49ers emailed every NFL team to try and trade Taylor Mays (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/49ers-emailed-every-NFL-team-to-try-and-trade-Ta?urn=nfl-wp4598)

On the bright side, the San Francisco 49ers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/sfo/) didn't put Taylor Mays (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24024/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24024/news) on eBay. That's the only bright side.

Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers offered second-year player Taylor Mays to all other 31 NFL teams via a mass email (https://twitter.com/#%21/AdamSchefter/status/99200697609879552). The 2010 second-round pick was drafted out of USC and gained attention for blasting former Trojans coach Pete Carroll for passing him over in the draft.

One NFL team official told the ESPN reporter he had never heard of anything like that in the NFL. It's assumed that the 49ers hurt the trade market for the talented, yet raw, young safety because of their technological shortcut.

That's probably true. There are dozens of better ways to get out the word that Mays is on the trade block rather than going to the "NFL GM" tab in the address book. Call one team and the news will trickle down. Talk him up in a press conference and then leak that you're not happy with him. Heck, why not just call Schefter himself and have him post that tweet instead of the one about the email?

It may be a pain to call up all interested teams but that's the way it works. Have you ever tried to unload a player in fantasy and tried the "Hey everybody, this guy's on the trade block" tactic? Never works.

Did the 49ers list a "buy it now" price on Mays or are they hoping the bidding progresses properly from the opening bid of $0.01? What are the odds Dan Snyder responded, hit "reply all" instead of "reply" and offered Laron Landry (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8260/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8260/news), Brian Orakpo (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/9277/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/9277/news) and two first-round choices for Mays? How many of those emails bounced back because someone had recently changed their email address? And if nobody bites on the mass email, are they going to cut Mays and tell him via his SkyTel pager?

I'd trade a third.

Pioli might do this.

no way.

As I said over and over predraft, the kid is a much faster version of Bernard Pollard.

Great against the run, is one of the worst coverage safeties in the league.

Its a shame mecca got all that sand in his vagina and decided to GTFO when he did.

Shit blew up in his nonexistent face like a MFer.

"you cant blame me for having a life outside of Chiefs Planet"

says the guy with like 75,000 posts in like 4 1/2 years.

I remember when I thought it was sexy in March 2010 if the Chiefs drafted Berry in the 1st and then grabbed Mays in the 2nd.

Yeah, you'd think he'd atleast have four or five posts a week after all that.

And he'd get converted to LBer fast by Crennell.

somewhere a single tear rolls down Mecca's cheek as he pours one out for his fallen homey.

I remember watching him play while posting on here and breaking down a play showing how he had terrible instincts. The drafturbators have a bad habit of falling in love with physical freaks who can't play football.

There were several people who thought that.

I wouldnt even want him as a linebacker.

Teams would just target him there.

The kid simply cant cover anyone.

The ONLY difference between him and Pollard is that Mays has better straight line speed...which is on display every time he gets beat in coverage.

Which happens a lot.

Id give up a fifth or sixth, at best, and put him in the captains chair of our special teams units.

I would do the same for Pollard if he didnt piss off our coaching staff already.

if we drafted him, you KNOW they would be putting it ALL on the coaches.

I am far from a draft guru, but there is one thing that seems more important than anything else. Can he play football? That's it. If the answer is no, he isn't an elite prospect. Mays was a great athlete who played football, but he wasn't a football player. The dude had 1 Int and 1 FF in his entire 4 years as a starter at USC. Anyone who didn't see this coming deserves what they get.

Or how much we were all salivating over Cody last year too...still mays as a rush LB might be interesting.

Mecca's too busy being curled up in the fetal position using his USC banner as a klenex to wipe away the tear-filled snot bubbles to post on this.
IIRC, this isn't the 1st time this has happened to him.
If there are shots fired in Pete Carrols general direction, we'll know who's responsible.

But wait. Remember? Pollard exclaimed he was gonna prove the Chiefs organization dead wrong and they would rue the ****ing day they got rid of him. LMAO

I was one off Pollards biggest supporters here, Im not gonna dodge that one and chose to own it, but even I pointed out how bad he was in coverage.

If I could choose he or Mays to sign, Id probably choose Pollard because he is, at minimum, a great special teams player.

I think thats why Baltimore signed him.
