably boned this season anyway.

I'm not sure why people are surprised by this. Kief seems to be tougher and a better rebounder. Certainly Marcus was the better scorer, but Markief made huge strides in that area this year, IMO. There were some mock drafts that showed Kief being drafted before his brother. I didn't think it was going to happen, but it didn't surprise me when it did happen.

our style of football (obviously, soccer=football. there's also rugby, which is slightly similar and you also have aussie rules football) hasn't really taken foot (heh) anywhere else in the world. there's the cfl, but we really don't import much talent from canada.

basketball, on the other hand, is like soccer in that it can be played anywhere for a rather cheap rate (ball, flat ground, makeshift hoop or two). not that it's a socioeconomic issue, but american football is expensive to play/set up. soccer and basketball aren't. soccer and basketball are wildly popular all around the world, thus you get more international players in the main leagues. hell, baseball is much more international than football is. when you get serious leagues in other countries like baseball has (central america, japanese league), football MAY become more international.

until then, guess we can hang our hat on a few kicker/punters from other countries.
