View Full Version : Int'l Issues Middle East (and why there are so many issues)

Just got out of a cab with a man from Lebanon... He is going home to Lebanon in a week... YET he didn't even know who the MARONITES were... he was a wonderfully nice and genuine guy but his own knowledge of his country was severely lacking. As a Muslim he felt that Lebanon was ALWAYS a Muslim country and that Syria was a great savior of his country vs Israel. I will agree that Israel need to stay the F out of Lebanon... but to think Syria has been an altruistic helper state is ignorant at best.

AND here is the crux of the issue... too many people overseas are JUST AS ignorant as most Americans are. We need to stop assuming that the Lebanese or Jordani or Israeli or whatever.. have a fucking clue... because tonight proved to me that most of them DON'T.

When a man in his 30s from Lebanon doesn't even know who the MAJORITY ethnic group in his county was up until the 60s... it's hard to take a nation seriously... and SADLY, Lebanon is one of the most educated countries in the region....

Just a little thing to think about... when you consider what these other countries are about and want... remember that most of their populous is BEYOND PISS IGNORANT...

Thanks to George Bush, Christianity is going the way of the dinosaur in Iraq. Thanks to Obuttocks, Christianity--- probably the first Christians, the Copts--- are dying on the vine in Egypt.

Islam is a cancer, and it's enablers are going straight to hell.

One person doesn't know about his country and that is the reason why there are so many problems in the middle east?

If you are saying that this one man is an accurate depiction of all muslims and that all muslims are dumb or retarded then - I agree.

That is what you're saying right?

Defenders of Islam call it a "religion of peace" but many Norwegian women are learning that Islam is the religion of rape. According to an amazing police report released there this month, every single solved case of assault-rape in the country in 2010 was carried out by a Muslim immigrant.

Ok, I think everyone missed the point of my drunken rant.

#1 it had NOTHING to do with him being Muslim... that was just the context for the discussion, he could be Buddhist for all I care

#2 Yes, it is an unfair generalization to say that every one of his fellow countrymen is as ignorant as him, but it was shocking how little he knew about his own country

I will quote the IMPORTANT point in my post...

I had always assumed that your average Jordani, Lebanese, Isreali may or may not know a lot about other countries or world politics or even their neighboring countries but AT LEAST they knew their own country... and again, I know it's unfair to judge based of this one person, but it was disturbing to think that EVEN one guy like him exists.

We get it. Most people in this world are ignorant. The problem is, the ignorant people from the middle east act out in violence, like blowing up busses, hijacking planes and flying them into buildings, chopping their daughters heads off because they were raped et al.

Well, those Scandinavians are pretty loose to start with. They're freer than Americans. Islamic men aren't used to that and can't deal with it. That's why they cover their women. They should stay in their own lands if this is the case. Then again they think most western women are sluts.

So you are not disputing the statistics?

The statistic could be interpreted as a warning for multiculturalism as easily as your "Muslims bad" approach. Or it could just be that those two groups are incompatible. Or it could be the Scandinavian cops are racist. Or Scandinavian women have sex with Muslim men and then file rape charges when the morning regret happens.

No I'm not. I don't really know on that basis. I was over there I know how they can be and we were told to dress conservatively. No spaghetti straps, shorts that are NOT too short. In fact short or long sleeves are recommended. You dress that way they will touch you and leer at you. In fact someone over there recommended that your guy when with his woman, wear a black tee-shirt with a skull and bones on it and/or carry a sword. :p

There's got to be a reason they have to cover up their women. Because the man can't be trusted. So they suspect other men in general.

Andrew Sullivan JUST had a post about how, in America we associate a British accent with higher intelligence than American diction. But for Americans who have spent an extended period of time IN Britain [ostensibly WITH the masses of actual British dullards there], the opposite holds true

... while the ignorant people here elect a big-spending, ill-prepared, far-left president who puts his own ideas about class struggle ahead of economic considerations when it comes to policy and simultaneously trust him with a filibuster-proof congress to solve the country's budget and economic problems.

I don't know any muslims other than Frankie and it would be unfair for me to draw many conclusions about the world's muslim population from that small sample size. :p

I think it's fair to say that there's a clash of civilizations taking place though, between the western liberalism (not to be confused with socialism) and reactionary islamists. They're incompatible ideologies and we shouldn't have to apologize for defending our way of life at home and supporting those who share our values in the Muslim world (just as we supported those who shared our values in the face of advancing communism during the cold war).

I don't hate religious people for being religious. Do what you've got to do. I *do* hate it when they try to force everyone else to live by their rules.

No, you're right. It never happens. It wasn't in the news today or anything.

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/06/24/2973898/kck-abortion-clinic-says-it-will.html
Pilate said the clinic hardly had a chance to comply with new temporary regulations because it received them from state regulators Monday.

“We were expected to comply in a nanosecond,” she said. “The timeline was absurdly unrealistic.”

The three Kansas abortion clinics have been racing to meet the licensing requirements spelled out in the new law, which was one of four new abortion restrictions passed by the Kansas Legislature this year.

The requirements have been met with skepticism by abortion-rights groups, given the prevailing mood against abortion in the Kansas Capitol.

“What we have isn’t a democratic government. We have a theocracy,” said Ronald Yeomans, a physician who practices at the Wyandotte County clinic.

“We have a theocracy with a bunch of extremist, right-wing Republicans who are trying to enact their religious views into law.”

Yeomans said some of the rules, including stipulating the size of rooms, were “ridiculous” and had nothing to do with ensuring patient safety.
