View Full Version : Movies and TV Great titles wasted on bad movies.

I have two to start with:

Half Past Dead - It should have been a classic, Hitchcockian movie title. Instead it's wasted on just another forgettable Steven Seagal B movie.

Malice in Wonderland - Four movies bear this title, the most known of which is a 1985 TV-movie. 'nuff said.

Can you think of more?

I watch films in order to learn about the human condition, in order to be told stories, in order to be entertained. I fucking love movies.

Looking past how morally disturbing Boondock Saints is, it is haphazardly directed, shallow, cartoonish, a preposterous stylistic melange in desperate need of any semblance of original artistry from anyone at any point in the production. If it weren't so self-serious then I could laugh at it like I do a lot of shitty 80's action movies with similarly Neoconservative approaches to ideas like justice, due process, etc. But Boondock Saints is so full of itself that the laughter never comes.

Boondock Saints is by far the most overrated movie of all time. Terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible. The writing is piss-poor, the acting is awful, the whole thing is cliched, derivative, and brainless. About the best thing you can say is that it's "stylish." That's not enough to base a movie on.

And somehow, it's this massively popular cult smash hit. I watched it on a friend's recommendation when it first came out. I was expecting it to be good. Oh, dear god was I mistaken.

Malice in Wonderland is very clever and snappy. The one I'm talking about was about two real life rival Hollywood tabloid reporters cutting each other down. The title was great IMO and matched the premise. The soap operaish premise, though, never interested me.

Have you seen the documentary on the douche bag writer/director Troy Duffy? I think it is called Overnight. What a piece of shit he is. The movie is less than great for sure, but I will give it credit for knowing what an American audience likes to watch and latch onto. Once you watch the documentary on Duffy, you will have wished the movie tanked and was forgotten forever.

edit: Movie title thingy

Big Trouble in Little China... though I will admit I have seen it more than once, and possibly enjoyed it.

Movies are meant for enjoyment. Certain movies are meant to be brainless fun. I sure as hell don't watch Transformers for any artistic value and I am not looking for it to change my life.

I go see it to watch cars turn into robots and see shit blow up.

I enjoy watching artistic, well made movies just as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to knock a movie for being exactly what it intended to be. Where's the fun in that.
